Mi Familia Vota, based inPhoenix, said it will spend $7million on get-out-the-votemeasures and an additional$3 million on digital and tele-vision ads, starting in Arizonaand Florida.

Arizona in particular is seenas a battleground because ofshifting demographics in thetraditionally Republicanstate. Hispanics are a growingproportion of the electorate.

The campaign comesamid rising concerns aboutLatino turnout in a year whenthat community has been hitparticularly hard by thecoronavirus. Latinos accountfor higher rates of infectionfrom COVID-19 when com-pared to their share of the popu-lation in a number of states,and many are struggling fi-nancially from lost jobs andlower wages.

Because each campusmust develop policies andprocedures related toCOVID-19 testing,new Guidance forCOVID-19 Testing at In-stitutions of HigherEducation was also re-leased to help institutionstailor their testing plan totheir community and de-velop policies related tothe isolation of symptom-atic students, faculty, andstaff members.

K-12 AND HIGHEREDUCATION FUND-ING: To help K-12schools and institutions ofhigher education addressincreasing costs associatedwith the COVID-19 safetymeasures, GovernorDeWine and leaders of theOhio General Assemblyare requesting that the OhioControlling Board approvean initial request on Mon-day to allocate $200 mil-lion for higher educationand $100 million for K-12schools from theCoronavirus Relief Fund.

“This funding comesfrom federal CARES Actdollars to help schoolsmeet their unique indi-vidual needs,” saidDeWine. “We intend forthis funding to be veryflexible to prevent thespread of COVID-19.”

The funding would beavailable to all public andprivate schools and for alltwo and four-year collegesand universities, both pub-lic and private, includingadult career techproviders.

The funding request isin addition to the morethan $440 million in directfederal CARES Act fund-ing that Ohio K-12 schoolsare receiving and the morethan $190 million in directfederal funding providedto Ohio’s colleges anduniversities.

HOMELESSNESSGRANT: DeWine an-nounced that he is award-ing an additional grant of$15 million to the Coali-tion on Homelessness andHousing in Ohio.

The funds will be usedto support homelessnessprevention efforts and rap-idly rehouse individualsand families experiencinghomelessness who couldbe at greater risk of con-tracting COVID-19, espe-cially those in congregatefacilities such as homelessshelters.

The grant funding is inaddition to a $1 milliongrant that GovernorDeWine award the coali-tion in April which helped

to keep hundreds of Ohio-ans safely housed duringthe pandemic.

IMAP LAUNCH: Lt.Governor Husted an-nounced the launch of theIndividual Micro-creden-tial Assistance Program(IMAP) which will pro-vide $2.5 million ingrants to help unem-ployed Ohioans earn in-demand, technology-fo-cused credentials that willgive them a leg up in find-ing a job in the increas-ingly tech-focusedeconomy.

The grant applicationis open to training provid-ers, such as universities,colleges, Ohio technicalcenters, or private sectortraining businesses. Train-ing providers who receiveawards will be reimbursedup to $3,000 for eachcompleted technology-fo-cused credential issuedand up to $250,000 perprovider.

The program was cre-ated in partnership withthe Ohio House ofRepresentatives. Trainingproviders interested in ap-plying can find more in-formation at IMAP.Development.Ohio.gov.

Participating employersagree to reduce the af-fected employees’ hoursby a uniform percentage,between 10 percent and50 percent, for up to 52weeks. In return, thoseemployees receiveSharedWork compensa-tion (which is a proratedunemployment benefit)and, while federally avail-able, may also receive thePandemic UnemploymentCompensation benefiteach week.
