Level 3 Dental Nurse Diploma

• We are an established limited company based in South Wales and our services cover the whole of Wales and South West of England.
• All of our services are related to dental industry and all of our team are dentally qualified and experienced in their field of expertise.
• All tutors, assessors and supply staff are all qualified and certified to carry
out the services we provide and we are committed as a team to supporting you in your day to day lives in practice.
• We are a successful training centre offering dental specific training
courses in pre and post -registration areas. We are proud of our tutor team at Tooth Fairies who are all qualified to teach and are occupationally competent as DCP’s, hygienists, oral health educators, assessors, IQA’s and practice managers to senior levels- all are still working in dental environments and are up to date with current best working practices, several of the tutor team are current NEBDN examiners for several different courses and so we do naturally have areas of special interest which we teach in.
• We also operate a busy locum service to dental facilities
including practices, clinics, travelling specialists, prison services, currently serving in excess of 400 practices. There is a reason our customers use us over and over and our new customers are ever growing – and that is simply because the service and quality of our product is pleasing to our clients and the relationship we have built is that of trust and respect.

The Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing enables learners to become fully
competent in dental nursing by giving them the knowledge and skills for both
direct chairside work and for providing support in a range of dental
treatments.
Learners will learn about various aspects of dental nursing including:
First aid, providing chairside support to patients for a number of procedures,
and contributing to the production of dental images.
The course has been built on a number of principles: encourage access by
those groups of staff for whom they are designed; promote good quality
practice and high quality services; help the sector respond to changing
requirements; encourage transfer and progression; be consistent with future
legislation for statutory registration.
This qualification offers a Diploma on the Qualifications and Credits
Framework (QCF).
Total guided learning hours are 292.
This qualification was developed to provide valuable accreditation of skills
and knowledge for candidates.
This qualification was developed in association with the sector skills council
Skills for Health (SfH) who were responsible for developing the National
Occupational Standards (NOS) and it is based on the curriculum set by the
General Dental Council (GDC).

To achieve the Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing, learners must achieve 48
credits from the 15 mandatory units in the list below;
• Unit 268 First aid essentials
• Unit 301 Reducing risks to health and safety in the dental setting
• Unit 302 The role and responsibilities of a dental nurse
• Unit 304 Prepare and maintain environment, instruments and
equipment for clinical dental procedures
• Unit 305 Principles of infection control in the dental environment
• Unit 306 Provide chairside support for the assessment of patients’
oral health
• Unit 307 Contribute to the production of dental images
• Unit 308 Provide chairside support for the prevention and control
of periodontal disease and caries and the restoration of cavities
• Unit 309 Provide chairside support for the provision of fixed and
removable prostheses
• Unit 310 Provide chairside support for non-surgical endodontic
treatment
• Unit 311 Provide chairside support for the extraction of teeth and
minor oral surgery
• Unit 312 Provide information and support to patients on the
protection of their oral health
• Unit 313 Assessment of oral health and treatment planning
• Unit 314 Dental radiography
• Unit 315 Management of oral health diseases and dental
procedures

Opportunities for progression
On completion of this qualification candidates may wish to progress to work
towards some of the small qualifications available for continuing professional
development, such as
Level 3 Certificate in Dental Decontamination (3130-31)

Examination specifications
The test specifications for the units and qualification are below:
Test 1: Unit 305- Principles of infection control in the dental environment
Test 2: Unit 313- Assessment of oral health and treatment planning
Test 3: Unit 314 - Dental radiography
Test 4: Unit 315 -Management of oral health diseases and dental procedures
Each test Duration: 40 minutes
They each provide 25 multiple choice questions
(The pass mark for these tests is set at 76%)
Examination Venues -New for 2015
The exam modules will be taking place at practice as and when students are
ready to take the individual modules within the programme timeframes, as
long as there is a suitable room to do so under exam conditions.

Summary of course
18 months in duration, ½ day knowledge sessions in practice on a one to one
basis per month with the tutor with several other scheduled across the
duration for observation which will help to show competencies at chairside
procedures.
Once you have been certificated by City and Guilds in the Diploma in Dental
Nursing Level 3 you must register with the dental regulator - General Dental
Council, which allows you to continue to work chair side in the clinical
environment.
Further guidance and assistance in Continual Professional Development
requirements and GDC registration will be given to you as part of your course
completion session.
Course Costs
C&G Level 3 Dental Nursing is £1900 (this includes registration fee)
Apprenticeship routes
We have limited places available on a fully funded apprenticeship route with
us for under 25 year olds –in North Wales, please give us a call to book your
place.
Payment terms
If applicable the course cost will be invoiced in full to the practice when the
application form is received.
Course fees are paid in full at the beginning of the course, in circumstances
where the learner is paying the cost of the course; it will be considered that a
payment plan can be made to help making the course costs manageable.
All major credit cards are accepted as well as BACS facilities to ease the
process for you.

Application process
A completed application form will secure your place on the course, at this
time we will send an acknowledgement letter that meets GDC stipulation that
the nurse should be on a waiting list at an accredited training centre.
Induction
An induction and initial and diagnostic assessments are carried out prior to
any learning beginning. All students carrying out City and Guilds Diploma
must have agreement from practice principles for assessor visits to carry out
assessments in your workplace.
