Akshardham• Location: Gandhinagar

• Swaminarayan Akshardham is one of the largest Hindu temples in Gujarat.

• Built by Pramukh Swami Maharaj.

• The complex was built over 13 years and is a tribute to Swaminarayan and his life and teachings.

• Consists of a number of things under one roof like art, education, architecture, exhibitions and research.

Champaner• Champaner is a historic town and it is located in Panchmahal

district, 47 kilometer from Vadodara.

• Champaner is famous for “The Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park”, listed by UNESCO as “World Heritage Site”.

• There are eleven different types of buildings at Champaner-Pavagadh, including mosques, temples, granaries, tombs, wells, walls, and terraces.

• The monuments are situated at the foot of and around the Pavagadh hill.

• The Heritage Trust of Baroda lists 114 monuments in the area, of which only 39 monuments are maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India, due to limited funding.

Patan• An ancient fortified town, was founded in 745 AD by Vanraj

Chavda, the most prominent king of the Chavda Kingdom.

• The stepwell called the Rani ki vav (Queen’s step well) was constructed. It is a richly-sculptured monument, built by Udaymati in memory of her husband, Bhimdev I (1022-1063).

• It was one of the largest and the most sumptuous structures of its type in the world.

• There is a small gate below the last step of the step well which has a 30 km tunnel (now it has been blocked by stones and mud) which leads to the town of Sidhpur near Patan. It was used as an escape gateway for king who built the step well in the times of defeat.Tuesday, May 2, 2023

Somnath• Located in Prabhas Patan near Veraval in Saurashtra on the

western coast of Gujarat.

• The Shiva Temple at Somnath, holds a naturally occurred Jyotirlingam.

• Somnath is first among the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva.

• Somnath railway station is also considered the attraction for tourists, because of its unique temple-based design, as this station ends the railway tracks.

The Great Rann of Kutch

• The Great Rann of Kutch is a seasonal salt marsh located in the Thar Desert in the Kutch District of Gujarat, India and the Sindh province of Pakistan.

• It is about 7,505.22 square kilometres (2,897.78 sq mi) in size and is reputed to be the largest salt desert in the world.

• The name "Rann" comes from the Hindi word ran (रण) meaning "desert".

• The Government of Gujarat hosts an annual 3 month long festival called the Rann Utsav (festival of the Rann), where tourists can see the various sights of the Rann as well as get a taste of the local culture, cuisine and hospitality.
