HELPFUL hints & TIPSKeysThere is not a key to your room. We use the safe, convenient Schlage keypad deadbolt system. To Unlock: Enter the 4-digit guest code you were

given and turn the deadbolt toward the door hinges.

To Lock: Press the oval “Schlage” button on top of the keypad and turn the deadbolt toward the door jamb or enter the code and turn the deadbolt.

You may need to jiggle the door when locking and unlocking to allow the deadbolt to line up correctly.

Porch LightYour porch light has a regular switch just inside the door. It should be in the “on” position when you arrive. Our porch lights have a sensor that turns them on automatically at dusk (if the switch is on). They will then turn off automatically 5 hours after they come on (about 10:30 p.m. in the winter and midnight in the summer).

If you want to turn off your porch light earlier than this, use the switch inside the door. Just remember to turn the switch back on before you leave the next morning so your porch light will come on at dusk so you’re not left in the dark.

Water HeatersThe black switch for the hot water heater is located on the wall in the kitchen behind the microwave. When you arrive, it should already be turned to the “on” position. In the event you do not have hot water in your cabin, make sure that the switch did not inadvertently get turned to the “off” or “down” position. If it did, turn it on and it will take around 30 minutes for hot water to be available. When you check out, please turn off your hot water heater for us. This will help us to conserve electricity.

Ceiling FansTurn them on and off with the long pull chains that are hanging down. There are four positions: off, high, medium, low. There is not a switch for ceiling fans.

WiFiWe have free WiFi at the NRS Event Center and Guest Ranch. For the arena area and bunkhouses, please connect to “NRS Guest” - no password. If you are in the cabin area, connect to “Sandhill” - password is Sandhill - as shown with a capital ‘S’.

Dish Network HD Satellite TVBoth the TV and the satellite work off the “Dish” remote. The large button on top of the remote turns the dish receiver on and off. The small red button labeled “TV” turns your TV on and off. We are only subscribed to a basic HD service including the ESPN channels. Pay per view is not available. The actual Dish box is mounted out of sight.

Whirlpool TubYour master bathroom is equipped with a wonderful whirlpool tub. Depress the large white button switch to turn on and off. Make sure the water level is above the jets before turning it on. Try not to add soap or shampoo before or while using the whirlpool as you will quickly be overwhelmed with bubbles.

Furnishings & ArtMany of the items that we have furnished the cabin with are from the NRS Ranch Store.

Some of the art in the cabins are original paintings by Ernie Lewis. Ernie is the local “fence builder” who also happens to be an incredible western artist. Ernie built most of the fencing here on the ranch. Any of Ernie’s paintings can be purchased. He will also paint a picture of whatever you like. If you have a great horse, action shot, ranch or family picture, Ernie will paint it for you at a very reasonable rate. You can contact him at 817-266-8154.

Upstairs Sleeping LoftBe very careful going up and down the stairs to the loft. The ceiling is very low in the loft, so watch your head.

Creekside PatioStepping stones lead from your front porch to the creekside patio. This is a great place to enjoy your morning coffee. There is also a state park style charcoal grill near the patio for your grilling use. Please do your best to clean the grill after use.

PetsYou are welcome to have your dog in the cabin with you. However, please do not let the dog on any of the furniture or the beds. We recommend that you bring your dog’s regular bed and place it on the floor where he will be comfortable. We charge a $50.00 Non-refundable pet fee for all pets. An additional $50 charge will be assessed after your departure if dog hair is found on the furniture or bedding. Outdoor kennels are also available for your pet’s use. The kennels are located between the cabins.

HousekeepingYour rooms have been prepared with enough linens and supplies for your stay. However, if you are in need of extra items or linens during your stay, please do not hesitate to ask in the NRS Event Center and Guest Ranch office located by The Cookhouse on the arena patio. They will contact housekeeping to take care of your needs. Please clean your kitchen before you check out and place all kitchen items back in the correct cabinets and drawers. When you have checked out and are leaving, please place your trash in one of the three large dumpsters located by the arena area. A $25 charge will be assessed if dirty dishes are left after you leave or if trash is left in the cabin.

Exploring & WalkingOur ranch is your ranch while you are staying with us. Feel free to explore the creeks, woods, pastures and hilltops. The ranch is a great place to see Texas wildlife including deer, turkey, raccoons, possums, rabbits, squirrels, skunks, bobcats, armadillos and dozens of varieties of wild birds. You are highly likely to see each of these on any given day. If you go through a gate, please leave it as you found it. If it is closed, leave it closed after passing through and vice versa if it is open. Please do not enter if gate has a “Do Not Enter” sign.

Horses & TrailersThe Shade Tree Cabin area was not designed for horses and trailers. Please do not ride or lead your horses into the cabin area and please unhook your trailer in the main parking area. The driveways and parking areas are very small and there are many sprinkler heads that can be damaged by riding horses across them or by trailers running over them.
