The Geneva School is educating for life.

IN THE BEGINNING, THE SPIRIT OF GOD MOVES ACROSS A FORMLESS VOID AND CREATES THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH.

The Son of God preaches that faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains. A German friar nails 95 Theses to the door of the Castle Church and initiates the movement toward the Protestant Reformation. An English politician and philanthropist leads the movement to abolish the slave trade.

A young Italian sculptor, painter, and architect lifts a chisel to sculpt David. A musical prodigy from Austria raises a baton to begin “The Magic Flute.” And a recent Geneva graduate and entrepreneur launches a digital platform that piques the attention of the business community.

Movements vast and small, across time, across countries, and most often—just across the street—open doors of great opportunity.

Welcome to our Movement in G—your opportunity to provide generations of students an experience of God’s greatness and glory through the wonder of education.

OUR MOVEMENT BEGAN MORE THAN TWO DECADES AGO. THE SEEDS TO PLANT A CHRISTIAN CLASSICAL SCHOOL WERE SOWN WHEN A GROUP OF FRIENDS GATHERED TO DISCUSS THE STATE OF EDUCATION IN AMERICA AND HOW THEY MIGHT TRANSFORM IT.

At the time, Christian classical education—an educational model whose roots grew deep in the soil of Western Civilization—was gaining traction in pockets across the country but had yet to arrive in Orlando. As the conversation continued late into the evening, the group’s excitement grew at the prospect of providing a Christ-centered education in the liberal arts tradition in our own back yard. By midnight a prayerful resolve had galvanized this group to start The Geneva School.

From 34 students and five faculty members in 1993, The Geneva School has grown to nearly 500 students and a faculty and staff of 100 today—far outgrowing its current facilities. The Geneva School has now reached another critical milestone. In order to keep pace with the ever-increasing need for the unmatched education it provides, The Geneva School must have room to grow and for students to flourish. The culture and education Geneva seeks to provide would be best accomplished with a permanent campus—one that brings all students together on one campus, one that provides classrooms, common spaces, athletic venues, and outdoor spaces dedicated to serving the academic, artistic, and athletic development of each of the students, and one that is called home by the whole community. To continue to move forward, we need you.

THE GREAT THINGS WE BUILD ALWAYS END UP BUILDING US—AND OUR LEGACY.

As the legacy of The Geneva School is etched in new classrooms on a larger footprint its commitment of pursuing truth, goodness, and beauty through wisdom and virtue will be etched into the minds and hearts of our children today and tomorrow. This is a great mission because we serve a greater God. Come build this legacy with us.

SCRIPTURE TELLS US THAT WHEN TWO OR THREE GATHER IN HIS NAME, GOD WILL BE AMONG US.

A movement toward greatness always requires the gathering of those who are like-minded and focused on a singular goal. By God’s grace, your cooperation and generosity will help Geneva grow to its full potential. Give as liberally as you are able to ensure that The Geneva School’s movement will continue.

FAQS

WHAT IS THE TARGET DATE FOR BEGINNING?We expect to begin Phase 1 early in 2016.

WHAT WILL BE THE STUDENT CAPACITY OF THIS NEW FACILITY?We will be able to accommodate 750 students after completion of Phase 1. Phase 2 will increase the capacity to 1200 students.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST AND HOW WILL IT BE FUNDED?Phase 1 has a price tag of about $26 million. We have already raised $6 million from the Legacy campaign that was used to purchase the property. With lending partners willing to loan up to $7 million, the campaign’s goal is to raise $14 million from the Geneva community.

WHAT IS THE SIZE AND SCOPE OF THE PROJECT?The site plan for Phase 1 consists of three structures, totaling more than 115,000 square feet, and includes such features as a black box theatre, da Vinci Center, and competition gymnasium. In addition we will have numerous athletic fields spread across the 40 acre site.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH OUR EXISTING CAMPUSES?We plan to sell the main campus and use the net proceeds toward the operational expenses of the new campus. We currently lease the property used for the Early Childhood Campus, so there is no financial transaction involved with that site.

WHO ARE OUR PARTNERS IN THIS MOVEMENT IN G VENTURE?After a lengthy vetting and bidding process, we are pleased to announce the following project partners:

SchenkelShultz, ArchitectureBrasfield & Gorrie, General ContractorCNL Commercial Real Estate, DeveloperDeJONG-RICHTER, Educational ConsultantsBanking Institution TBD, Financial Partner

WHEN DO WE START?We will begin facility construction once we have successfully raised the $14 million in pledges and/or outright gifts.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE ATTRIBUTES OF THE NEW CAMPUS AND BUILDINGS?The emphasis on the design of the new campus has continued to be on community because this is a central element in Geneva’s philosophy and culture. Various nooks, gathering areas, and spaces within the architectural design will encourage great conversation and meaningful interaction among students, teachers, and parents. A signature gathering space, the heart of the school, will be a traditional grass courtyard, centrally located. The black box theatre will provide us with our own venue for dramatic productions. The da Vinci Center will serve as a creative space for student collaborations, seminar presentations, art exhibits, and our annual senior Western Narrative Project. Additionally, the 750 student capacity will allow for three classes within every grade level with most of our growth occurring at the upper school level. The green space of our acreage will support our athletic program, practice fields, and all of our physical education needs.

