Its starting. There is a momen-tum. And I think we have to keepthis momentum. This is going to in-crease, Im sure. There is plenty ofroom to increase the relationsofcourse there is cultural relations, butalso in the field of trade, in the fieldof politics, also the exchange of stu-dents between universities, aniGarachon sa gilid ng pagdiriwangng Embahada ng Pransiya sa BastilleDay sa tahanan niya sa Makati City.

French people... see the geog-raphy very linked to history. And ifa country has historical links withFrance, then it appears on themap. But for the Philippines, wenever had any historical connec-tion. Not at all. So for French peo-ple, the Philippines is just a ques-tion mark, ani Garachon.

So part of my job and part ofthe job of the ambassador of thePhilippines in Paris is to makeFrench people discover moreabout the Philippines, aniya.

May tatlong-buwang eksibit angPilipinas sa Quai Branly Museumsa Paris upang maitanim ang bansasa kamalayan ng mga Pranses.

    Uge on kissing Iza

I fell in love with Juns film.

He wrote and directed MKB. Iadmit it could be the highlight, not just of my year but of my

whole career as an actress, Ugesays, beaming. It was difficultbut truly rewarding for me as aperson, and as a Filipina.

The movie revolves aroundthe free-spirited and newly-wid-owed Marilou (portrayed byUge) who inherits the townsonly barber shop from her hus-band. With no other means of

    support, she musters the

courage to run the shop. De-spite the skills she has devel-oped from years of assisting herhusband, she fails to attract cus-tomers. Things take an unex-pected turn when she gains thetrust of the women in her com-munity. She changes the destinyof her town mates.

Uges kissing scene with IzaCalzado in the film will defi-nitely create a stir. The kissing[scene] with Iza was a breeze,

Uge says. We kissed manytimes for the shots. We had tobe careful moving because we

were on the edge of a cliff. There were many other high-lights in that scene aside fromthe kissing that the viewersshould look forward to.

Bravo, Uge, for treading un-charted waters which other ac-tors might not even bring them-

selves to try.KathNiel back on TV

Kathryn Bernardo andDaniel Padilla are set to en-chant viewers anew in ABS-CBNs most romantic series, Gotto Believe (premieres thismonth). Daniel plays a spoiledrich kid (Joaquin), whileKathryn portrays a simple girl

with big dreams for her family(Chichay).

    Daniel is undoubtedly

the hottest teen heartthrobthese days. The KathNiellove team makes you feellike a blushing high-schoolstudent all over again.

Amid the hustle and bustleof the daily grind, its sorefreshing to watch these

    young actors as they recap-

ture for us, even just vicariously, that giddy puppy love.

Heres my tete-a tete withDaniel. Read on and swoon

How is your new seriessimilar to the hit movie ofClaudine Barretto and Rico

Yan, Got2Believe?It takes a more modern ap-

proach and the scenes getlighter treatment.

How has your relationshipwith Kathryn blossomed sinceyour first teamup?

We have both matured interms of acting, and Kathrynhas become even more specialto me now. Every moment Ispend with her is magical.

Should ABS-CBN decide tobreak up your love team withKathryn, how would you feel?

I know we will have to rein-vent ourselves one day, and we

will be paired with others. I justhope that, even if our screenpartners change, our great rela-tionship will remain intact. We

will see to it [that we will] notget jealous of the new screenpartners because its just work.

And we must give it our bestshot in order to fulfill all our

    dreams.Whats the advantage and

disadvantage of being thenephew of Robin Padilla?

Theres no disadvantage atall. Being his nephew is a plusfactor for me. But I want tohave my own identity.

If you had to give up

singing or acting, which onewould you choose?

Thats one choice I hope Inever have to make. I love mysupporters in both my singingand acting careers so, as long asthey want me, Ill keep giving itmy all. Id rather have the bestof both worlds.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 10, 2013 5FEATURESRomance between distant relatives

the fact that I lovehim. I decided to giveit all a try. I know its

very awkward butwhat can I do? Its thechance Ive been wait-ing for, Joe. Thechance to finally have

Nelson. I can feel thathe is sincere with hisfeelings but some-times, I have doubtsand insecurities.

