Unique in the market, TORMAX iMotion automatic door operators utilise an in-house designed and manufactured asynchronous motor. Unlike DC powered operators, TORMAX over-engineered motors do not require gears and brushes to ensure smooth door opening and closing. Without the working parts that regularly need replacing, iMotion operators can deliver almost indefinite life expectancy.

The iMotion range of automatic door operators is the result of extensive research and development at the Headquarters in Switzerland and is one of the most advanced systems on the market today.

However, TORMAX has always designed AC motors and their longevity has been proven over the last 50 years. Although requiring a slightly greater initial capital investment, a TORMAX operator is more cost-effective and sustainable in the long-term, delivering reliable operation often as much as 15-20 years after installation.

Being both gearless and brushless, TORMAX synchronous motors have virtually no working parts to fail, making them a sustainable solution as well as providing near-silent operation. Incomparable movement dynamics within the motors ensures energy efficiency by minimising heat loss from the building thanks to split second response to approaching foot traffic. Fully compliant with RoHS standards the operators are tested well in excess of current industry requirements of one million cycles.

Further enhancing the sustainability of TORMAX motors, all iMotion operators are uniform in design, whether it is a swing, sliding or revolving entrance. This means that if requirements for the entrance change over time, iMotion is far from redundant but can quickly and easily be adapted to meet new circumstances. All systems are also equipped with the same control system and user interfaces, significantly simplifying maintenance and operation of all doors.TORMAX iMotion

TORMAX Entrance For London Office Redevelopment

Creating a notable entrance to the high specification office refurbishment at 80 Hammersmith Road, TORMAX installed a contemporary single swing door powered by a concealed iMotion 1401 operator alongside an impressive three wing, manual revolving door.

A sustainable solution, this combination requires almost insignificant operating energy yet significantly reduces heat loss from the prestigious new reception area, even at busy times of the day.

TORMAX worked with main contractor John Paul Construction and architects Barr Gazetas with Tuffin Ferraby Taylor acting as Project Managers to maximise the use of natural light and create a welcoming yet professional entrance. All TORMAX iMotion motors deliver significantly longer life expectancy than other automatic operators on the market today.

Cutting-edge technology combined with a high torque synchronous motor delivers reliable, ongoing operation without any of

the parts that generally require replacement, such as gears and brushes. Given this minimal maintenance requirement, it is practicable for the iMotion 1401 operator to be concealed in the floor to create an invisibly driven automatic swing door.

Sophisticated sensors within iMotion motors combine with a ground-breaking control system utilising LIN bus technology to deliver entrances that maximise efficient operation by automatically adapting to external factors, such as a build up of dirt

or a change in the prevailing wind. Site specific requirements are made via a user-friendly keypad, allowing door opening speed and hold open times to be adjusted as necessary.

Crittall-Style Solution For SchoolWith many buildings dating back to the 1930’s, Merchant Taylors’ School needed to upgrade nearly twenty external entrances without altering the period facades. TORMAX was contracted to replace the steel Crittall doors with specialist aluminium profile carefully designed to replicate the art deco style. Providing free flowing foot traffic, the swing doors are all fitted with technologically advanced, TORMAX 1301 iMotion automatic operators.

Being a grade two listed building, a conservation officer was consulted before work began to ensure important architectural details were maintained. TORMAX has demonstrated expertise on previous projects, recreating Crittall-style doors to suit heritage locations. The original steel doors at the school have been replaced with double-glazed units with highly effective aluminium profile. Following direction of the conservation officer, TORMAX took great care to accurately reproduce the astragals by adhering replacements directly onto the glazing.

Complying with current DDA regulations, TORMAX iMotion 1301 door operators are one of the most advanced automatic openers on the market today. The unobtrusive, compact case houses a wear-free synchronous motor which delivers exceptional reliability and longevity.

Energy-efficient operation minimises running costs, whilst heating bills are cut thanks to doors no longer being left open unnecessarily. An intelligent micro-processor ensures permanent monitoring of door leaf movements to maximise performance whilst the simple control panel allows door settings to be adapted to match user requirements.

Verulam Point, an impressive commercial office building in central St Albans, has undergone a major refurbishment and now benefits from a technologically advanced iMotion automatic sliding entrance system from TORMAX UK Ltd.

A sustainable option, the iMotion 2301 high torque door drives are precision engineered to ensure low energy operation whilst heat loss from the building is significantly reduced thanks to a combination of rapid reaction sensors and powerful opening and closing speeds. In addition, the operators are manufactured using 95% re-cyclable materials.

A landmark building adjacent to St Albans train station, Verulam Point was built in 1991 and in 2010 Gaybank Construction Ltd was contracted to undertake a high specification renovation to the reception area and

second floor office space. The new TORMAX entrance slides smoothly open to welcome corporate employees and visitors into a five-story glazed reception atrium, offering easy access to 53,000 sq ft of prime office space.

Since the launch in 2009, TORMAX iMotion operators have set the standard for door automation in the UK. In addition to being environmentally sound, the door drives are recognised for their reliability and durability thanks to technologically advanced synchronous motors which have no abrading parts to wear out, delivering near-indefinite life expectancy. A unique modular construction allows easy expansion of an entrance system without making existing operators redundant, giving design flexibility in the long term.

Revolving GatewayReflecting the ethos of Kent County Councils’ new Ashford Gateway building, the four wing revolving entrance system from TORMAX is combined with an iMotion automatic swing side door, providing easy and efficient access for all potential visitors to the vast array of public and voluntary services housed at this town centre location.

With such a wide variety of visitors, main contractors Morgan Sindall had to give careful consideration to the matter of accessibility.

Driven by the powerful TORMAX 5201 Universal operator, the aesthetically impressive revolving door offers low

maintenance operation combined with a high level of functionality. Minimising heat loss from the building whilst maintaining the internal ambient temperature, a self-explanatory menu on the service computer allows door speed to accurately reflect external weather conditions as well as changing levels of foot traffic.

Suitable for a whole range of different locations including retail outlets, restaurants and office buildings, the TORMAX 5201 revolving door system is often used when space is limited as it has a particularly narrow header profile, requiring just 140mm installation depth.

Easy Access For Visually ImpairedShortlisted for a prestigious RIBA award, the Scottish War Blinded charity welcomes the visually impaired into their new day centre with two sets of TORMAX automatic swing doors powered by iMotion 1401 operators concealed within the floor. Designed for longevity, the high-torque synchronous 1401 motor has no abrading parts that can wear out, ensuring on-going reliability for many years to come.

Inspired by the image of a Chinese celestial dragon the clean, contemporary curves of the £3m Linburn Centre development successfully accommodates the particular needs of its users whilst delivering an architecturally exciting building that is free of any institutional connotations. Contracted by WH Brown Construction, TORMAX advised the iMotion1401 as one of the most advanced door operators available on the market today, perfectly matching the client’s brief that the building should be environmentally friendly with an emphasis on simplicity for the internal space.

A low-energy operator, the iMotion 1401 operator is straightforward to install and quick to commission being compatible with a standard 240v electrical supply, which also makes for safer operation. Engineered for efficiency, both the power of the motor and spring can be adjusted to suit user-specific requirements, delivering optimum performance regardless of wind loading or pressure differences. A user-friendly keypad allows safe operation to be set for the swing doors at the Linburn Centre, depending on pedestrian speed and the volume of foot traffic.

A sustainable access solution, all TORMAX iMotion operators are manufactured almost entirely from recyclable materials. Further reducing carbon footprint, an efficient automatic
