“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are cre- ated equal." Sound familiar? This famous quote was said by Martin Luther King Jr. in 1964 as a call for peace at one of history’s most remembered addresses. Over 50 years later, we must still take time to cel- ebrate the individuals who stood for something more than themselves, and Manhattan is a great place to pay tribute to the voice Martin Luther King Jr. gave to many. There are many ways to celebrate in the Manhattan community. Participate in the Manhattan Public Library’s Art and Writing Contest. Details found on www.mhklibrary.org. On Saturday, January 17, from 6:00-7:30 PM the Art & Writing Contest winners will be recognized at Flint Hills Christian School during the MLK JR Day Celebration. There will also be a candlelight vigil. Other events you can attend are Sunday Supper on January 18 from 4:30-6:30 PM at Christian Fellowship Church or Prayer Breakfast at 8:00 AM on January 19 at the Four Points by Sheraton.
