With this letter, I am pleased to recommend Toscane Luckett to any college program she wishes to pursue.

I was honored to have Toscane as my Assistant Stage Manager on Theatre Vertigo’s production of The American Pilot that I stage managed.

From the time Toscane joined the team a week before load-in, she was committed to the production even in the midst of succeeding at upper level high school classes and stage managing the award winning performance of Ablaze! at the state level. She used the opportunity to learn all the she could and even copied forms that I used. In addition, Toscane diligently read the rehearsal reports and was punctual even when the call times varied. The few times that she experienced unexpected delays, she called me with her estimated arrival time.

I am happy to write that her attention to detail, sense of timing, and problem solving abilities greatly added the production. On her second day in the role, she quickly learned my method of line notes and executed them beautifully. Once we began rehearsing on the stage, she was in charge of the props list. From organizing the table to tracking weapons and monitoring consumables to verifying that the actors had all their personal props, Toscane was wonderfully reliable. Also, during the intensely choreographed climax full of explosive sounds, flickering lights, and entrances, Toscane perfectly dropped a set piece from the grid every performance. Finally, I completely trusted that Toscane would notice things backstage and bring them to my attention with potential solutions on issues ranging from washing dishes, supply shortages, light malfunctions, and pulley concerns.

Overall, I fully believe that Toscane will succeed at whatever she puts her mind to. Her level of professionalism while still a junior in high school was remarkable. Moreover, she interacted beautifully with a professional cast and crew. Joking with us while also holding us accountable when necessary.

It is my great pleasure to be writing today in order to recommend Ms. Toscane Luckett for a variety of backstage or management roles in theatre. I have known her for nearly four years as her theatre arts teacher and director. During this time I have had occasions beyond count to witness her in a variety of leadership, academic, and theatrical roles, and can unconditionally recommend her as an exceptional candidate for this opportunity.

From a leadership standpoint Ms. Luckett excels, particularly from an example-oriented point of view. Within her technical theatre classes as well as the extracurricular program she has been a consistent, dedicated participant always seeking to improve her work and those working with her. With her attention to detail and willingness to take risks she consistently proves a model for her fellow students. In addition, her sense of organization is without equal...a truly rare trait in a young person. While not a take-charge sort of leader, her competency at whatever task is at hand, her level demeanor, sense of order, and work ethic combine to make her a vital component in any team environment. This combination of traits has earned her the universal respect and admiration of her peers.

Academically, she has consistently maintained an 'A' average in my course, an exemplary grade point average overall, and keeps a rigorous and diverse course load, even through this point in her senior year when many of her peers are beginning to retreat from that academic rigor. I see no reason to believe that this focus on self-development will waver upon her completion of our high school program.

Where Ms. Luckett truly excels, though, is in the theatrical arena. As a constant member of Wilson High School's after school theatre productions, she has displayed a strong interest in technical theatre and stage management, along with a dedication and discipline uncommon in high school artists. Typically this manifests with acting students in leading roles and principal characters; with Ms. Luckett this has taken quite a different shape. Frequently assigned the most challenging of backstage roles, the stage manager, her ability to coordinate the varying needs of a large scale production with knowledge and expertise, while maintaining a cool and professional demeanor has already earned her internships and other next-level opportunities in the Portland theatre community. Whether on a large cast piece or small, technically intricate or simple, classic work or shepherding a new work from the workshop to performance, she is thoroughly experienced and truly sought after for what she brings to the table. To round out that experience she has served ably on primarily lighting and sound assignments, both on the installation and operation of those two necessary and complex systems on our shows. She has consistently proven herself responsible, attentive, and accountable for her actions, within the program and without.

When considering young men and women for opportunities in the post-secondary world, it is common to wonder whether the professional risk, as well as the investment of time and money in their training, is going to mature as it is intended to. I can unreservedly assure you such an investment in Ms. Luckett's academic or artistic career will bear the intended fruit. 2. On another note, dressing rooms will be set up tomorrow. The girls dressing room will be downstairs, in the room below the stairs, while the boys dressing room will be upstairs, in the area next to the landing. Please remember to knock before entering either dressing room.
