Today’s Scripture:

2 Timothy 4:10

2 Timothy 4:10 for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica—Crescens for Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia.

Committed:• tightly connected too• do not breakup• receive divine authority

As young Christians we must choose to be committed to:

• Our God• His church• His shepherd.

Committed to God.• John 15:5 “I am the vine, you are

the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Committed to His church.• Psalms 20:2 May He send you

help from the sanctuary, And strengthen you out of Zion;

Committed to His Shepherd.• Jeremiah 3:15 And I will give you

shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.

• In our text we have an example of an uncommitted follower.

• Demas was a fellow laborer of Paul.• Demas forsake Paul (deserted,

abandoned, left alone)

Uncommitted:• to easily disconnect• to breakup without resistance• to reject divine authority

Demas was an uncommitted follower because he loved the world.• 2 Timothy 4:10 for Demas has forsaken

me, having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica

• 1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

• 1 John 2:17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

• If we are going to avoid being an uncommitted follower we must love properly.

• Love: commitment; doing what’s best

Biblical ways a committed follower

manifest love

#1) Keeps the Word.• Keeps: to practice and protect• John 14:23-24 Jesus answered and said to

him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.

#2) Fulfills their divine assignment.• Fulfills: takes seriously and completes• John 21:16 He said to him again a

second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Tend My sheep.”

#3) Loves their brother.• Love: to do what’s best• 1 John 4:21 And this commandment

we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.

• John 13:35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
