On behalf of Corporate Parity I am honoured and delighted to welcome you to this year’s “Global S&OP to IBP Summit” in Amsterdam.
S&OP has been around for decades, long be-fore buzz-words of artificial intelligence, bloc-kchain, IoT, and big data analytics set out to occupy IT-budgets. So you might be quick to think that it’s practice and learnings are well es-tablished, and everybody is reaping its benefits (apart from your company). But there is more evidence that companies, from SMEs to Mul-tinationals across Europe are still struggling to manage demand volatility. Gartner research has ranked “Forecast accuracy and Demand Varia-bility” as the number 1 obstacle to achieving su-pply chain goals and objectives from 2009 until 2016, ahead of obstacles including “Leadership and corporate culture”, “cross-functional colla-boration”, “lack of visibility across the supply chain”, “inability to integrate synchronise E2E processes”, and “supply chain talent”. And whi-le most companies are busy working towards level 2 or 3 maturity in S&OP, markets are fur-ther increasing demand volatility to make plan-ning rather harder than easier. It remains to be seen whether the ai revolution will actually sol-ve some of today’s demand management cha-llenges, or rather disrupt the supply chain even further, making it more volatile and thus S&OP and IBP even more relevant in the future. What is certain is that for now, S&OP and IBP remain a top priority for companies hoping to improve supply chain planning.
Welcome Note from Chairman
One thing I believe as a conference chair, is that the success of the conference not only de-pends on the high quality of talks and case stu-dies presented, but also how you engage with the speakers and other attendees. You can use this event to simply lean back and hear talks that help guide you in your S&OP and IBP journey, from te-chnical solutions of statistical forecasting to chan-ge management tips & tricks and driving senior management buy-in. Or you can use it to actively engage with the speakers and other attendees in sessions and breaks, share your own experiences and insights, and network with peers. Ultimately we designed the event to encourage you to do the latter, which I am certain will deepen all of our lear-nings and make the event even more interesting for all of us. So please do walk up to me and the speakers and engage!
And finally, if you think you have an interesting story to share, why not volunteer to speak at a fu-ture event? Remember: humans still mostly learn from mistakes, and not from well-written blueprints … so work in progress and projects with nasty obstacles are welcome, not only success stories! But for now I personally look forward to hearing your Demand Planning and Forecasting stories in Amsterdam this October.
Regards
