Top 5 Tips To Prevent Snoring
You should always visit your doctor if you have any health concerns.
1. Sleep On Your SideIt has been found that sleeping on your back makes you more vulnerable to snoring.
While sleeping on your back, your tongue, chin and any excess fatty tissue under your chin can relax and can therefore block your airways, resulting in snoring. Sleeping on your side can prevent this.
2. Don’t Consume Alcohol Before BedAlcohol can cause your muscles to relax more than usual during a normal night’s sleep.
This added relaxation of the muscles makes the back of the throat close much more easily, which then results in snoring.
Therefore, we’d suggest that you avoid alcohol consumption during the nighttime.
3. Keep Your Nasal Passages ClearThis ensures that you can still breathe through your nose rather than your mouth as you sleep. If your nose is blocked as the result of an allergy, we’d recommend using a nasal spray.
Snoring is the result of your airways getting blocked, making it harder to breathe whilst you’re asleep. Therefore, by keeping your nasal passages clear, it should reduce snoring.
4. Weight LossBeing overweight has been heavily linked to snoring. Therefore, by dropping a few pounds, it can have a huge impact on the amount of snoring that you do.
Even being overweight by couple of kilograms can result in snoring.
5. Stop SmokingSmoking has a clear association with heavy snoring. Therefore if you are a smoker and you were to quit, you may find that your snoring will also cease.
This is because smoking causes several issues related to breathing due to the damage that it does to the lungs.
SummarySnoring affects at least 1 in 5 people, which can explain why is it one of the main causes of sleep disruption.
