Tooraweenah Public School newSleTTer - 14.12.2016
School News Week 10 Term 4 Year 6 Farewell Parents, grandparents, staff and the Years 5 and 6 students experienced a wonderful send off for Clayton, Ethan and Sam last night. Staff did a great job preparing the Multi-Purpose Room for the night. Special thanks to Gwenderlyn who brought an array of flowers and greenery from her garden along with vases to add a further touch of style to the evening. Once again Danielle and Leonie of Danni-Lee catering provided a lovely meal and service. The table settings added a rustic charm to the evening in true Tooraweenah style. My personal thanks to P and C president Kylie Moppett and her executive for their financial contribution to make the night possible. Presentation Night This will commence at 7.30pm sharp tomorrow evening. All students should be dressed in clean, neat and tidy full Summer school uniform. Children are allowed to come out of uniform on Thursday and Friday. Canteen A reminder that there will be no canteen this Friday with students having a barbecue lunch and extras on the last day. I commend to you the work of Mel Peart as our trusty canteen manager during the year and it is her work and organization, along with her band of helpers that has made the canteen such a success in 2016. NAPLAN 2017 It was planned that NAPLAN for Years 3 and 5 students was going to be conducted online in 2017. The best laid plans of mice and men have not reached fulfillment with news this week that the national assessment will be a pencil and paper one as in previous years. Computer coding Our thanks once again to James and Petria Cameron for group work with computers and coding this week. Vegetable plot Our thanks in anticipation to Ashley Starr who has volunteered to keep the patch watered over the hot weeks ahead. Nil Tolerance On a less cheery note I inform parents that starting last Monday afternoon, after a meeting with all boys at the school, a policy of Nil Tolerance applies to physical altercations (include hitting, punching, kicking, tripping, hitting each other with school equipment). This also applies to cases of continued disobedience. Step 1 - 3 warnings. Step 2 - parent contacted about suspending their child for between one to four days Step 3 – parent receives official suspension letter outlining the reason (also given at Step 2) Step 4- suspension entered on Department of Education system Step 5- A re-entry meeting with parent/s and student must occur before re-admittance to school. • If a student holds a position within the school the suspension will lead to the title been taken away and they will be given the opportunity to earn it back after re-entry to the school.
