 To Parents of Grolier children,

Once again, welcome of the world of Child-Learning.

I presume that you are a father or mother of a child or children wishing to get

hold of some boos or materials to start your child on a proper learning path

beginning with the !nglish Language, a language that the whole world simply

cannot do without or shall I call it a "corner-stone" on which to lay hands upon as

one stumbles in the process of li#ing and tra#elling in and or across this entire

world.

$s early as %riday, &'th (eptember &)*+, I chanced to lay my hands upon asample of one of the forty children story boos contained in their latest newly

launched Children !ducation Programme entitled T$LIG (TO/ 0OO( which

set is accompanied with a thumb-held digital T$LIG P!. $llow me to tell you

my brief e1perience on 2ust one of the boos and the Taling Pen.

3ith a eenness to disco#er e#erything new as lie a indergarten child recei#ing

his 4rst birthday present at school, I opened the Taling pen bo1. In an instant I

was ama5ed to 4nd out that the Taling Pen came in fully battery-charged,

without which I could well imagine how disappointed a child would be if his

mother says to him "wait son, we need to charge the pen battery 4rst". $nd if

this were the situation, the child would ha#e been distraught and lie any child

would ha#e been, he would ha#e lost his interest on the entire pac6 and that

would be a disaster to the child and lie wise his mother who too pains to

purchase it for him. 0ut "o 7", not this one. The Taling Pen was su8ciently

batter-charged to allow me to tae a try at one of the boos.

$s me if it was a thrilling e1perience 9.

/es, it was 777 The Taling Pen did read the words in the boo.

$s I placed the tip of the Taling Pen at the beginning of each sentence, it read

aloud the full sentence.

$s an e1ample, the sentence reading "I wash my face before I play" in the boo

entitled "3$T! !:!/3;!!", I could point to the coloured dots at the bottomof the page where I could learn ele#en <**= new words such as 0>00L!(, %$C!,

;$I, 3$(; CLOT;!(, 3$(;, ;$?, %$>C!T, (O$P, 3$T!, TOOT;0>(;,

TOOT;P$(T!, which words relate to the acti#ity of washing one@s face. $s I

pondered on the connecti#ity of these words to the sentence "I wash my face

before I play" and "/es Indeed 7" my heart said to myself that this is truly an

ama5ing boo which allows a child how to "thin out of the bo1" as to thin out

new words relating to an acti#ity of "3ashing my face before I play".

I too a further ad#enture into the pages of the boo and it counted twenty-4#e

<&A= pages containing **B words therein. Taing a simple $rithmetic into play, I

now multiply **B words with +) boos and I get a total of +,') words. I thought

to myself if this could be real 9. $re there really four thousand se#en hundred

and si1ty words 9. I answered to myself and said that it could not be. 3ell, I

looed and simmed again at the pages of the boo and I noticed some wordsrepeated throughout the pages of the boo and that led me to do some

discounting wor assuming that perhaps half of the words in the boo are

repeated throughout the boo that I held and the rest of the other DB boos

which gi#es me the number "&DE)". Oh, I thought to myself, what an odd

number and surely the author who designed and initiated the programme would

not ha#e settled his or her wor is such a number unless she is a "belie#er" in

the serenity of numbers. Then, I thought to myself that perhaps Grolier would

ha#e use this educational report as a guide which read " 0y the time a child

enters 4rst grade he should ha#e a minimum of &,D)) words in his #ocabulary"

and that would be the guide for any country to base its school !nglish Curriculumon. If that would be the case, then surely &,A)) would be a better number to

wor on, and, yes indeed this programme o8cially con4rmed to oFer a child the

opportunity to learn &,A)) words, which uantity would enable any non-nati#e-

!nglish child to be able to con#erse in the !nglish language eFecti#ely and

Huently whilst also being able to e1press himself or herself clearly so to mae her

point across to her listener as she intended in his or her mind.

3hat more could I 4nd out about the programme 9

!ach page is 4lled with colourful pictures and a#ails plenty of learning

opportunities.

$ child can learn and practise &,A)) words-pictures pairs in conte1t.

Coloured dots connect words with pictures to help build #ocabulary.

Placing the Taling Pen at the beginning of each sentence allows the pen to read-

aloud the sentence.

Positioning and placing the Taling Pen on the coloured dots allows the pen to

read-aloud the words so that the child can listen to the nati#e-pronunciation of

the words and repeat after the "teacher-in-the-taling-pen" and thus practise to

say and pronounce the words.

3. Pick up tile numbered 1 and look at the uncovered question.

4. Find the answer to the question on the right-hand page.

5. Cover that answer with the tile.

6. Do the same for all the 16 questions. In other words, repeat the process.

7. When you have finished the answer to the last question No. 16, close the match Frame and

turn it over.

8. Check to see if the colour pattern matches the answer pattern in the upper right hand corner

of the

lesson.

9. Bravo ! ..... You will see instantly how many questions you have answered correctly.

Page 6: To Parents of Grolier Children

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/to-parents-of-grolier-children 6/9

10. Now, check in you mind or at best keep a score of how many tiles your child has answered

correctly.

Over the time time you will ba able to sum up in your mind as to whether your child is

possessing a high,

average or a low level of intelligence.

How parents can benefit from the FUN THINKERS

set.

Fun Thinkers can be used a a way to measure the level of a child's intelligence which can be

categorised as High, Average and Low. Depending on the respective abilities of each child a

mother can roughly make an estimation in her mind as to the level of intelligence of her child as

she notices how ham=nay tiles are entered correctly. As a rough guide, a parent can categoriseher child's I.Q level with the following tiles count:

Note : The following guide is my personal opinionated guide and doses not represent the Grolier

company in

any way.

 High - 13 to 16 tiles

 Average - 9 to 12 tiles

 Low - 4 to 8 tiles

In this manner the above would be a good guide so as to know what would be our next plan for

our child if we want him or her to grow up and become an A-level student in his future schooling

years. Parents ought to be conscious of their children's learning abilities given an environment

where at each school year end more straight A's students are being developed.

Studies have proved that the sooner a child is being read to by his/her parent the earlier he/she

will develop an interest in listening to the sweet sound of his/her parent's reading voice, which in

most cases is the mother's voice. Over the time a child will get accustomed to her reading voice

and will naturally learn to know at which time is his/her mother-child reading time. Therefore, the

sooner a child is being read to, the better.

FUN THINKERS series is usually introduced to a child as soon as he/she is able to sit and hold

things. Therefore, as a child is ready to "Listen" to his/her mother's learning instructions, he/she

would by then be ready to participate in the FUN THINKERS games.
