As of tomorrow afternoon, the school will be closed for the next two weeks. Students and teachers will all return on Monday 12 th October for the start of Term 4. I hope your holidays are full of opportunities to make lasting memories. Awards Yesterday I had the pleasure of reading out the awardees for the Certificates of Merit and the Gold PBL winners via our TEAMS assembly. Teachers had the certificates in class and were able to award the children with the certificates on the spot. Congratulations to everyone for their wonderful work this term. Names are included in our newsletter. Crazy Sock Day There were socks with ribbons, socks with tassles, socks with fluro, spots, stripes, feathers and coloured bands. What an assortment! Congratulations to the school for filling up the PBL tower with Gotcha awards for showing Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best. What a huge effort. Mrs Donovan has included more information on this and a photo. Congratulations and Thank You Over the last 10 weeks, S2G have had the privilege of having Miss Alaska Breen working as the Intern on the class. An intern is in the last portion of their educational training as a teacher and Miss Breen has been an outstanding addition to our school in this time. I look forward to seeing her employed in the school as a casual teacher during Term 4. Congratulations Miss Breen and thank you for your contributions over the past 10 weeks. Over the past three terms we have had Mrs Creedon working in 2/3N replacing Mrs Knox, who was on Long Service Leave and then transition to retirement. Mrs Creedon has done an amazing job and I would like to thank her for all her hard work and enthusiasm. Next term we will be welcoming Mrs Knox’s permanent replacement, Mrs Kim Kirkpartick, who was recently successful through the merit selection process. Mrs Kirkpatrick comes to us with a wealth of experience and I am sure she will enjoy the move to our beautiful school. Tell Them From Me Survey and Focus Groups Recently, you might have seen the video of staff asking you to consider completing the survey for us and letting you know that we will be contacting people to ask you your opinion on a couple of key questions in Term 4. In the past we have had numbers such as 6, 16, 22 and 34 families completing the survey. I was hoping to get to 100 families this year, and whilst it does not look like we will make that particular target, I am thrilled to say that at this point in time we have certainly set a new record with 53 responses to the survey. There is still time to help out. We even released our ‘Blooper’ video to not only make you laugh but to inspire you to assist. The Tell Them From Me survey closes tomorrow at 3.45pm. The link is on Class Dojo if you want to help us get our new record. Restrictions – Year 6 Farewell/Kinder Orientation It is hoped that at the start of Term 4 we will have a much clearer picture regarding the restrictions that will be in place and whether any more of these will be lifted. We have been told we can have a modified Year 6 Farewell, which I know made the Stage 3 teachers extremely happy. A contingency plan regarding the Kinder Orientation process is also in place and this will begin at the start of Term 4.

Whilst COVID-19 has certainly changed how we do things, I am sure our new processes, whilst different to what we are used to, will enable us to move forward and ‘think outside the box’. It has certainly been a challenging time for students, families and staff and I hope the next two weeks gives you a chance to rest and recharge.

Have a wonderful break and take care

Chris Gray

TPS Public Speaking finals TPS Public Speaking finals for 2020 were held last week. We were forced to approach the finals in a different manner this year with restrictions on audience attendance due to COVID-19. The finalists rose to the challenge magnificently and did not appear at all daunted by the concepts of being streamed live into their classrooms. Congratulations to all students for the outstanding manner in which they competed this year. The range of persuasive topics was intriguing and engaging.

Thank you to the judges Mr Gattenhof, Mr Wagland (Tomaree HS), Mr Cornish, Ms Holloway, Mrs Harrison and Ms Abraham. With the high quality of the speakers and topics, the job of adjudicating was challenging. Thank you also to Mrs Bunny and Mrs Sullivan for assisting with the organisation and running of the finals.