He told me hed beback next year and hepromised me that he

would prove to methat he is indeed seri-ous. And maybe then,

well find out if weare really meant tobe. Joe, I love him, Ireally do. But is therereally a chance forthis kind of relation-ship? Please enlightenme.

    Sincerely,Leen

LEEN,I wish you had beenmore specific when you

    said you were re lated

    to each other.You are not

    second or

third cousins, arent you? Iam assumingthat being dis-tant relativeswouldnt be

much of an issue here.As lo ng as you are notclosely related, thenthere would probablybe no rule that would

prohibit you from get-ting into a serious re-

    lationship with eachother.What concerns me

more are the doubtsand insecurity that

you feel right n ow. Iunderstand how diffi-cult it is to completelytrust someone with

your feelings. Commit-ment exposes ourweaknesses and makesus vulnerable. Andwhen our defenses aredown, we are most

    susceptible to gettinghurt.

But, lo ve is a g am-ble, they say. It is like

getting into a darkroom without reallyknowing what to ex-

pect. There are nopromises he re. Lo ve isonly as good as it is

    felt. The mo ment the

DEAR Joe,It all began with a guy named Nelson.

I only knew Nelson as my sisters class-mate in grade school. Also, he was astar player in the basketball team.

I first met himthree years ago, and I

was instantly trans-fixed with his smile. But I discovered soonenough that we weredistant relatives, andthat left me disap-pointed.

    At the time, Nel-

son had Gie, anotherone of my distantrelatives but Nelsonsmother never ap-proved of her. I re-member one time

when they have tosecretly meet at myaunts house. I wasalways there and Iswear, I hated it.

Later, Nelson wentabroad to work. I feltbad but thankfully, I

was able to get hisnumber and sincethen I started send-ing him texts. Andthen news reachedme that Gie marrieda foreigner. I knewfrom the start that it

    was marriag e forconvenience.

Nelson heardabout it and I couldfeel that he was hurt.

I comforted him and Idont know what real-ly happened betweenthem but somehow I

    was happy.Then another news

shocked us. Gie gotpregnant with anoth-er man. Nelson toldme he wasnt hurt. He

was bitter, but he in-sisted that he was fi-nally over Gie. Joe,

for three years wetexted each other. Itwas fun, and we be-came real close eventhough were milesapart.

He would alwaystell me that the mo-ment he gets back toManila, hed go out

with me on a date.Id laugh wheneverhed say that, but re-

    ally, my heart hoped

for it. Joe, maybe Imbeing selfish butfrankly, I was so hap-py that Nelson andGie didnt end up to-gether.

    And then Nelsoncame back.

I was really hopinghed call me. He

promised hed go outon a date with me assoon as he gets back, and naturally, I heldon to that. I was a to-tal wreck because I

was really nervousnot knowing what toexpect. But he didcall me. He said he

was looking forwardto meet me. It was

weird, Joe. The feel-ing was somethingIve never felt before.

Neither rain norstorm could hold usboth from meetingeach other, Joe.When I saw him, Iexpected myself toact naturally, but Ididnt. I was actuallyreally nervous, I canhardly breathe. Icant look into hiseyes for fear that he

might read what I re-ally felt for him. Joe,at that moment Iknew I really lovedhim. He told metheres something he

wanted to say to m e.And then he admittedthat he liked me, buthe was still worriedabout us being dis-tant relatives. I neversaid anything, but I

knew my actionsgave away what I tru-ly felt for him.

Three days afterNelson left the coun-try, I received a mes-sage from him. Hetold me his feelingsfor me again. He toldme that he loves me,and that if I could on-ly give him a chance,

    we could be lovers.

    Joe, I cant deny

feeling dies, then lovewithers with it. It is arisk everyone takes, for

without it, there is re-ally no chance of expe-riencing how beautifullove can be.

I have alwa ys saidtime and again thatthe people who areready to love are the

peo ple who are read yto be hurt because ofit. They are the onesready to take thechance and fight for

what they feel. Theyare the ones who putfea rs behi nd thei rlonging for compan-ionship. They are theones who are readyto accept the uncer-tainty of love andready to take the

pro mise it brin gs.There is no reward tothose who fear beingin love. It is the mere

fee lin g of lov e thatgiv es hop e to many ofus and it is this hopethat will see usthrough until wereach the end of our
