The Why What How and Who

The WhyIt is the shame of our times that the

rhymes and verse most quoted, recitedand trawled up again and again are onthe most part hundreds of years old. Myinterest is trying to put a more moderngroup of verse into the public domain. Bynow children should be skipping to rhymesother than sixteenth century accounts ofthe black death.

The WhatTowards this end I have

created a series of verse thatshould appeal to the young of allages. Some word rhymes, syllablegames, others have deeper levelsof meaning. The verse scan andare easily learned for fun andgames.

The HowThis is part of a series of poetry books is arranged in

groups of difficulty ranging from 1 to 5. The easiest is group1, the hardest group 5. It is not just that group 1's are shorter,they are the easiest to read, be spoken or remembered. Theygradually rise to group 5 which have slightly older concepts.There is no bad language or offensive words anywhere inthese poems.1 - short easy rhyming 2 - medium easy rhyming3 - medium long rhyming 4 - medium complex5 - bugger concepts

Anti-Dog

Some people buy dogs A dogs a for the walking of,Walking talking feeding petting A some people a like their dogs,Dirty smelly wheezy things A always chewing scratching things,Wheezy dogs fleezes dogs A bouncy on your kneezey dogs,

Some people keep dogs A dogs a for the petting of,To powder them a cuddle them Give them stake to eat,A paint it pink or purple No matter what you do,It's still a dirty smelly thing A fleezey wheezy dog.

Hayman Chow Bought a crooked cow,Hugged it kissed it Took it to his farm,There his wife Baked it a pudding cake,Then said well now What you going to do,The cow said O dear With a tear in her ear,You're too good For a cow like me,No one loves a bent cow No one ever has,Thank you for the pudding cake But I'll go now, >2

>2O no bent cow Said the farmers wife,You stay here dear Come nearer to the fire,They gave her a bell And a hat for her head,red,Told her a story Then tucked her up in bed,There in the darkness A twinkle in her eye,Pore old bent cow Gave a sigh,No one, She sobbed out softly,Has ever loved A crooked cow,It was very nice pudding cake, Then she went to sleep.

Bellerman Packer

Bellerman Packer Is an elephant of character,The sort you want at parties When things are rather dull,He wears an orange waistcoat With buttons made of beans,He has a sort of pocket watch That no one ever sees,He's good at folding paper Making animal balloons,His stories of the jungle Will have you on the floor,But a rather nasty habit Keeps putting him to shame,He's always sipping cider And cider makes him sneeze, >2

>2Now there's something quite disarming One may say just alarming,About the sight of Bellerman When Bellerman starts sneezing,It's not the sound like thunder Or his buttons flying off,Its the way he blows you over And everything the same,You can move out all the tables You can hide the raspberry jam,But your efforts will be wasted There is nothing you can do,When Bellerman starts sneezing He will blow you down the stairs,It is sad that such an elephant Of character indeed,Should take to drinking cider He'd be better eating cheese.

Peggy Hill Is always ill,She has tablets And powders and things,First it were legs Then it were backs,Her head Is never quite right,Her doctors quite nice The chemist is too,They deliver new pills By the sack,Her nose is all runny Her eyes always wet,Her handkerchiefs Come by the yard,She'll never get well Try as she will,Every new potion That's made,She'll die in the end She's certain of that,And told every doctor Just that,At least twice a day With two new complaints,For all of her Ninety eight years.

Lady Brown Left Cambdon TownUpon the fourteen ten, She left her houseTwo ginger cats, And a husband known as Jim,A dog called Puddle A maid called Murtle,And a large collection of gin, Suddenly gone,Without a word, She never was seen again.

Accidents happen to chickens They get fried they get grilled,They get chopped up and chilled, They get used up in curriesAnd cooked up in soup, They get frozen and batteredAnd not that it matters, The chickens don't like this at all.

Crocodile

Down at the river Where the mud lay deep,There is crocodile Sitting dreaming,Dreaming of the time When fish swim bye,Swim little fish Don't let him catch youDon't let the crocodile See you there,There on the river In a boat lay waiting,Waiting for crocodile Man with gun,Birds fly overhead Fish swim deeply,There on the bank Is a silly old grin,Bang went the gun No more crocodile,Poor old crocodile That's not fun.

In the city busses rumble Trundle, bumble everywhere,People waiting, walking running, City wakeing, slowing dawning,People shouting, morning calling, Start again a busy day,

In the station speakers calling Porters shouting, doors slamming,Engines moving, signals changing, People rushing, tickets passing,Crowds pushing, early morning, Swallowed up by city streets,

Round and round the multi car park, Swarming round like little bees,Parking boxes, busy workers, Rushing, walking, wakeing yawning,Winding up, slowly moving, City starts another day,

Albert

Albert ‘ad allotment Biggest carrots ever known,One were big as Albert dad One his aunty Flow,He grew the biggest marrow Ever seen at Tinguply show,They say were big as Albert wife It broke the stand in two,

But Albert on allotment Out reached himself one day,With his special dug in compost And his ultra secret spray,Aiming for the gold cup prise He met a sad demise,It were runner beans that got him They ran him out of town.

Had big dog Name was Charley,Left him with A dish of bones,Said stay there Left for a while,Then got back Dog gone !That dar’n dog Dar’n gone,

The Doobery Bird he blinked his eyes Thought to himself, rather odd in itselfAs Doobries have very small brains, Nice day for a fly perhaps I will tryBut made little effort to start, Taking a breath he stretched out his wingsAnd flapped them as hard as he could, After minutes of flapping, gulping of airHis flight had not even started, He decided to stop and think a bit moreAbout apples and trees and Newtons first law, And things that affected his flight,The Doobery decided to begin at the start Rather than start at the end,He started to run with wings out stretched He flapped them as hard as he could,But yekkerty dee he went quite askew One foot tripped up on the other,His head hit the ground a resounding sound Like one Elephant hitting another, >2

>2He awoke with a yawn and a very sore head, Said Nice day for a fly perhaps I will tryThen remembered he'd said that before, He picked himself up and shook himself downAnd started again, making quite sure His feet were on each side of his body,The Doobery ran as fast as he could Until there was nothing to run on,He looked down at the ground only to find The earth was was considerably lower,It struck him at once that he was no dunce, For now he was actually flying. Shuffle on shuffle on The co-coo said,Don,t let the world Get on your head,Don't stop dancing Sing and shout,Push on push on You lazy trout,Streams don't burn The sky's not red,Don't be so dumb Get out of bed,Over and over You silly old mule,The worlds still moving Except for a fool.

Telephone

The man on the phone Had a very long tone,He was trying to tell me I'd got a wrong number,Or another crossed line Where the beeps were on time,It was one of those phones That plays silly tunesWhen you're trying to talk To your friend,You're half round the bend When the symphony ends,And William Tell chimes For the nine hundredth time,It was just a quick call A convenient thing,You now need the doctors And physio brain help,I must buy a pen Start writing again,I wonder what happened To letters.

Constable May Had had a bad day,He had lost his whistle, And bent his bike,His hat was all crumpled, His truncheon was broke,His uniform torn His trousers all wetAs he sat in the road, Looking rather forlorn,He'll never try riding, Riding again,He'll never try speeding, Speeding again,Down gasworks hill, At least not beforeHe’s checked, All his breaksAre working.

Only on dark moonless nights do pick up thegolden quill of Shakespeare and try to make theworld a better prose for good words to live in.
