Tony Armand Prague, The Golden City

About Tony Armand. He ranks Prague as one of the most beautiful, magical cities on the planet. Largely bombed around during World War II, the city has retained its majestic city center, with its nooks and crannies awaiting exploration by the curious traveler.Tony Armand and travel presentation on SlideShare shows that the city of Prague – that is to say, the settlement that gradually grew into the city that so many people know and love today – is one that dates back to before the Common Era.

The reign of Charles IV – first King of Bohemia, then Holy Roman Emperor – created the biggest and most lasting changes to his city. Feeling that, as Emperor, he deserved a city truly worthy of the name – and truly worthy of being the seat of the world’s greatest empire – he undertook the single largest urban growth project of the Middle Ages. Under the eye of Charles IV, and the master skills of his architects (one of whom, Petr Parler, also did extensive work on Prague Castle), the city grew to twice its previous size.

Prague at Christmastime is a magical sight. Open-air pens show off donkeys, ponies, sheep, and goats. An enormous Christmas tree is erected in Old Town Square, and ceremoniously decorated. Stages showcase various performances – singers, dancers, and the like. Food is everywhere, especially roast ham, mulled wine, Czech pastries, and hot chocolate. Horse-drawn carriages await tourists.
