HELLO, I AM IN VÍTKOV
SOME BASIC FACTS ABOUT VÍTKOV
Vítkov town lies in the diverse terrain of Vítkov highlands, a part of the Nízký Jeseník Mountains. The
average altitude is 480 m and the highest peak is Horka hill (603 m) located upon Klokočov village (circa
2 km far from Vítkov). Remarkable surrounding landscape is dramatically divided by two rather deep
valleys of the rivers Moravice and Odra. In Vítkov surroundings, there are several tourist routes. The most
favourite route leads on both sides of the Moravice River, from Kružberk reservoir through Jánské Koupele
and Podhradí to Hradec nad Moravicí. Regarding tourism, Vítkov area is very attractive. In relation to
unique landscape values and rare flora and fauna species (not yet completely explored), Vítkov area is
a subject to a scientific interest.
SOME BASIC FACTS ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
Modern history of our school started on 1. 7. 2013, when a new school (according to the decision of our
town hall) arose. Three former schools (two basic schools and one grammar school) were joined together as
one big entity. Our school has nine grades of basic school and eight grades of grammar school. There are
usually two or three parallel classes at primary school level and usually one class at grammar school. Our
school has about 650 pupils and 100 employees (teachers, assistants of teachers, remedial teacher, educators,
economists, IT specialist, cooks, school caretakers and cleaning ladies). We also educate pupils with special
needs (mentally ill, with autism etc.), assistants of teachers help them to manage the lessons without
difficulties. Parts of our school are also the after-school childcare, the after-school club and the school
canteen. Our school has two buildings. In the main building there are pupils of the second and the third level
educated, in the second building there are pupils of the first level educated.
OUR SCHOOL YEARThere are many activities made for (with) our pupils and their parents (grandparents) or people from our
town. It is impossible to list all of them so I picked only those which are the biggest or the most important
(popular) ones.
School year in our country usually starts on the 1st September. On this day, pupils meet at 8 o’clock with
their class teachers in their classrooms. There are no regular lessons on this day, pupils only get the basic
information about the following school year and receive their time tables. They usually finish at 9 o’clock
and they follow going to the after-school centre (1st to 4th grade), the after-school club (5th to 9th grade) or
home.
