Sample Answer to Question 1

Personally speaking, I don’t like surprises, especially a surprise visit because I may not have enough

time to welcome my friends. I like to follow a plan without interruption. If a friend wants to visit my

house, I need to clean up my room and prepare the food for a decent meal. Sometimes, a well-

intended surprise visit may end up with embarrassment. Last week, I invited a bunch of friends to

my birthday party at my place except my girlfriend, because she had told me about a business trip.

We were having fun drinking and playing games, and the music was very loud. Then my girlfriend

knocked on the door, but no one heard her which was really awkward.

Sample Answer to Question 2

If I were the tutor, I’d take my students to a local farm for sure. With the great leap forward of

urbanization, most kids may unwittingly lose the opportunity to have a close experience with

nature. I couldn’t remember how many times I threw out the question “Tell me about your

favorite plant” without responses from kids. My students find it tough to answer the question

from their daily experiences. They are not able to list typical features of plants or even tell their

names! So I think my students would love to have a chance to get closer to those creatures and

get to know about nature.

Sample Answer to Question 3

Personally speaking, taking additional courses shouldn’t be encouraged in school. To begin with,

the purpose of attending school is not just limited to credits and degrees. If students have extra

time and energy, they could spend time reading extensively as well as intensively on areas they

are interested in. Besides, they can also participate in all sorts of seminars to learn from

experienced professors and peers. School is a wonderful place to meet people and appreciate

the beauty of differences. Spending time on things you truly like is way better than only getting

credits.

Sample Answer to Question 4

12

I would prefer no pets in dorms. A dorm is supposed to be a quiet place, where students can

get some rest after a whole day’s study. If one insists on keeping pets in the dorm, it could be

very messy and noisy. Some people are allergic to pets’ hairs. So for the sake of those people,

pets should not be allowed in the dorm. Additionally, it costs a lot for a student to go to

college so she should prioritize her role as a student and maintain a good grade. Keeping pets

in the dorm could distract her. All in all, it is better to keep pets in one’s own house.
