Tom as an angry young man

Though Tom is a ideal hero, but he has many bad sides. And an ideal hero should not have any bad sides.

His birth is out of wedlock as he is an illegitimate child. He is not welcomed by everyone and does not belong to any class. He is just an individual to survive.

Once squire Allworthy finds an infant and inquires about it. Squire comes to know about Jenny Jones but she is forced to accept that she is the mother of that illegitimate child.

Allworthy is affectionate for Tom, but captain Bilfil dislikes him.

When Tom is 14 years old, he become dishonest and status doing robbery. But he steals for a good cause. He helped the needy family of Allworthy’s gamekeeper.

Tom and the gamekeeper are once caught for killing a bird but Tom is noble as he refuses to tell that the gamekeeper has killed the bird because if he told the name then he would have been thrown out of the job.

Tom is so much good that he helps the starving family of George and in order to help, sells his things and gifts.

Tom loves Sophia and she loves him too. He gives her gifts but Bilfil is jealous and releases a bird that tom has gifted Sophia.

Molly is the daughter of Black George and many a times seduces Tom. After sometime she becomes pregnant.

Whenever Squire visits Tom, he is concerned for Tom and along with him brings Sophia. But he does not want to marry Sophia to Tom instead he wants to marry her to ‘one of the richest men in the country’.

Tom is thrown out of house with 500 pounds when Allworthy comes to know about Tom and Sophia. Then Tom goes to London and faces many problems.

There he stays in a inn and once Sophia also comes to stay in that inn and Sophia comes to know that Tom was in bed with a wench. She becomes angry.

Though Tom keeps relation with many women but his true love is Sophia. Wherever in London tom stays, people treat him kindly but he does not remain at one place for a longer period.

When he comes to know that he has been making love with a lady who is his mother, he feels guilty and says that “ I myself is the cause of all misery. All the grateful mischief which have been fallen, we are the consequences only of my folly n vice.”

Tom’s use of the word ‘consequences’ here is the first instance of a recognition of a casual relationship between events.

CONCLUSION

Whatever happens, the society blames him for it. Not everyone loves him and is mostly ignored by everyone.

When the society behaves abnormally with him though his intention is not wrong. Then how can one expect from tom to behave normally towards society.
