“One of the most useful tools in the turf managers bag”

Page 5: TourBest Product Catalogue 2014

Greens Liquids have been developed over many years primarily as a Foliar Feed and have been found to be one of the most useful tools in the Turf Managers bag. A Key Benefit of a true foliar feed is that the nutrients are absorbed through the leaf of the plant bypassing the root system, a particularly valuable attribute in high stress conditions or where the Root Zone requires remediation for optimum plant health. Generally Foliar Feeding maximises the uptake of nutrients by the plant whilst minimising the environmental impact of leaching into the soil.

The TOUR BEST mixes have been used and proven over a number of years, particularly where tight control of nutrients is appropriate, and across a wide range of Grass Species. The ability to mix the liquids with each other, a 50/50 mix of 2-7-14+SW and 12-0-12+SW has been shown to be very useful

for overseeding, and with the inclusion of secondary and trace elements, it allows a tailored Liquid to be prepared for specific use.

All Greens Liquids are manufactured to include a comprehensive additive package which includes seaweed extract, essential amino acids, humic and fulvic acids and are Sulphur Free. Application rates can vary from “Spoon Feeding” 20 Litres/Ha as a Foliar to 100 Litres/Ha as a Dual Foliar/Soil application.

Flexibility is the key in reducing the number of “Bulk” products required by the Turf Manager and the ability of these products to be individually tailored to suit particular circumstances by the inclusion of secondary and trace elements is an invaluable asset for the production of world class playing surfaces.

TOUR BEST Multi-Purpose Liquids, although less sophisticated than the Greens mixes, maintain many of the attributes which have made the liquid Fertiliser Range so successful.

The Multi-Purpose range includes a “Scorch Free” High Nitrogen Fertiliser which comprises 3 differing sources of Nitrogen, Urea/Ammonia/Nitrate, which provide a phased release and can be applied at low rates.

All the Multi-Purpose Range Fertilisers can be enhanced by the addition of single elements to the mix, and the inclusion of Seaweed Extract, which provides the Turf Manager total flexibility in the selection of an economic “Wall to Wall” application which fits the specific requirements of the sward.

The economic benefit of using a Sulphur Free “Tailored Liquid”, applied either through a Fertigation

System or as a Spray, is well known and appreciated by Professional Turf Managers.

The specific analysis shown in the Tour Best Range have been proven to be effective for both Cold and Warm season Grasses and can be applied at rates from 20 L/Ha to 100 L/Ha with complete confidence.

Tank Mixing with additional elements at source to provide a specific analysis for immediate use at the venue has removed a significant burden from the Turf Manager by ensuring availability of the correct mix at all times. In many cases however the straight analysis of the Bulk Liquid is ideal for use.

Generally the Multi-Purpose range is supplied in 1000 Litre IBC although smaller containers can be arranged to facilitate ease of handling by the end user. This may incur an additional cost.

The range of Greens Foliars has been developed specifically to assist in the remediation of deficiencies within the plants. A key benefit of a true foliar feed is that the nutrients are absorbed through the leaf of the plant bypassing the root system, a particularly valuable attribute in high stress conditions or where the root zone requires remediation for optimum plant health.

The specific analysis of the Greens Foliars address the most common problems identified mainly by Leaf Tissue Testing or by the physical appearance of the leaf. With the exception of CalSea-Mn the Greens Foliars are specific primary and secondary elements which are shown as the most commonly deficient ibyleaf analysis.

Foliar P, with its high level of P2O

5, will not only

quickly eradicate deficiencies but has been proven to be an exceptional aid in establishing new or re-laid turf. It is also of primary assistance in root development. Care must be taken however to ensure that no excesses build up as P is possibly the slowest element to disperse and when in excess can prohibit the uptake of a wide range of elements.

