Nilabas kahapon ng Punong-bayan & Araullo (P&A), lokal nakatuwang ng Grant Thornton, angserbey na nagpakitang 82 porsyen-to ng mga Pilipinong respondentang maganda ang pananaw sasusunod na 12 buwan.

Nagtala ang Peru ng confidenceindex na 90 porsyento, 86porsyento ang sa Brazil at 84porsyento ang sa UAE.

Kasunod ng Pilipinas sa talaangpandaigdig ang Georgia (78porsyento), India (74 porsyento),Chile (68 porsyento), Alemanya(64 porsyento) at Mexico (62porsyento).

Mas mataas pa ang antas ngPilipinas kaysa Estados Unidos (46porsyento), Tsina (23 porsyento),Thailand (8 porsyento) at Singa-pore (2 porsyento).

Samantala, mas maraming pes-simist kaysa optimist sa Gresya(-52 prosyento) at Hapon (-53porsyento).

That beautiful moment whenI won came at the right time. Iam more secure about my job,and the most important thingfor me now is to give hope andinspiration to everybody who

needs it. I prayed that I wouldbring back something not onlyfor myself but for all Filipinos

who continue to believe in whatartists can do. I feel more self-less and have a genuine con-cern on how I can possibly helpupgrade the industry in my ownunique and small way.

Are good thespians like youborn and not made?

Everybody has a gift. Someare developed. But the truly

gifted are born with it. But theyshould never take it for granted.Acting workshops can help, but

practice and exposure andtraining constitute the real deal.

Your background in theaterhas helped you a lot. How is

acting on stage different fromacting in film? Which is morechallenging?

Both are equally challenging.The stage is an actors medium

while film is a directors medi-um. I find fulfillment in both. Iam challenged both by theproper way of moving onstageand how to act in front of thecamera. I constantly refine mytechniques.

I find it sad that theater ac-

tors here are not paid asmuch as movie stars. What do

you think should be done tomake stage plays more mar-ketable especially for themasses?

Oh, good question! Id liketo share with you the goodnews! I am doing a play withPETA. We will do the stage ver-sion ofLino Brockas Bona.The rights to this film areowned by Nora Aunor and I am

forever grateful for her trust,support and love. She hassigned already, so tuloy na tu-

loy na! I will be with a very hotactor now whom I sense is veryserious about his craft! I am

very excited! Popular actorsshould bring themselves to per-form onstage so their followers

will have a ch ance to see themlive in action. This will arousecuriosity and eventually attractmore people to watch theaterproductions.

It doesnt stop with beinggifted. You have to share yourgift. No one is more amazing

The number of workinghours! I hope actors, especiallythe veterans and the bigger

stars, unite to implement amaximum number of workinghours for everybody. We are on-ly human, after all. Fortunately,I have a cutoff, not because I

want to be stariraybut becausemy brain shuts down after10 p.m.! I am a day person.

None in particular. Althoughit thrills me to learn a new di-alect or language. In Kimmy Do-

EUGENE Domingo is on a roll. Despite havingbagged a number of acting awards, Uges notone to sit on her laurels. I love how she outdoes

herself in every movie she makes.

was dull and the scope of itoverexposed. Today, with afew more years of understand-ing, I can say the same thingsare still truebut now I rec-ognize that that was the point.

Sometimes were okay witha little melodrama (Downton

Abbeyfan here). Sometimeswe just want the main charac-ter to survive. For what is Ti-tanic (the film), but a roman-tic fantasy told with a hugesplash?

The characters are flat,saved by the magnetism of

Winslet who earned an Oscar

nomination for her efforts. Di-Caprio played himselfas aboy, minus the complexities heis able to convey these days.James Cameron, king of thefilmmaking world, never quitecould write better than, You

jump, I jump. Avatar, thebiggest box office behemothof all time (title previouslyheld byTitanic), had the samedialogue and character (act-ing!) issues.

The magic is in the editing,because we feel it. We feel it

when we first see the sunkenship underwater, and a fewmoments later, we see it in itsfull glory. We feel Roses fears,hear Jacks laughter and thensee the iceberg. The entirescene of the sinkinga long

sequence of intercuts between

Jack and Rose's determinationto survive, jaw-droppingscenes of destruction andchaos, and moments of quiet(sometimes poetic like thestring quartet, sometimes out-right clichd or manipulativelike the old couple huddlingon their bed as the watersrushed in)is thoroughlygripping, probably enhancedby the 3D conversion.

Titanic may well be one ofthe few good arguments tosee a film in a theater. Those

who saw the film at home invideo or through cable maynot have experienced it the

way it should have been. Thedifference lies with the sharedanger or a collective gasp thatcan only be experienced in the

church of cinema.
