A History of CommitmentSouthern Steel Company, founded in 1897, has a tradition of excellence and quality in productdesign, materials and craftsmanship. In 1994, as the industry’s need for electronic technologygrew, Southern Steel created a separate division specializing in electronic security and integrationfor detention applications.

In 2005, following the acquisition of Folger Adam Security, Inc., these two industry pioneers, withcenturies of combined detention manufacturing experience, merged to form Southern FolgerDetention Equipment Company.

As a newly unified company, we dedicated ourselves to the Security Electronics Division and itssearch for more efficient means and logical avenues for producing integrated electronic systems.

Today, we remain committed to providing solutions for this unique correctional environment byoffering high security products combined with services specialized for the industry. SouthernFolger Detention Equipment Company has the expertise to design not only control of detentionlocking systems, but also control of many other integrated systems including video, intercom,access, alarms, utilities and perimeter security.

Design and EngineeringWe work closely with architects, engineers and owners to determine the specific requirementsand provide system options and value engineered designs for optimum flexibility, alwaysconsidering the fast paced operation of a detention facility.

Applications Development and IntegrationThe programmers and applications developers work with both hardware and software to integratethe various systems into a single, optimized control center based on facility specification, design,and conditions. They provide solutions for flexibility of operation and can input new technologiesinto existing systems. The result is an intuitive, operational control system for ease of use by thecorrectional officers.

Production and TestingSouthern Folger manufactures, assembles and tests all engineered systems to keep installationtime to a minimum. 100% of the production of our systems is completed in our factory and allsystems undergo a rigorous multi-phased testing process that ensures proper system operationonce installed. Owners are invited to the factory to participate in the final testing to ensure allexpectations are met.

Installation and ServiceFactory-trained specialists perform and supervise all on-site installations. After the sale, a full-time staff of service technicians are available to answer questions during and after the warrantyperiod and provide service as needed. Our goal is complete customer satisfaction before, duringand after the sale.

8000 Series Control SystemDesigned for small to medium sized applicationswhere local control without full system integrationis desired. Built around the Southern Folger8410C Relay Card, the most versatile relay logicboard on the market today, the system is availablewith a wide variety of optional special functions.Units come completely wired with internal powersupplies, fully tested and ready to connect to fieldwiring and power. Mounting options includestandard rack, turret or custom design.

9000 Series Control SystemTransitional, non-proprietary PLC-basedprogrammable, remote control system with theflexibility of programmed controls in a system thatis comparably priced to a relay control system.This cost-effective solution is flexible in the rangeof operations and can be easily modified,enhanced or altered, even after installation, asoperating conditions change or additional controlpoints are added. Minimal programming requiredfor changes. Offers options not available in a relaybased system, such as computer-based operatorinterface. Controls can be expanded to allowunlimited inputs and outputs with the addition ofnetworked PLC modules.

Fully Integrated Control SystemA fully customizable control system, designedspecifically for the needs of the correctional facilitywith a PLC backbone. Offers various interfacesincluding touch screen, mouse, mobile, or panels.Features include central control and local controlstations for direct supervision, building layout foreasy navigation, audit trail report generator, useraccess management, menu bars for activityidentification, and intuitive screen navigationicons. This integrated system provides a singlesource of control for operation of cell and corridordoors, group/emergency release of doors, accesscontrols, watch tour settings, intercom andpaging, camera and recording, utility and HVACfunctions, fire annunciation, personal alarm, andperimeter security.
