AIMS OF THE 2nd INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

The 2nd International Conference has the purpose to consolidate future activities of the

Global Network of Water Museums (WAMU-NET). It includes the presentation and

discussion of common strategic projects, the mechanisms for internal coordination, and the

establishment of three internal working groups (Research, Education, SDGs). Also the

presentation of new water museums which have shown interest to participate and become

partners of the Network is foreseen. The Agenda of the 2nd Conference includes:

1. Plenary sessions and round tables to discuss how specific projects and proposals

related to Education, Research and SDGs may be adopted by the Network;

2. Presentations of new water museums (at this stage max. 25 new museums will be

selected through their applications and able to join the Network; additional

museums/centers will be invited at a later stage);

3. Inauguration of the new web site of the Global Network of Water Museums

(curated by Civiltà dell’Acqua and Ca’ Foscari Venice University);

4. Nomination of three working groups on Education, Research and SDGs aimed to

strengthen skills, management and communication capacities of the Network;

5. Exchange of experience / interdisciplinary group concerning major challenges in

implementing SDG n.6 (Water and Sanitation);

6. Internal meetings on coordination aspects and admission criteria to the Network

(including future relations with and strategic support to / from IHP and IHP

National Committees);

7. Discussions on future common projects, including art exhibitions, aimed at

promoting the Network’s visibility and more sustainable water uses.

The 2nd Conference of WAMU-NET is held in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, and is

supported by the International Hydrological Programme of UNESCO. The Conference is

organized by Civiltà dell’Acqua International Centre (Venice), Ca’ Foscari University of

Venice (Italy), Kring Vrienden van ‘s-Hertogenbosch, and the Netherlands National IHP-

HWRP Committee.

Following the 1st International Conference of WAMU-NET (Venice, May 2017), and the

endorsement of UNESCO-IHP Bureau (55th Session, June 2017), also the topic of a

Resolution to be approved by the next Intergovernmental Council Session of IHP (June 2018)

will be discussed. The related strategy aimed at involving additional IHP National

Commissions will be shared with all participants to create new opportunities for all.
