LOCAL SEARCH

• Chris Silver Smith – He is a Search Engine Optimization Expert, who currently works as Director of Optimization Strategies for Key Relevance, which is a bespoke search marketing agency based in Texas. Smith consistently posts on his website and on his Twitter concerning local search, and specifically leans towards its connection with Google Maps. He also has a blog and occasionally speaks at conferences such as Search Marketing Expo.

• Mike Blumenthal – Regularly updates Twitter, Google+ and blog, which are widely read and commented on, with focused discussions on the interaction between Google Maps and local search. Based in New York.

• David Mihm – Mihm runs David Mihm Inc. where he provides search expertise and even creates websites for certain clients. In addition, he posts on his blog and Twitter.

LOCAL MEDIA

• Damian Radcliffe – Currently Nations and Communities Manager at Ofcom, Radcliffe focuses on community media and its interaction with local government. As well as regularly updating his blog (which features very useful bi-monthly hyperlocal round ups), he also maintains a Twitter account, and publishes an online hyperlocal newsletter. Based in London.

• BIA/Kelsey – Focus on developments in local media and conduct research on trends within the local marketplace, producing in depth reports on this field. They are based in the US and have a Twitter, Facebook, YouTube channel, and a blog. In addition, they often run big conferences such as ILM West, about which many of our other thought leaders have blogged.

• Local SEO Guide / Andrew Shotland – SEO/SEM consultant with a blog and Twitter focused on local search engine optimization.

• Greg Sterling – Runs his own website called ScreenWerk alongside a regularly updated Twitter; both focus on all digital developments in local, with a strong recent leaning to the importance of mobile. Sterling is also a senior analyst for Internet2Go, which tracks the growing relationship between PC and Mobile, following amongst other things, the development of local search. In addition, Sterling acts as a contributing editor to Search Engine Land, which is a leading site on the search engine marketplace, followed by 83,700 people on twitter, and 32,550 on Facebook. Based in San Francisco.

• Pat Kitano – Also based in San Francisco, Kitano discusses hyperlocal news on his Twitter, blog and through posts to StreetFight. He is the co-Founder of Brand into Media; a consultancy helping businesses develop social and media based strategies for hyperlocal communities.

• Yodle – Leading US online local advertising agency, who regularly post on Twitter and Facebook on local search and social media.

• Streetfight – Hyperlocal research company, which consistently discusses developments in local space and daily deals, and is an excellent source for collating the thoughts of the main players in the industry. They also have a Twitter and Facebook.

• Carey Ransom – Ransom is CEO of Real Practice, which helps assist small businesses with their advertising. Based in California, he uses Twitter and Facebook to disseminate interesting information on Local Marketing.

• Seb Provencher – Primarily on Twitter and his blog, Provencher regularly discusses local search and social media. He is the founder of Needium – a very interesting tool which analyses what people need via their social networks and helps them connect to local businesses.

• Also of Note – Local Search Source Blog, Dev Basu, Katy Gilchrist, and Local Biz Bits, are all of interest, and worth checking out on Twitter.