WHAT ABOUT TECHNOLOGY IN THIS NEW FACILITY?The school will be completely wireless while still making use of hard-wired functionality to accommodate future technology. The manner in which education is delivered is always evolving, so special attention will be given in the new facility to equip our students for the future while remaining true to our core classical pedagogy.

THIS NEW SCHOOL HAS BEEN LABELED A “21ST CENTURY SCHOOL.” WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?Much more emphasis has been placed on flexible space for student breakout and collaborative work. This space will be especially accommodating to different teaching modalities. There are also outdoor learning spaces. Additionally, LEED certification will be a driver of sustainability, and Geneva will be equipped with the newest, upgraded security technologies to meet our high standards for the protection of our community.

WILL GENEVA’S ECONOMIC MODEL CHANGE?No, the model will not change. Tuition adjustments consistent with our school’s historical increases will be neccessary but there will not be a spike to a new level. We expect the growth in the student body to cover the increased overhead of the new facilities, allowing Geneva to maintain its commitment to a healthy socio-economic diversity through student financial aid.

ARE THERE NAMING OPPORTUNITIES?If a donor is gracious enough to lend us his or her family’s name for a particular venue on the campus, we would be deeply grateful and honored. For more information about naming opportunities, please contact The Geneva School’s Advancement Office.

REMEMBERING WHY WE EXISTA PLACE TO FLOURISH—WHERE STUDENTS ENJOY A LIFE-GIVING EDUCATION

“A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.” – Greek proverb

GROWING LIFELONG LEARNERSWe want Geneva students to understand that learning is much more than reading textbooks, taking notes, and answering questions on a test. It’s about engaging God’s world with wonder, imagination, and creativity, not just while they’re with us but for the rest of their lives. This principle is core to who we are and how we teach.

LOVING BEAUTY

14

LOVING BEAUTYWe are created imago Dei – in the image of God; therefore, we can appreciate the goodness He has made. It is a joy therefore to focus on that which is good, true, and beautiful. We introduce our students to noble and beautiful objects of study, nourishing their imaginations and developing their skills of discernment so that they will always recognize the truth, goodness, and beauty of God in the world—and become vessels to share it with others.

THINKING DEEPLYDeep roots are strong roots. And when they are enriched with the right nutrients and planted in rich soil, they provide a secure foundation for continued growth. This is what inspires our teaching of classic literature, Latin, and scientific theory, and why we invite our students to join in “The Great Conversation,” whose discussions include literature, math, science, religion, philosophy, and history. It’s foundational to what they’re learning now—and to the learning they’ll do for the rest of their lives.

PURSUING CHRIST’S CALLINGGod has uniquely gifted each person; each student has golden threads which weave together with others to form a beautiful tapestry. We believe that each person is called to prosper the Kingdom of God through his/her particular vocation. Therefore, Geneva seeks to partner with families to help students discover and shape those gifts and strengths that God has given to them. When a student’s passion is ignited, a direction in life becomes clearer and the student is then better prepared to make a significant contribution in this life.

Page 15: TOMORROW’S LEGACY BEGINS TODAY.€¦ · help students discover both context and connectedness. TENDING THE GARDEN Weeding and pruning are some of the most important things you do

NURTURING CONNECTIONSMath is more than sums and subtractions; it shows up in the notes and measures of music. History is not simply a list of dates; it is how God works in and through people and places. Latin is more than a language; it is elemental to understanding the structure of language and unlocks science, math, and literature. Relationships exist among every discipline; rather than studying each in isolation our joy is to help students discover both context and connectedness.

TENDING THE GARDENWeeding and pruning are some of the most important things you do to help a garden flourish; hearts, minds, and bodies are no different. That’s why we take the time for teachable moments—even when it requires us to step outside of our schedule. We want to understand what’s going on in the hearts of our students, not just modify outward behavior. This requires time and attention in the short term, but it is worth it in the long term. Tending the garden will bear good fruit for our students, our families, our school, and our community.

BEARING FRUITStudents graduate from Geneva with much more than a diploma. Genvea alumni are ready to thoughtfully engage their college experience and vocational pursuits. Their hearts are fertile ground as they discover who they are in Christ and begin to bear fruit in the lives of those around them. Our alumni are equipped to lead and serve their friends, their families, their workplace, and their communities.
