The IC7 Indoor Cycle and it’s Coach By Color® Power program brings optimum performance and opportunity to group exercise, team coaching, personal training an even individual use. World-class technology and member-centric coaching will make your program more Colorful, more Powerful and definitely more Original. That means better experiences and better results for your customers, and that

will keep them coming back.

ColorfulThe IC7’s Coach By Color® training console uses one of the world’s most simple, universal and powerful forms of communication to maximize instruction, motivation and reward during your members’ workouts. The console’s display lights up in one of five colored zones that matches the user’s WattRate® (Power) reading or heart rate output so they know immediately whether they need to ratchet up or dial back their effort. Plus, the integrated front LED display on each console tells instructors when certain students are

working too hard or not hard enough.

PowerfulIC7’s WattRate® (Power) meter provides your members with immediate and precise feedback on the direct effort they’re putting in, to ensure they have absolute control of the results they get out. Power-based training with WattRate® – the market’s most accurate Power meter - provides the ultimate way for your

members to see results and reach goals faster.

OriginalThe IC7’s advanced ergonomics, superior biomechanics and precision engineering provide your members with maximum comfort and performance by being fully and correctly connected to the bike and their body. It’s when users are connected to their workouts that we witness more positive psychological and physiological experiences, which promotes faster results and happier members who aspire to train more

at your facility.

THe SCIeNCe BeHIND COACH BY COLOR®

ColorLife is not black and white. We live in color - every minute of every day. Color is powerful. It can spur action and compel reaction. Color is evocative. It can influence thoughts, feelings and emotions. Color is

universal. Red means “hot“ and blue means “cool“ in just about every culture.

To Coach By Color® is to use one of the world‘s most intuitive and effective forms of communication to help members receive a greater experience and achieve better fitness results in less time. The Coach By Color® Power program relies on color‘s natural and stimulating properties to accurately coach a member‘s effort during a workout. Coach By Color® elicits the right psychological and physiological response at the right time to encourage greater maximal effort and reward recovery effort. It fosters connections among members and enhances instructor communication. Thus, Coach By Color® increases social interaction while it maximizes training results. More simply, that means members find comaraderie more easily, enjoy the process more and reach their goals more quickly. Those are the kinds of benefits that boost new-

member acquisition and retention.

Training ZonesCoach By Color® has five colored training zones: white, blue, green, yellow and red. These zones can be linked to WattRate® (Power) and Functional Threshold WattRate® (FTW), or heart rate and percentage of Heart Rate Max (HRM). FTW represents the workload above which an individual cannot sustain prolonged exercise. Similar to HRM, once an individual‘s FTW is known, users are assigned the five colored zones to

accurately coach their effort for the best customized results.

Why is color so important for Power?

A very small percentage of consumers have any understanding of Power

and power-based training. To the vast majority it‘s “another number“ that

creates a layer of complexity to their otherwise well rehearsed, and

loved workouts.

To make Power powerful, we first need to make it simple by using color to remove the technical and practical

barriers associated with working with numbers. Not only is switching between a user’s personalized blue and red zone, or holding the yellow

zone fun, users quickly and intuitively learn what the numbersmean in terms

of effort. Through Coach By Color® we will ensure power-based training

is inclusive and widely adopted, so cycling‘s ultimate training tool can

help us in wellness, fitness and athletic performance.

For Personal and Team TrainingOn the cardio floor or in the studio, the Power:Drills program puts the power-based training in the hands of Coaches, Personal Trainers and Gym Instructors in a practical, colorful way. As the ultimate tool to train and test teams (small groups) or individuals for sports and fitness goals, Power:Drills will add a new dimension to coaching and member experience. Plus, it increases revenue through personal training as well as member acquisition and retention. The foundation behind Power:Drills is High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) incorporating strength, speed and endurance athletic protocols. HIIT’s advanced form of interval training is results-orientated and reduces session time to maximize a facility’s opportunity to train

more members, more of the time with optimal success.

300 DegRee MAgNeTIC ReSISTANCe

FeATUReSpOTLIgHT

Why so much attention to the resistance

assembly? From Indoor Cycling‘s conception, the most common form-factor for

adjusting resistance is the dial. This design has proven very intuitive and

practical. The dial is easy to operate from both a standing and seated

position, intuitive to know which way to increase and decrease resistance,

and pushing down on an object in an emergency is more natural than pulling

up. Its only weakness is, no matter if it‘s pressing a brake-pad onto the

wheel or lowering a magnet, it takes multiple turns of the dial to travel from minimum to maximum, meaning less

precision and resistance lag.

So when the first cable-operated magnetic resistance bikes arrived we witnessed levers that took you from zero to high resistance in one super fast movement. But there are issues.

