We have found out a lot about two intrepid explorers over the last few lessons!

It was both of them! Both men were welcomed home as heroes when they

returned from their voyages.

Today we are going to be comparing the lives and achievements of Christopher Columbus and Neil

Armstrong.

What does it mean to compare two people?

Comparing people means thinking about what is the same about them and what is different about them.

How many things can you think of that are different about Columbus and Armstrong?

How did they travel?

What did they find? Where were they from?

Columbus was born in Italy but Armstrong was born in

America.

Columbus was born in 1451. Armstrong wasn’t born until

1930.

Columbus didn’t go to school but Armstrong did.

Columbus travelled on a ship whereas Armstrong travelled in

a spacecraft.

It took Columbus 5 weeks to reach America. It took Armstrong 4 days to

reach the moon.

Columbus used a compass to help him navigate. Armstrong

used a computer.

Columbus brought back new foods. Armstrong brought back

rocks and soil.

Columbus discovered a place no one in Europe knew about. Everyone knew

where the moon was!
