1. The Use of Video Games by Kindergartners in a Family Child Care Setting

o Purpose of the study:This study contributes to the existing literature by (1) focusing on video game use by young children (kindergartners), (2) taking an in-depth look at the nature of children’s interactions during video game play, and (3) studying video game usage within the context of the children’s natural child care environment

o The instruments:The original instrument in this study was observation. To observe children’s play in order to learn more about how they negotiated their social relationships with one another

2.Effect of Computer-Based Video Games on Children: An Experimental Study

o Technology:• Computer-Based Video Games

• Motivate, challenge, increase curiosity and control, and promote fantasy in children.

o Sample:• The chosen participants were from a middle/high socio-economic standard school district in Tainan City, Taiwan.

One hundred and eight third-graders participated in the study, 61 male students and 54 female students. The learning prerequisite for participants was the ability to use basic computer tools and Internet-browsing resources

o The Results:• Results indicate that computer-based video game playing not only improves• participants’ fact/recall processes (F = 5.288, p < .05), but also promotes problem-solving skills by recognizing

multiple solutions for problems (F = 5.656, p < .05).