Adjusting a lever in an aggressive forward standing position isn‘t natural or comfortable, and pushing a lever to its maximum position isn‘t intuitive in an emergency. ICG needed to design

a solution from the ground up, and the solution was: Magnetic resistance

operated by a cable activated by a dial. That dial has a limited 300

degree movement with 100-step tactile increments. In the event of an

emergency, the user pushes down.

And for club-owners, there‘s ICG‘s Poly-V belt drivetrain technology for maximum durability and reduced servicing. Take the IC3 for a ride and you‘ll be a believer.

155 MM Q FACTOR

FeATUReSpOTLIgHT

What is the Q Factor and how does it affect riders

and club owners?Q Factor is the distance between your

feet when you sit on the bike and pedal. The right Q Factor makes Indoor Cycles more bio-mechanically efficient

by keeping the rider’s hip, knee, and foot in alignment and maximizing the muscular forces applied to the pedal.

Q Factor has been the topic of much debate in the industry. Anatomically, people feel more comfortable when

the pedals are closer together, as they are on a road bike. The Tomahawk IC3

features the new, industry-standard Q Factor of 155 mm, which makes the Indoor Cycle feel more like a real bike. The benefits include increased safety,

comfort, and efficiency in every pedal stroke.

IC2

pOLY-V BeLT DRIVeTRAIN

FeATUReSpOTLIgHT

Why will belt drives benefit riders and club

owners?Bike drivetrain systems transmit the power from pedaling to the wheels.

Most bikes use a chain to help propel the bicycle forward. A “chainless”

bicycle transmits power to the wheels through a mechanism other than a

metal chain. In most cases, this is via a belt.

The Tomahawk Poly-V belt is quieter, stretches less, and transfers more power than other belts. Belts are

becoming the norm in Indoor Cycling. They require less maintenance, have

fewer breakdowns, improve pedaling technique, permit less momentum-

based recovery, make the rider work more efficiently, and are safer for

new riders. They save the club owner money, decrease liability, make less

noise, and train participants more effectively.

Product Director Gary Warren

ICG has consulted with literally hundreds of clubs, from budget operators to award-

winning facilities, on how to maximize their investment in video with Myride.

Our Product Teams, Master Trainers, Graphic Designers and Audio Visual

experts have found solutions for all our clients’ expectations, operational

requirements and budgets.

Though every studio is different, we have created a strong guideline as a “change management exercise” to

maximize your space and establish the experience of greatest immersion.

1. LIgHTINgYour Myride footage will be brighter and more engaging

the darker your environment. Make sure your instructor or staff member has full control over the lights. If the

cycling space is near windows, you would be advised to limit sun exposure completely or as much as possible.

2. SCReeN SIZeBigger is better. Virtual coaching and forward-motion

footage create greater immersion (the sense that it’s real) when the screen is larger.

3A. SCReeN-TO-BIKe DISTANCeWhichever projector screen or TV you choose, it is important that

the front row of bikes should not be too close. Our approximate guide is: for every 1.0 meter (3.25 feet) of screen width, the front

row of bikes is 0.7 meters (2.25 feet) back. For example, 3.0 m (10 ft) screen = 2.1 m (6.75 ft) front row distance. The final size of the screen and its distance to the front row of bikes are your preference.

3B. SCReeN-TO-FLOOR DISTANCe (pROjeCTOR OR VIDeO WALL)

When installing a bigger screen, typically for a larger Indoor Cycling studio or a gym floor space, it is important not

to start the screen at floor-level or raise it too high. Our approximate guide is: a 2 to 4+ meters (6.5 to 13 foot) screen (horizontal width) should be placed so that the bottom of

the screen is 1 to 1.5 meters (3.25 to 5 feet) from floor level.

3C. SCReeN-TO-FLOOR DISTANCe (TV, ONe ROW OF BIKeS)When installing a smaller screen for a smaller Indoor Cycling studio

or a gym floor space, it is important not to install the screen too high. Our approximate guide is to place the bottom of the screen 1 to 1.5 meters (3.25 to 5 feet) from floor level for any size TV (60” standard).

3D. SCReeN-TO-FLOOR DISTANCe (TV, MULTIpLe ROWS OF BIKeS)

When installing a smaller screen for a smaller Indoor Cycling studio or a gym floor space, it is important not to install the screen too high. Our approximate guide is to place the bottom

of the screen 1.5 to 2.0 meters (5 to 6.5 feet) from floor level for any size TV (60” standard). Please be sure to mount the TV at a downward angle for a better viewing experience.

061

4. SCReeN IN CeNTeR OF BIKeSFor all installations (virtual or live apps), the screen should be

placed in the center (mid-point) of the group of cycles, or as close to it as possible, taking into consideration the overall width of the

space and the placement of the instructor during live coaching.

5. CeILINg HeIgHT AND YOUR pROjeCTOR Lower ceiling heights will affect buying decisions for projectors and screens. If the ceiling height is too low, it might not be

possible to achieve a larger projected image without riders from the front rows of bikes casting shadows on the screen. To avoid shadows, the screen should be made smaller by

bringing the projector closer to, and slightly above, the front row of bikes, as opposed to behind them. An alternative

is to get a stronger performance short-throw projector.