Foliar Mn, Mg, K will all rectify deficiencies in the plant whilst providing visible improvement in appearance. Foliar Mn provides other benefit as it greatly assists in the fight against fungal disease. Manganese is almost always deficient in sandy root zones and as a consequence deficient in the plant.

CalSea-Mn was developed to provide a readily available source of Calcium, clean Organic matter in the form of Seaweed Extract and Manganese. This Foliar formulation has proven to be of exceptional assistance in the preparation of top quality playing surfaces.

VARIETYThe selection of foliar products represents our understanding of individual needs in a variety of climatic conditions. To ensure complete control of what you are applying to the most valuable asset you manage, understanding the importance of foliar applications is where you can gain a competitive advantage.

ENVIRONMENTALOur range of products suit all turf varieties and if the source of your irrigation water is anything other than perfect, then we have the solution you are looking for. Give the plant what is needed where it is needed every time by applying foliars that are quickly and efficiently absorbed whislt limiting losses to the environment in the form of leachate or runoff.

CONVENIENCEEnsuring you have the ability to put down exactly what is required is at the forefront of our product range. Single trace options allow you to add to any mix giving you viable, versatile and cost effective solutions every time.

The Straight Liquid Range was developed to provide a unique flexibility in the approach to fertilisation and Nutrient Management.

Often the Turf Manager has had to compromise on an ideal selection of nutrients due to commercial unavailability of a precise Analysis. Often manufacturers provide enormous ranges of Fertilisers with very small incremental changes in Nutrient but somehow still conspire to miss what is ideal for a specific venue or location.

The use of Bulk base liquids and Straight Liquid Nutrients allows the Turf Manager to precisely match his requirement with a fit for purpose fertiliser. Perhaps as important, is that he can do so economically without building large stocks of what may ultimately become redundant product.

The Straight range can be mixed with Greens Liquids, Multi Purpose Liquids, Greens Foliars or indeed used on their own as a single nutrient Fertiliser.

This unparalleled flexibility is a key to the continuous improvement of playing surfaces and at the same time a continuous improvement in budgetary control.

TOUR BEST can offer a service of pre-mixing Straight Liquids with our Liquid range to allow delivery of a Mix ready for immediate use or to supply Individual Straight Fertilisers with a Calculation Sheet which allows the Turf Manager to mix on site a precise formula for his individual needs.

We would strongly advise mixing any TOUR BEST liquid with any other liquid not of our manufacture is jar tested to ensure compatibility.

“CalFlush demonstrates a unique ability to provide a clean root zone”

Page 13: TourBest Product Catalogue 2014

13

An essential part of any programme is to bring the root zone into balance with regard to Nutrient content and Base Saturation levels.

Of particular concern in many areas is Soil pH, but soil pH will reach acceptable levels if base saturation ratios come into balance. The relationship of individual nutrient excess or deficiency will dictate the availability to the plant but the interrelationship between nutrients can lead to imbalances which will block the uptake of essential elements. Most often this is an excess of one or more elements.

In this case a most important soil amendment is concerned with the ability to “Flush” excesses from the Root Zone. TOUR BEST has had particular success in this regard with CalFlush. This is a Proprietary product based around Calcium Chloride

but with the addition of specific “Wetting Agents” which has, with a programmed use, demonstrated a unique ability to provide a clean root zone. For a Priority Flushing Application CalFlush in combination with Humic-X and Magnum 44 can give a fast and effective treatment.

TOUR BEST adopts a very minimalist approach to Soil Amendment exhibiting a preference to control the root zone by tightly controlling the application of nutrient. However it is clearly understood that the application of essential Amino Acids will greatly improve the soil profile as will regular applications of Humic Acid.

TOUR BEST can provide other treatments to assist in the remediation of particular problems and will be pleased to advise on solutions as needs be.

The use of wetting agents on turf surfaces has increased over the years as more research has led to a greater understanding of dry patch. Waxy residues from the breakdown of plant tissue, bicarbonate deposits from fertilisers and irrigation water coat the soil particles which block up pores.

