CLASSROOM NEWS P/1/2 News What an eventful couple of weeks we have had! We have started exploring the idea of ‘Healthy Kids’- learning about the goodness of foods and promoting other positive activities for our growing bodies. In Geography, Me and my Place, we have been mapping out our town of Toora, looking at some of the key features of our town (as well as where we live in it!)

We have had many excursions. The students have enjoyed tasting fresh new fruits and vegetables at Market Fresh, they enjoyed watching acrobats preform for the FoRT Art performance as well as learning all about the Magic words ‘please, thank you, excuse me and sorry’ in last Wednesday’s play. Next week we are off again to Foster to see Opera Australia’s “The Magic Flute.” We have been visiting the Toora Kinder too enjoying the company of the younger kids. We have enjoyed our last two visits there. The next time, the Kinder kids will come to school to visit us as part of their transition to school!

Next weeks sound focus is on Hh as in house- Start thinking about Show and Tell ideas!

STEM challenge team winners constructed a chair to sit Buddy Bear on made only of paper!

Last week we went to a performance in Welshpool to see a performance called “Asking for Trouble”. It was a performance where two adults were doing funny acrobatics and building forts out of specially made stage props that looked like normal household items but they were hard to break. Lots of people liked the part were the girl was standing on the boys shoulders and touching the roof of the gym. My favourite part was where the boy made these cool stilts out of brooms and buckets and the girl stood on his shoulders while he was on stilts. Our school also went to a performance in Foster called “Magic Words” where there is a girl and a boy that play about 5 characters each. During the performance the boy played a boy named Rolf who was a bully that bullied his partner, later on during the performance an alien came down from planet Zilch with a request to save her planet from exploding caused by the negative vibes from Earth by teaching Rolf the magic words [Please, Sorry, Thank you and Excuse me] At the end of the performance they sung a song with all the magic words in different languages, my favourite part was when Zelda the alien hopped out of the space ship and did cool acrobats. It was funny. By Maddy Delaney

CLASSROOM NEWS In class I have enjoyed building catapults with Mr Tinker. Most of them are finished and ready to go! In my group is Chea, Django and myself. Our catapult is made out of spoons, rubber bands, tape, paddle pop sticks and a peg for the release mechanism. By Tom Hughes FROM MR WHITTLE - I heard some people managed to get a glimpse of the aurora event last Friday night? YEAR 3 - 6 SCIENCE PROJECT REMINDER Just to let parents know - all students have a copy of the rubric which describes the project. The Science project is due in on Thursday 8th June. STUDENT OF THE WEEK Mitchell Wilson - Prep For being a great classroom helper. Mitchell always helps to clean up and to pack up (even when its not his mess) and assist the teacher, with a smile on his face. Well Done Mitchell.

Tyler Koolen - Yr4 For his consistent efforts on writing tasks and his positive attitude towards his learning. Tyler is clearly working hard to be “the best he can be”. Great effort Tyler.

Parents and Friends Update Trash and Treasure - Big thanks to Tara Hollier and Bec Shanks for organising a successful fund-raiser for PFA. We raised $876.20 and still waiting for a bit more money to come in. This was a great community event and the children thoroughly enjoyed handling real money. Thanks to every community member that kindly donated some items and to our parents and friends who came to help on the day. The BBQ raised $168.00. A Parents Night Out – We have organised a parents night out on Saturday 17th June to Phillip Island. The aim of the night it to have fun together but keeping cost low, so everyone can attend. The Trumpet Bar has a live band with Steve Wade (ex front man of Little River Band) playing. Phillip Island has lots to offer and the night will be whatever we make it. We need to know numbers ASAP to book transport which will be the cost for the night. All venues will be free entry. BYO bus nibbles and drinks. Please let Emma, Jen, Kerry or Alex know if you’re interested in coming. Numbers need to be confirmed by 9th June. Put your name down on PFA notice board ASAP. Canteen – Next lunch order 23rd June. Lasagne and Chocolate mousse. The price for lunch or-ders has increased slightly. Main will be $3.50 and desserts $1.00 . This is to help cover some cost of our canteen. Every child when attending the Canteen meal is offered a lunch every fortnight despite having contributing any money. This is so no one child is excluded, teaching table manners, introduc-es them to some new foods, and they come together as a group and eat together. Buy sup-porting the Canteen every fortnight we hope to be able to produce some very healthy and hearty lunches at Toora Primary School. If your available to help out on the Friday or volunteer making desserts on some Wednesday afternoon after 1pm. Please see Emma Hughes. Mothers Day – Big thanks to Shannon and Bekky for organising the mother’s day pictures. Its great to get a wonderful gift off the children. Big thanks to the teachers and children on some great creative master pieces. Wood Raffle – Tickets will be coming home soon for a winter wood raffle. Hayden and Phil Need have donated the wood and chain sawing, but we need wood stackers. If you're free this Sunday 4th June at 11 am we would love your help in gathering some wood for our winter wood raffle. Bring some gumboots, warm coats and some muscles. We will meet at Toora Primary school 11 am this Sunday and follow Phil Need up to a farm. We will help collect the wood for our raffle. You just need to help collect the cut up wood and stack it into the back of a ute. If your interested please get in touch with Tara Hollier 0438533466. Uniform Swap Shop – Don’t forget the swap shop is free if you need an extra jumper or two. If your children have grown out of some uniforms bring them in , put them on the hanger and another family might benefit from it. Garden – Do you know anyone who would love to work with our children to create a beautiful garden? Please see Mrs G if you’re interested or know of anyone who would love to help. Whats up and coming : School disco last week of term…..more info to come.

PFA next meeting is on Monday 26th June at 6pm in the school gym.
