They should be measurable and specific.
They must be attainable and feasible.
They should be able to be accomplished in
the specific time frame. Each objective must be clearly phrased.
The operational words should be “tocompare, to describe, to identify” avoid
words such as “to study”. It should clearly show the people involved
in the study, where it will be done and thetime frame.

To find out what has already been done onthe topic and the perspective of methodsand to find out problems, which remain
unsolved. Prevents duplication of work
Identifies what the researcher takes to bekey issues, the crucial questions and the
obvious gaps in the current state ofknowledge.
It forms the foundation upon which all futurework in this area will be built

It serves to introduce readers to the findings
relating to your research question and to
justify the need for your project.
It forms early chapters of a research report
for the orientation of the reader and
prevents pointless repetition of research
It helps the researcher to know in detail allrelated research projects in progress but not
yet reported

STUDY POPULATION: This is the targetpopulation from which a sample with
definitive features will be selected, it is apopulation to which findings of samplewill be generalized.
SAMPLE POPULATION: Group selectedfor investigation from the population

subjects must have if they are includedin the study.

1.The study population: The study populationis considered because it is from which thesampling frame is obtained and findings to
be generalized.2. Statistic(s) and parameter(s):
Statistic is a characteristic of sample while aparameter is a characteristic of apopulation.
This implies that in the calculation of thesample size of a population, both thecharacteristics of the sample and that ofpopulation are put into consideration.
