Top five historical places in and around Delhi
• Taj Mahal• Fatehpur Sikri• Agra Fort• Humayun’s Tomb• Qutub Minar
Taj Mahal
• The first monument to be declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983. The monument is also known as the” jewel of Muslim architecture in India’. This is a beautiful white-marble mausoleum, which is located in the city of Agra. This structure stands on the banks of river Yamuna.
Fatehpur Sikri
• This is also known as the Ghost Town. This was initially the capital of the Mughal Emperor Akbar for almost 10 years. The monument was declared a World Heritage Site in Uttar Pradesh. Several structures are located within its walls, some of these include Jama Masjid, Ranch Mahal ,Diwan-i-Kas , Daulat Khana are some of the main structures.
Agra Fort
• The fort is located at a distance of 2.5 km north westwards of the Taj Mahal. The fort was also known as the walled city. This was initially a brick fort which was owned by Sikarwar Rajputs.
Humayun’s Tomb
• This was India's First Charbagh Mausoleum. As the name suggests this is the tomb of Mughal emperor Humayun. This was originally constructed by his widow in 1569.
Qutub Minar
• The tower has hold rich history of the Muslim rein in Delhi. It was built by Qutbu’d-Din Aibak in AD 1198. Qutb-Ud-Din Aibak was a Turkic King of Northwest India who was the first Sultan of Delhi. Later, Qutub Minar was repaired by Firoz Shah Tughluq (AD1351-88) and Sikandar Lodi (AD 1489-1517).