This leads to localised dry spot areas which can induce turf wilt and eventually death of the grass sward.

With this research in mind , Tour Best have selected a range of products to suit the most common problems found on the golf course.

Penetrant and Curative wetting agents are designed to be applied to an existing hydrophobic condition and severely affected areas are often spot treated in order to quickly resolve a problem. These product open up the soil profile and allow excessive water to drain away.

This leads to increased oxygen supply to the root and subsequent improvements in plant health. It also results in the more efficient use of fertilisers and irrigation water.

These penetrant and curative products are available as liquids for overall spraying, pellets for spottreatment or in granular form.

Where risk factors are high, by far the best approach is using a programme of Preventative wetting agents. They are applied at the start of the growing season as an overall spray and repeated throughout the year as part of a planned programme. These preventative applications not only aiding water penetration but, once present in the root zone, also help to balance and hold sufficient moisture in these potentially hydrophobic areas. These are the most sophisticated wetting agents normally based on Reverse Block co-polymers and they are formulated as liquids for application as an overall spray to the turf surface.

“TOUR BEST Greens Granules include StandardRelease and Slow Release products”

Page 17: TourBest Product Catalogue 2014

17

TOUR BEST Greens Granules are selected from a compound fertiliser range which includes StandardRelease and Slow Release Granules. All Greens Grade Granules are within the SGN 100-150 Range and have longevity from 3 to 12 weeks. They are homogeneous granules, every nutrient is contained within each particle ensuring that even spread and colouration of the green is guaranteed.

Impact Advance is nitrate based giving a rapid and intense green up. The particle size is ideal for both greens, outfield and sports fields were presentation is important. At lower rates on cool season grasses the high potassium content make it suitable for autumn, turf hardening, applications.

Impact Start primary nitrogen source is ammonium and this, combined with lower levels of nitrate-N, make it suitable for early season use where soil temperatures are relatively low and the balanced nitrogen sources are more available to the plant roots than those products containing Urea.

The SRF range of Methylene Urea Fertilisers have some immediately available urea and ammonium nitrogen ( 25-30%), the balance (70-75%) is from Methylene Urea. They contain a mixture of “Chain Lengths” which provide different nitrogen release times. Ammonium and urea releases first, Mono-methylene Urea second, Methylene Di-urea third and finally Poly-methylene Urea. In this way the plant always has the required nitrogen input throughout the 8 to 12 week period.

The Calcium in Compass Granular has a Seaweed base, the Seaweed being derived from Ascophyllum Nodosum and is rich in essential trace elements.

All our fertilisers incorporate a number of environmental factors, helping them to promote sustainable turf. They been designed to work throughout the year, in a wide range of climates and on the whole range of grass species.

“Tank Buffers are a cost effective water treatment additive”

Page 21: TourBest Product Catalogue 2014

21

Many golf courses are forced to use sources of water which are either of high pH (over 7.0) or are ‘hard’, containing significant levels of Calcium, Magnesium or Bicarbonate ions. In such conditions, some expensive agrochemicals and fertilisers are prone to rapid hydrolysis and precipitation resulting in poor performance due to loss of active ingredients particularly when multi-product tank mixing is required.

Pesticides can quickly degrade and this is measured by the time taken for 50% of the active to be broken down. It is called the ‘half-life’ Tank Buffers are a cost effective water treatment additive.

Our offering, Optik Tank Cleaner contains: 1. Complexed acidifiers to reduce pH and bicarbonates 2. A long chain polymer based water softener 3. A sequestering agent to isolate Cationic contaminants

Typically, for water at a stating pH of 7.8, the addition of 100 ml per 1000 ltrs of irrigation water will reduce the pH to approximately pH 5.5. The amount of Optik Tank Buffer required will depend on a number of factors including the starting pH, the hardness of the water and the desired finishing pH.

For best results, a water analysis should be carried out before application.