6. MANAgINg MIRRORS Mirrors and Myride do not mix well. If a screen is dropped in front of mirrors, the participants at the far sides of the studio

tend to see the class’s reflection, as well as the Forward-Motion Video. When this happens, the illusion of traveling

forward can be distorted. Our recommendation is to remove all mirrors or make sure the video is screened on the opposite wall. If the space in question is a multi-purpose group

exercise studio, then the mirrors are essential and a pull-down screen should be selected, leaving the mirrors as they are.

7. INSTRUCTOR, STeReO AND CONSOLe pLACeMeNT

Unlike traditional classes, a live coaching Myride+ class will require the instructor, the stereo controls, and the Myride VX console to be on the right or left side of the

cycling studio/space, so that the screen takes center stage.

8. CONSOLe pLACeMeNT FOR VIRTUAL COACHINg

If you are purchasing virtual apps only, with no intent to purchase live apps, you can design your cycling space to position the Myride VX console anywhere you wish – in or outside the studio. You will need

to consider running the cables to the stereo and screen or projector.

9. WALL DeSIgNWe advise that the wall housing the screen remain a solid color

like black, grey or white to ensure that the Myride footage attracts the viewer’s full attention. Many of our premium installations

have extended the theme of outdoor riding by applying stunning location vistas on the other walls. This can be done

using pictures or a full wallpaper print. ICG can provide beautiful high-resolution imagery for application by your chosen supplier.

10. pReMIUM THeATRe-STYLe STUDIOS Studios that have tiered floor levels rising in height from

the front to the back are known as theatre-style. If you are installing Myride in this type of studio, additional

consideration must be given to items 3b, 3c and 3d.

First of all, we wanted to bring in a third brand colour, a colour that sat well in an existing neutral palette of blacks, whites and greys. We needed something that would really contrast with and complement these neutral colors. The colour we chose was Pantone red 1797C.

Secondly, we needed an art direction for the new photography required forthe catalogue. We sat down as a team and decided which three things weneeded to achieve:1. We wanted to capture outdoor riding, since manypeople train on indoor cycles in preparation for the outdoors. This meant we needed shots of road racing, mtb, bmx & cyclocross.

2. Shots of models on the bikes we are selling.

3. Shots of the emotions we all go through when training and competing. We arranged numerous photo shoots, using our own indoor photography studio, and for the outdoor shots went to an abandoned ex-RAF base to capture rawer, more emotional shots. We also had the amazing opportunity to visit Coachella Valley, California, the location for the 24hr road race championships, where we would be photographing early 2012 24hr world record holder Anna Mei in action.

The third challenge was how to add a design to the brand and brochure that differentiated the company from its competitors. This is where our initial ideas of the Bauhaus movement came in, a design movement that is growing increasingly popular in the current design world trends, but is rare, if not non-existent, in the industry for which we were designing.

By ICG Creative Director Steve Law

When we began to design the new ICG product catalogue, our aim was to make the design refreshing and inviting. We had to encompass ICG’s philosophy and ensure the catalog included the product portfolio of the company.

This got the Design Team thinking how we could take a brand that is recognised as fast-evolving and rapidly changing, but createa strong brand image.

THINKINg IN ReLATIONSHIpS.”LASZLO MOHOLY-NAgY

The Bauhaus school approach to design and the combination of fine arts proved to be a major influence in the development of graphic design, as well as much of 20th century modern art. The school favoured simplified forms, rationality, functionality, and the idea that mass production can live in harmony with the artistic spirit of individuality. The design movement was characterised and defined by geometric functional shapes consisting of squares, rectangles, bars, horizontals and verticals, extreme contrast in type size and weight, type and picture sizes to the same column widths, open compositions on implied grid systems, and introductions of flush left / rag right typography.

After studying in particular the works of Laszlo Moholy-Nagy (an innovator designing in the Bauhaus movement era), we felt that we could bring this influence into the design of the catalogue you are reading now. This design movement was also characterised by the color red, use of which was a trend set by Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, and was founded in Germany, the country in which ICG was born. This seemed congruentand so the designing commenced.

As you will have seen from the catalogue’s design, roughly 6 different design layouts are spread across the 116 pages, each one taking its inspiration from Bauhaus. We have used simple, solid blocks of color alongside double-page images in the product section pages, and more intricately designed article pages, using 10 degree sheared blocks of text against single-page images. All pages incorporate the brand palette of black, grey and red and the photography of emotions, in bike shots and outdoor disciplines.

As a team, we feel everything has come together as one unit. Finally we have a brand catalogue that incorporates all ICG products, knowledge and philosophy, a place, an item that acts as our very own bible.
