I have enjoyed my three years coaching and know in my heart have achieved something towards our goals for first grade. The Club to become more professional should adopt a summer training schedule to allow players to work on any deficiencies they have in the off season which will make the respective coaches jobs easier at the start of the season. I look forward to assisting the Club in 1983, even though I ami not seeking a coaching position, and wish all players and coaches every success PAT McCOURT - 17 -

JUNIOR REPORT

Congratulations must go to Mark S i e l y on coaching the Under 15 Sydney team to winning the State Championship i n Broken H i l l undefeated.

Congratulations must go to Mark Roberts who was selected i n the State U17 team and to Michael C l i f t and John Evans who were selected in the State U15 team.

This year has been a d i f f i c u l t year i n our r e l a t i o n s with the Junior Association with negative attitudes of some people over the promotion of junior palyers to play senior football causing a l o t of heartache t h i s season not only with club o f f i c i a l s but the junior players concerned. Hopefully t h i s situation has now been resolved and we can look forward to a more commonsense approach by a l l concerned.

The Clubs support of Junior Football was again f a i r l y strong es p e c i a l l y our support for a l l representative teams.

Congratulations must go to Heathcote Club on t h e i r 25th anniversary and the Miranda Club on t h e i r 21st anniversary.

I t was i r o n i c that we: l o s t to Wests i n the preliminary F i n a l for they were the only team to dominate us throughout the season. F i n a l Premiers, Norths, could not handle our team work 'in any encounter with one of our best successes being our win over them i n the f i r s t round. To come from s i x goals down i n one quarter was a great morale booster. Another game to dominate our season was the East c l a s h a t Trumper Park which was won on sheer courage.

I thank a l l players who participated, e s p e c i a l l y those who were injured throughout the season and spent a great deal of t h e i r own time and money to gain f i t n e s s to continue playing. You a l l deserve a greater reward for your e f f o r t s .

On behalf of the team a big thank you to our President, Greg Mclver and Treasurer, Nifty Shaw for also being t r a i n e r s througt out the season. I would l i k e to thank Jim, my Father for h i s work as team manager. To Bob Leedow for h i s t r a i n i n g records anc assistance a t t r a i n i n g . To Bob McConnell for h i s support and to my Mother, Kath for her weekly maintenance and care of jumpers. To a l l Club O f f i c i a l s and Coaches, John Tuckwell and Pat McCourt who encouraged the team and gave them and myself assistance and guidance throughout the year. To the l a d i e s Committee and a l l supporters, e s p e c i a l l y those who f i n a n c i a l l y contributed to the Club, Thank you.

In conclusion, I take t h i s opportunity to thank a l l reserve grade players who have supported me i n the past f i v e seasons. 3 have enjoyed my stay as Reserve Grade Coach, i t has given me tremendous pride and pleasure to say I was associated with them.

RESERVE GRADE COACHES REPORT

The Season 1982 was a success for a l l grades i n making the f i n a l s . Unfortunately for most players pressure football i n f i n a l s had not been experienced for some time. However, t h i s experience w i l l stand them i n good stead for the coming season.

After season 1981 most reserve grade players believed, as I did, that we could win a premiership i n 1982. There was tremendous determination and dedication by players such as Wayne Rogers and Glenn Taylor- With good numbers at t r a i n i n g positions were keenly fought for throughout the season. This resulted i n only four losses, the main one being the Preliminary f i n a l . To work so hard to be i n the top 20 players must make you proud but you must also be determined to do well i n d i v i d u a l l y , not only for yourself but for the other players who trained j u s t as hard but f a i l e d to gain selection on the day. Now a l l players must rechard t h e i r enthusiasm and give that l i t t l e e xtra that w i l l r e s u l t i n t o t a l success.

FIRST GRADE COACHES REPORT

The 1982 Season i s now over and looking back we can e s t a b l i s h that goal for the year of making the four was achieved.

We as a Club are well respected opponents for a l l other teams, t h i s being borne out by our 1982 performances. However 1983 presents an even bigger challenge to the Club, do we become stronger or do we f a l l back down the ladder. The challenge to become more successful should be enough for a l l players to commit themselves to contest harder and make the 1983 season a Grand F i n a l goal.

