The residents occupied their stands in 2012 and they allege that they were promised that their houses are going to be built soon but since then they have been living in shacks. The stands have ablution facilities and water taps built. Phumelele Nkani, a concerned resident said, “We are concerned that the houses are built on empty stands which are not occupied by people. We are still residing in shacks and they have forgotten about us. There are allegations that these newly built houses are built for other people not us. We are worried that they are not using the money allocated to build our houses. They have not even shown us a show house; hence plans of houses built are not being approved by us as previously agreed. There is no development on our stands since we started occupying the area.” He added that they are also appealing for electricity in their stands. “We have electrical gadgets to use but the challenge is electricity. Winter is around the corner and we reside next to a river and electricity will help to warm ourselves,” said Nkani. Speaking to tame TIMES, Velile Gladstone Zide , Ward Councillor said, “We will build houses on all 860 stands in the area. We have started with the other stands that are not occupied by people to build houses for elderly, people with disabilities and orphans. The people who are occupying the stands will still have their houses built at any given time as they have occupied the stands, so that they cannot be taken from them.” Shack dwellers tired of being on waiting list Charity Moyo [email protected] Phumelele Nkani, a concerned resident showing off the new built house for elderly, orphans and people with disabilities. The Kathorus Taverns Soccer League which is not South African Football Asso-ciation (Safa) affiliate recently hosted its inaugural Top Eight Soccer Tournament at Thokoza Extension Soccer Grounds. Each team paid a minimum of R500 as a joining fee and the winner takes all principle applied to all partaking teams. Speaking to tame TIMES, the event organ-iser Thokozane Zondo said, “We started launching the Kathorus Taverns Soccer League in March and the membership con-tinue to grow. Every week we will be host-ing a top eight tournaments where teams will be battling out for number one spot. Our top eight competitions will circulate around Kathorus townships aimed unearthing talent and keeping patrons fit at all times. Our age limit is between 35-years-old and above. The objective of these top eight tournaments is to create a competitive team that will rep-resent Kathorus region when we compete against the best teams from various town-ships across the province.”In the recent inaugural top eight final played between Motswala Tavern Soccer team and Extension Two Tavern soccer team, the latter won by 2-1.
