StartSeparator(1) Ensure that the liquid at the drag under the

frame is completely discharged. Then start the centrifuge.

(2) Lower the spindle guard by unscrewing from the bearing base if the bowl rotates normally and tighten it firmly to the spindle guard gasket.

(3) When the bowl reaches the rated speed, fill the bowl with about 4ℓ of water, hot water or heavy liquid until it overflows the cover. This operation is referred to as priming.

(4) Upon completion of priming, supply the feed and gradually increase the amount up to the rated level.

Clarifier(1) Same as left.

Stop(1) Stop feeding the processing liquid.(2) After the processing liquid has been no longer discharged, turn off the motor

switch.(3) As the bowl slows down, the processing liquid in the bowl loses centrifugal

force, and falls to the bottom of the frame and is discharged from the drain port.(4) Release the spindle guard and screw it into the bearing base.(5) Loosen the coupling nut, release the between the bowl and the spindle, then push

the spindle upward and lock it.(6) Push up the spindle upward to fix it.(7) Attach the protecting cap to the bowl.(8) Remove the cover.(9) Take out the bowl from frame gently.(10) Clean the bowl according to the instructions in Disassembling/assembling of

Bowl.

Inspection & RemedyInspection items

Bowl (1) Cleaning of the bowl (2) Replacement of bowl boss sleeve

Belt (3) Replacement of the belt(4) Engagement of belt with each pulley

Drag (5) Cleaning, with the drag removed(6) Replacement of drag body gasket(7) Replacement of bullet catch(8) Replacement of drag spring(9) Replacement of drag bushing

Bearing (10) Replacement of bearing itemNo. 19-7 of bearing assembly.

Idler (11) Idler arm assembly

Time of check/replacement

Each time the machine is stopped. When the outerdiameter is worn to less than 29mm, or severe damage is observed. When the belt is frayed. Before starting up the machine.Once or more a month.Replace with new part if damaged.Replace fatigued bullet catch with new one.Once a year.Replace when the inner diameter is worn to

less than 32mm.Replace half-yearly. Replace it each time the

bearing assembly is disassembled.Disassemble it every three months and refill

grease Shell Alvania #2 or the equivalent to idler shaft bearing. Replace the bearing of the idler pulley every 6 months.

Cause and Remedy

9

When the bearing is noisy

When the bowl excessively vibrates

When the belt is damaged

- Replace the bearing with new one

- Disengage the bowl from the spindle, and clean the inside of the coupling nut

- Clean the top surface of the bowl, threaded portion, and the concave part where the spindle enters.

- Thoroughly clean the bowl.- If vibration persists after the above steps have been taken, replace the spindle. If it fails again, check the bowl top for bending. If the bowlneck is bent, return it to our factory.

- Check if the belt is put over the edge of thebearing pulley, idler pulley, or motor pulley.

- Ensure that the surface of all pulleys is smooth.

Cause and Remedy(Con’t)

10

When wear of the bowl bosssleeve and the drag bushingis abnormal

When the motor speed abruptly increases while the bowl speed remains unchanged

- Check the bowl for vibration.- When processing liquid full of abrasive

sludge, clean the drag assembly at each stop. - Ensure that the drag bushing is free to move.

If it sticks, replace the drag spring and bullet catch.- Check the bowl boss sleeve surface for flaws.

If there are flaws on the surface, smoothen it with a fine sandpaper(#400 or finer).

- Ensure that the machine body is installed in the true level position.

- Ensure that lubricating grease can be properly injected.

- Ensure that the spindle nut is securely tightened, and check the clearance between the spindle and thespindle screws.

- Check the belt for excessive slackness, and if so,adjust it with the idler. If it cannot be adjusted, replace the belt.

Cause and Remedy(Con’t)

11

When the flexible coupling is damaged

When the processing liquid cannot be fed

- Ensure that the male clutch and the female clutch are properly engaged with each other.

- Check if the male clutch and female clutch engage smoothly.

- Ensure that the voltage is not higher than that designated on the nameplate of the motor.

- Ensure that the drain at the bottom of the frame is discharged.

- If nothing is found abnormal in the above 3 items, replace the flexible coupling with new one.

- Check the piping feed nozzle for clothing.- Check the bowl bottom for sludge clogging.- In the case of pump feeding, check the

suction line for air entrainment.

Cause and Remedy(Con’t)

12

When the motor is overheated

When the separation is incomplete

When the separation is abnormal

- Ensure that the voltage is adequate to the motor.- Ensure that the drain at the bottom of the frame is

discharged. - Ensure that the engagement of the drag bushing and

the bowl sleeve is not tight. - Ensure that the bearing assembly is easy to turn by

hand. If not, check the bearing assembly.- Ensure that the motor speed is adequate.- Ensure that the three wing is fully inserted.- Check the belt for proper tension.- Check the bowl’s ring dam for proper adjustment.- Try to decrease the feed rate.

- Check the bowl bottom gasket, ring dam gasket, discharge screw gasket and the like for damage.

- When priming is involved, try priming once again. If the seal is damaged again, replace the ring damwith smaller number.

Disassembling of Bowl(1) Release the connection between the bowl and

the coupling nut and push the spindle upward, then fit the bowl protecting cap into the threaded part of the bowl top.

(2) Remove the covers one by one and pull out the bowl gentry from the frame and place it on the cleaning table.

(3) To remove the bowl bottom, fit the grove under the bottom the bowl shell into the bowl vise, and strike the handle of the bowl bottom wrench with a hammer.

NOTE : Careless handling of the stainless steel bowl may cause engagement at the threaded part resulting in unbalance.

Assembly of Bowl

(1) Push the three wing until it reaches the inside dam disk

(2) Using the bowl bottom wrench, screw the bowlbottom into the bowl shell. Check V mark when the bowl bottom is securely tightened. If thedeviation from mark V on the bowl shell is about25mm or more, replace the bowl bottom gasket. The bowl bottom should be of the same number asthe bowl shell. If a bowl bottom of a different machine is used, unbalance may result.

(3) Fit suitable discharge screw or ring dam dependingon the specific gravity of two liquids to be separated. At this time, be sure to install the discharge screwgasket or ring dam gasket and securely tighten it to be free of leakage.

17

Drag AssemblyDisassembling(1) Remove the nut and take out the drag assembly.(2) Remove the shell using a drag shell wrench.(3) Remove the ferrule cap with a hand. If it is screwed

tightly, remove it placing the ferrule body on the ferrule holder.(4) Take out the bushing from the ferrule body. It can be removed

easily with hands, but if it is tightly fixed, take it out with a drag ferrule slug so as not to damage the drag bushing.

(5) Remove the field nozzle with a wrench if an ordinary drag isused.

Assembling(1) Assemble in the reverse sequence of disassembling.(2) Do not forget to fix a gasket to the field nozzle.(3) Idler arm bearing

- Disassemble the bearing every three months and refill the grease. - Use shell Albania #2 grease.

(4) Drag assembly- Turn the grease cap by 1/3 turn when started. - Use the Sharples Nevastane harmless grease (food grade).