In c losing I would l i k e to thank the Club Executive, Committee, Selectors Ken Brain and Mark S i e l y , Team Manager Garry Wenham, Alan Taylor, Pat McCourt and a l l the players for your support and commitment throughout the 1982.Season.

The 1983 season i s approaching and l e t us as a Club make sure we become the f i n a l winner. I t s there ready for us to take.

TREASURER'S REPORT

This l i k e so many other years has not been a successful one fi n a n c i a l l y , but other Clubs have had a d i f f i c u l t time a l s o . We can only look at the r e s u l t s and wonder how your Club w i l l cope next year.

A note of thanks must be extended to the Social Group who organised and helped during the season i n the canteen and with other fun-raising a c t i v i t i e s . There was a lack of support at some functions but others had a great response. I f only we had more w i l l i n g hands with the organising of these functions so that we w i l l keep improving.

A special mention must be made to a small group of supporters without t h e i r f i n a n c i a l help i t would have been impossible to meet our f i n a n c i a l commitments.

The Clubs expenses for A f f i l i a t i o n fees, F i r s t Aid, and some playing gear should be met by the playing members as they do in other competitive sports. This would then enable the Club to r a i s e the necessary funds to maintain a high standard of football within the code.

In closing, I wish to extend my thanks to Bob Leedow for h i s untiring assistance during the year..

o ANNUAL REPORT

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As your Secretary, i t gives me great pleasure on behalf of your Club to present to you for your consideration and endorsemen the F i f t y - F o r t h Annual Report and Fi n a n c i a l Report for Season 1982.

The 1982 season has been successful for St George with a l l grades reaching the Semi-Finals. However, F i r s t grade was defeated i n the Minor Semi-Final and second and th i r d grades i n the Preliminary F i n a l . We must s t r i v e for nothing l e s s than a f i r s t grade premiership next year.

On behalf of the Club I'd l i k e to give s p e c i a l thanks and appreciation to Greg Mclver, Neville Shaw, Bob McConnell, Bob Leedow and Brian Twist for t h e i r untiring support and dedication i n the running and administration of the club.

My thanks must also go to my fellow Board Members, the ladies who have worked so hard to r a i s e funds for the Club a l l year and to the Coaches, Team Managers and Trainers who have carried out t h e i r tasks so d i l i g e n t l y a l l season.

At t h i s point I must welcome a l l newcomers to the Club and hope that your season with the Club has been an enjoyable one.

Tonight a l l positions become vacant so I urge you to think very c a r e f u l l y before accepting nominations for positions within the Club i f you are unable to put i n the hours of work required to run t h i s great Club of ours.

o PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS

1982 our 54th year as a Club has been our most successful year since 1978 with a l l three grades making the f i n a l s .

Congratulations must go "to a l l Coaches, Players, Trainers and Club O f f i c i a l s who along with support from many of our members combined together to enable the club to achieve success t h i s season.

My personal thanks goes to Bob McConnell, Neville Shaw, Mick Hanrahan, Brian Swist and Bob Leedow for t h e i r great support and assistance a l l year, without t h e i r work the club would not function as w e l l as i t has. Special thanks must go to our selectors Ken Brain and Mark S i e l y who contributed so w e l l a l l season.

Special thanks must go to a l l the ladies who helped out during the year i n the cnateen and at our s o c i a l functions. The f i n a n c i a l benefits from your e f f o r t s i s something the club can not do without so we are indeed indebted to you.

The Clubs reputation and standing i n football c i r c l e s has been further enhanced by our on f i e l d performances and by the Club meeting a l l i t s S.F.L. committments a t a l l times, not l i k e so many other Clubs have not done. The Clubs honest and common sense approach to a l l matters a t S.F.L. l e v e l has made our position as one of the top clubs i n the League, even more evident with the advent of the Sydney Swans moving permanently to Sydney, more media coverage and o v e r a l l i n t e r e s t w i l l be created i n our game which our club must make sure we benefit from both players and p u b l i c i t y wise.

In 1983 we must make sure that we: do not lose our momentum and s l i p down the ladder, we must continue our climb towards the top which can only come about by hard work, dedication and ov e r a l l e f f o r t s by everyone.
