Topic 2The ins and outs of Marriage

Page 2: Topic 2 marriage

Pitch• The plot would be focusing in-depth into Marriages of all different

backgrounds, looking closely at the way in which couples live. We would focus on a range of couples including heterosexual, homosexual, transgender, strict religion beliefs etc. We would focus on how couples last, and the reasons many couples divorce. We would compare the beliefs of specific relationships from modern days compared to historic beliefs and traditions.

• This would be engaging to our target audience as they would be interested to see the way many people with other backgrounds to themselves live their lives.

• This documentary would be presented to the UK citizens, specifically on channel BBC, as they currently show serious documentaries reflecting real life. We believe this is the correct channel to broadcast our documentary as it appeals to our target market.

• We believe that our target audience would consist of two main demographics that would be interested, from young adults to middle-aged adults, interested to see the differences of relationships in modern days.

• We have decided to use mainly a Reflexive mode for this topic, having the documentarian behind the camera. We believe this would be most effective when interviewing as it focus’s the attention to the interviewee, provides a more professional manor to approach the topic.

• We would throughout have a voice over of the narrator, especially in the opening sequence introducing the topic.

• We would use a range of archived footage when appropriate.

• The style we would approach this topic by would be similar to Louis Theroux’s documentaries, as he approaches his topics on a serious attitude to the audience.

• Similar existing documentaries such as ‘How will we love’, ‘After Happily Ever After’ and ‘Single: A Documentary Film’ all very different to one another but focus’ on the different types of current and previous relationships of real life people. This is one similar aspect to out documentary.

• ‘How will we love’ by Chris Bricker. As he focus’ on one couple on their 63rd anniversary, and goes through their life together and the secret to a happy marriage. ‘After Happily Ever After’ by Kate Schermerhorn. As she searches for answers about the success of marriage’s and shares her own personal experiences. ‘Single: A Documentary Film’ by Richard Atkinson, comparing single life to the life of being in a relationship.
