Don’t WorryIf you have looked at these Top Ten Tips and wondered whatsome if not all of them mean, we have given you a detailed
description in this presentation of each one…
Run a Keyword Analysis to ensureyou’re using the right keywordsto drive traffic to your site
First of all please do not be offended if you know what is meant by ‘Keywords’ – Not everyone does
We want to quickly explain the meaning so everyoneunderstands what we are saying when we advise you to
run a ‘Keyword Analysis’
Take our site as an exampleSome of our Keywords are:
‘Marketing for small businesses’‘Business Growth Strategies’
‘Guerrilla Marketing’‘Internet Marketing for small businesses’
‘Business Networking’
If you look at our main page you will see that these keywords are in:
The Title
The Headline
& the main script / body of the message
These keywords are the words we want people to use in search engines such as Google to find us.
When doing our own analysis, all of our keywords are used individually on just the home page 937 times, combined as two word phrases 54 times, as three word phrases 26 times and finally as four word phrases 15 times
So when it comes to helping us get ranked on the search engines,we are using the keywords in just the right quantity
(more on that later)
Make sure you use your Keywordsin your Title Tag
The Title Tag is the bit at the very top of your web browser. In the image above it is the bit that is underlined red.
Title Tags are vital for effective search engine optimisation and play one of the most important parts that ensure your ranking …
Despite its importance, many webmasters overlook it or simply forget to put them in place.
Check your site to ensure you have your Title Tags in place on all your pages and make sure they are relevant to the content of each particular page.
Ensure that all inbound links to your site are using the right Anchor Text
Anchor Text is simply the keywords used to link to your site from another site – We will use our own site & keywords as an example
Let’s say we have placed an article on the web and want to link it to our site to help with our search engine rankings.
In that article we link the following:Visit our site at www.rapidprofitmarketing.com for more information.
Both ‘Visit our site’ and our web address are not going to help us with our ranking because neither phrase relates to our keywords.
Using the right Anchor Text would be:

The Anchor Text in the above example is actually made up of the keywords we want people to use to find our site. So as you can see it is
important that any site linked to yours uses the right Anchor Text.
Improve your Page Rank status
To learn what your Page Rank status is you will need to download Google’s Toolbar. As in the above example, the Page Rank (circled red)
shows how Google rank the importance of your site.
How they measure this is by the number of websites linked to yours and the rankings they have.
However you do not need to have a lot of sites linked to yours to get a high Page Ranking. Having 500 sites that all have their own Page
Ranking of 0 or 1 linked back to yours is not going to help at all when it comes to your own SEO.
Having 50 sites that have a Page Ranking of 3,4 ,5 or more linked to yours is going to
have a far better effect than 100 with low ranking.
The Best Way To Describe Page Ranking Is This:
Your Site
Site linked to yours
Another Site linked to yours
Another Site linked
to your Another Site linked to yours
Another Site linked to yours
Google look at each site linked to yours as ‘A Vote’
If a site linked to your site has a ranking of 0 then they have no votes
Your Site
Site Page Ranking of
0
Site Page Ranking of
3
Site Page Ranking of
3 Site Page Ranking of
4
Site Page Ranking of
5
Of course the higher the ranking a site has, the more ‘votes’ it has and Google love that when it comes to them ranking your site & pushing you up their listings
If they have a ranking of 3 then Google see them as having 3 votes
Use a Site Map
A Sitemap helps Google’s little robotic spiders work out the structure and layout of your site in an effective manner. It also shows what internal linking you have going on
Which in turn helps towards your Page Ranking for your home page and for Google to see what pages are linked to other pages on other sites.
Use h1 & h2 tags on your key pages
h1 stands for Heading 1 & h2 stands for Heading 2
If you have all your text on your page as the same size, Google & the other search engines don’t know how important your words are and will have the whole lot down as your keywords, thereby weakening their effect.
But if you have headings that are made up of your keywords
Straight away the search engines know that these words are important
You can see from the above example the first header is h1 and the second is h2.Also having headers throughout your pages makes it easier to scan with the eye as well as the internet robots that optimise your pages
Make sure the links in to your site are from relevant feeds.
If you are an accountancy firm, having links to your site from a blog about skateboarding or extreme sports just because it has a Page Rank of 5 or more is not going to work.
Google do not like it and as a result they will drop the link, worse still even look at banning your site.
Only have links from sites that relate to your industry. If you are an accountancy firm, linking with a law firm or other professional services, the local tax office, a blog on tax etc is what Google love and they will rank you high because of it.
Use your Keywords in your text in a way that naturally flows.
When writing your text for your web pages it has to flow and read naturally. Ramming your Keywords in as many times as possible does not help at all.
It will not make sense when it’s being read and in fact Search Engines see it as spam and they will block your site.
For example if you sell Turnips and your text reads…
‘Turnips are good for you. Turnips are full of nutrition. Turnips are the best vegetables of the Turnip family. The Turnip family is made up of many Turnips. Small Turnips, large Turnips, fully shaped Turnips…
We don’t know a lot about Turnips but over use of your keywords will make your site as useful as a Turnip , which is not much use at all!!
Before we get any letters of complaint from The Turnip Appreciation Society, we were only joking.
Although at Rapid Profit Marketing no one really eats Turnips, we are sure they are an enjoyable and very tasty vegetable
and have a lot of uses.
Use Keywords for URL page name.
We see many clients make the mistake of not using keywords in the URL page name. We will use our blog as an example so as not to offend anyone else in addition Turnip Farmers and eaters.
If you look at the example above you will see that the page addressOr URL is:
100-different-ways-of-marketing-for-small-businesses-tip-11-93.html
The actual site address is rapidprofitmarketingblog.com but the page address is 100-different-ways…
(the fact that it is a blog makes no difference)
If you look at the example above you will see that the page addressOr URL is:
13-13.htmlWe ask you – What good is that?
Having keywords in the page address is far more effective for ranking than if we had the page address as 13-13.html, which to be fair we see on a lot of sites not just the ONE page we created as an
example!!
DO NOT use anyone to do your SEO who claims they can get you on to page one of Google within 24-48 hours!
A negative tip we know but before we got into SEO ourselves, we were hit with this on a previous website.
There are very good experts out there on the subject of Search Engine Optimisation. ( we would like to think we are one of them)
But there are also a lot who either have no clue what they are doing, or worse still they know exactly what they are doing and they are out to scam you and make a quick buck.
We could get you on to page one of Google tomorrow too, that is not the problem. The problem is your site wont be there next month.
Getting on to page one for the right Keywords takes time, weeks even months and making sure you stay there takes even longer.
People who claim to be able to get you there in less than 48 hours use what is called ‘Black Hat’ techniques.
These techniques are similar to spam emails and all the search engines know this, hate it and do not like anything that is not natural growth
