Toronto Public School Newsletter Quality and excellence… Learning together 10/09/2019 Dear parents and carers, One of the jobs I really enjoy as a Principal is showing new families around our school. It is such a rewarding experience to walk through the school and see calm, settled classrooms where great teaching and learning is taking place. There is a beautiful energy in our rooms; the children are happy and engaged. They love to say hello and welcome new people. This is so special and heart- warming. I am very proud of our students, teachers and support staff. TPS is a beautiful school and a wonderful place to be. I am also very excited to share great news in regard to our staffing. Three of our long term temporary staff now have permanent positions at TPS. Francine Nilson has been a temporary teacher at TPS for the last 8 years. Francine is a fantastic teacher and contributes so much to our whole school success through strong engagement with our community, supporting staff, leading our Aboriginal Education team, taking our primary choir and just being a lovely person to be around. We are delighted with her appointment. Louise Fernance (Nance) has been with TPS since 2014; supporting our children and teachers in classrooms. Louise is much loved and has a wonderful presence in our school. This year Louise has worked with our ED class and this appointment has been made permanent. Mrs Gayler and the boys are particularly excited. Leah Richens has also received a permanent position. Leah has also worked at TPS since 2014 and for four of these years has supported our children in our MC class. Leah has now been appointed to this position permanently but has promised to also continue in her role as our resident art teacher! This is another well-deserved and much celebrated appointment. Congratulations and thank you to these wonderful women. I will be a way from school for the last two weeks of this term and the first three weeks of next term. Rachael Robinson will be Relieving Principal in my absence. I am sure that Rachael will be supported by our wonderful team. Dear parents and carers,

One of the jobs I really enjoy as a Principal is showing new families around our school. It is such a rewarding experience to walk through the school and see calm, settled classrooms where great teaching and learning is taking place. There is a beautiful energy in our rooms; the children are happy and engaged. They love to say hello and welcome new people. This is so special and heart-warming.

Congratulations and thank you to these wonderful women.

I will be a way from school for the last two weeks of this term and the first three weeks of next term. Rachael Robinson will be Relieving Principal in my absence. I am sure that Rachael will be supported by our wonderful team.

P&C News A massive thankyou to all our dedicated volunteers who helped the children purchase and wrap their Father’s Day presents. The children all really enjoyed picking their gifts for the special men in their lives. On Thursday the 26th of September we will be holding our term 3 meal deal. Homemade Nachos, a drink and popcorn will be available for $7.50. Order forms will be sent home with all children this week. With spring in the air and all children required to wear hats at play time we have stocked up on TPS hats. Our uniform shop is open on Monday, Thursday and Friday from 8.30am. Our canteen is still in desperate need of volunteers. If you can spare a couple of hours on either a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday morning please call in see Roma in the canteen. Without volunteers our canteen runs risk of having to close. Our next P&C meeting will be held on Wednesday the 11th of September from 9.15 am in the cottage. All welcome.

Success is about waking up everyday

and being excited about the day ahead.

Farmer Relief Day

The drought continues and the farmers and their families are still doing it tough. Last year we had an amazing response to our farmer relief day. This year we will be collecting for the pets in the Farming Families. They, too suffer from the effects of the drought. So on Thursday 26th Sept we are having an

“OUT OF UNIFORM / DRESS LIKE A FARMER DAY”

Instead of a gold coin donation we are asking

for donations of non-perishable/ tinned pet food or water. Farmers and their families have a wide variety of pets including the hard working dogs, cats, birds and goats.

Helen Sibthorpe in association with the Country Women’s Association will be taking a trailer filled with our donations to Gilgandra in the holidays to distribute our donation

In sport, 1T have been working on their relaxation techniques and improving concentration through guided meditation. The hall is so peaceful when the headphones are being used!

I like it when we get to learn how to do yoga -Jayden

My favourite part is where we listen to relaxing stories through the headphones -Sarah

Nate- It was so much fun using sticks and playdoh to make different 2D shapes.

Keira- We sorted 2D shapes by the amount of sides and corners each shape has.

Bailee- Did you know a square and a rectangle both have 4 sides and corners but a rectangle has a 2 short sides and 2 long sides.

Lost Property!

We have a number of students who have lost jackets, beanies and hats. Please check your children’s clothing to make sure you have the correct items. Also please ensure your child (children’s) names are written in their clothing. Many thanks.

3E's Maths lessons are always fun and challenging. Over the last two weeks the students have been exploring mass, volume and capacity. This has been very hands on and the students have engaged in real world problems.

Connor - I liked when we got to measure the capacity of our drink bottles and working with partners.

Kobi - The scales for weighing things were fun to use.

Maddelyn - It's fun to measure capacity. I liked filling up the lunch bucket.

K-6C have had a busy few weeks...

Our Year 5 students have been exploring Place Value and playing games with 4-digit numbers. It's been fun to challenge Ms Wilson to see who can make the highest number by rolling a dice and choosing which column the number should go in.

In art with Ms Leah, we've been creating Aboriginal prairie dog sculptures using wool to wrap around the dogs we made.

Last week, we decided to change things up a bit, and we cooked toasted ham and cheese croissants - so yum!!
