To review for tomorrow’s quiz, play this review game. Use your checklist as you
play! Ch.1-1 Motion
Instructions
To play:
◦Read the question slide. ◦Wait until everyone in your group has an answer
written down.◦Click the power point to the next slide and
reveal the answer. ◦ If you got the answer correct, great going! Check
that off of your list. ◦ If you got the answer incorrect, be sure to write
the correct answer on your worksheet quickly!
Question 1: Velocity
Define velocity
Answer 1: Velocity
Velocity is the speed of an object in a particular direction.
Question 2: Reference Points
Choose the reference point(s) in the following sentence. ◦First, you walk 2 meters and make a right at
the McDonalds. Then you follow the arrows on the sidewalk to the yellow house on the left.
Answer 2: Reference Points
McDonaldsArrowsSidewalkYellow House
Question 3: Motion
Define Motion.
Answer 3: Motion
Motion is an objects change in position relative to a reference point.
Question 4: Motion
Explain how two cars in a race can be used as reference points.
Answer 4: Motion
If two cars are racing each other, you can tell how fast each car is going relative to the other. ◦For example if there is a red car and a blue car
in a race, I can tell that the blue car is winning because it is well in front of the red car (reference point). This tells me that the blue car is moving faster in reference to the red car. S

Question 5: Speed
Define speed.
Answer 5: Speed
Speed is the distance traveled by an object divided by the time during which the motion occurred.
Question 6: Speed
In the graph below, label the x and y axis if we were representing speed.

The speed is increasing in the graph because, as time goes by, the distance the car travels is increasing as well.
Question 8: Acceleration
Define acceleration.
Answer 8: Acceleration
Acceleration is the rate at which velocity changes over time.
Question 9: Acceleration
When does an object accelerate?
Answer 9: Acceleration
An object accelerates when it changes speed, direction, or both.
Question 10: Resultant Velocity
Solve for the resultant velocity.◦ A dog is in a car traveling at a velocity of 87
m/s North. The dog runs to the front of the car with a velocity of 2 m/s. What is the dogs’ resultant velocity?
Answer 10: Resultant Velocity
87m/s N + 2m/s N = 89 m/s North
You add the two velocities together because they are going in the same direction.
You know to add and not to use velocity=distance/time because we were not given data for distance or time.(be sure to read the word problems carefully to see what we are solving for)
Question 11: Acceleration
A car is moving at a rate of 62 m/s south and accelerates at a rate of 6.0 m/s/s. What is the final velocity of the car after 4.0 seconds? Choose the correct formula.
a= v2 - v1 v2 = v1+ a(t) d=s(t) t
t= v2 - v1 v=d s=d
a t t d=s(v)
Answer 11: Acceleration
Looking for: final velocity Solution
X = 62 + (4)(6)
X= 62 + 24
X= 86 m/s S
Given:
V2 = X
V1 = 62 m/s S
t = 4 s
a = 6 m/s/sFormula
V2= V1 + (a)(t)
A car is moving at a rate of 62 m/s south and accelerates at a rate of 6.0 m/s/s. What is its final velocity of the car after 4.0 seconds?
Question 12: Acceleration
What are the two factors that determine acceleration?
Answer 12: Acceleration
Change in velocity and time or
Final Velocity, Starting Velocity, and time
(think about the formula)
Question 13: Acceleration
Is an object accelerating if it is slowing down?
Answer 13: Acceleration
Yes, an object is accelerating if it is slowing down because it is changing speed. It is negatively accelerating to be specific.
Question 14: Speed
If you travel 18 km and walk for 2.5 h, what is your average speed? Choose the correct formula.
a= v2 - v1 v2 = v1+ a(t) d=s(t) t
t= v2 - v1 v=d s=d
a t t d=s(v)
Answer 14: Speed
If you travel 18 km and walk for 2.5 h, what is your average speed?
Looking for: Speed Solution
X= 18/2.5
X= 7.2 km/h
Given
s= X
d= 18 km
t= 2.5 hFormula
s= d/t
Question 15: Reference Direction
Write as many examples of reference directions as you can think of.
Answer 15: Reference Directions
North, South, East, West, Up, Down, Left, Right, Forward, Backward, just beyond, in front of, behind, etc.
