1. E-way Bill System

E-way bill system for interstate movement of goods has been implemented across India on

April 1 2018.

Till now 10,96,905 taxpayers have registered on e-Way Bill Portal which helps to curb tax

evasion and improve revenue.

2.Rupashree scheme

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scheme Rupashree .

The aim of this scheme is to which provide one time financial support of Rs 25,000 to the

marriages of Poor Girls.

1.GSAT – 6A

ISRO had lost its contact with Communication satellite GSAT-6A, which is launched recently.

It was launched in Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit(GTO) by India's Geosynchronous Satellite

Launch Vehicle (GSLV-F08).

GSAT -6A is a communication satellite designed to provide mobile communication service via

multi beam coverage.

2.Delhi roll-outs BS-VI fuel.

New Delhi becomes the first city to roll-out the Bharat State –VI fuel in the country.

The aim of this roll out is to curb the raising level of air pollution.

The difference between existing BS-IV and current BS-VI is presence of Sulphur.

The current BS-VI will release 80% less sulphur comparing to BS-IV, from 50ppm to 10 ppm

(Parts per million)

3.Multi Modal Logistic Park

Multi modal Logistic park has been inaugurated at Balli station near Madgaon, Goa.

It helps to reduce the time as well as cost of transportation.

4.Tiangong-1:

China’s space lab Tiangong-1 re-enter Earth’s atmosphere and fell in middle of south Pacific Sea.

2.Fimbristylis agasthyamalaensis:

Scientist has discovered new plant species in Western Ghats called Fimbristylis

agasthyamalaensis

This is belongs to Cyperaceae family and many of this family are medicinal plants.

3.Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas

Ministry of Human Resource development has proposed for extension of Kastuba Gandhi

Balika Viyalayas (KGBVs) up to 12th standard.

KGBVs are residential school for girls belonging to SC, ST, OBC, Minority and Below poverty

line and it is operational in Educationally Backward Blocks.

It aims to reduce the gender gap at elementary education.

4.Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan

Ministry of Human Resource Development has launched a Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan to encourage

children to learn Science & Mathematics.

5.India’s Fastest Train

India’s Fastest Train Gatimaan Express Extended up to Bundelkhand Region.

It runs from Delhi to Jhansi of Uttar Pradesh, it is now extended to Bundelkhand region to

Boost Tourism.

1.India-Afghanistan Agreement

Union cabinet has given its nod in agreement on cooperation in Food safety and related

areas between India and Afghanistan.

It was signed between Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Ministry of Health

& Family Welfare and Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation & Livestock, Afghanistan

2.Agreement between Indian Army and HDFC Bank

Indian Army has signed agreement with HDFC bank regarding the defence Salary package.

The agreement will help the requirements of serving soldiers, pensioners and families and

also provide opportunity to access modern banking facilities.

3.NIRF Rankings 2018:

As per the national institutional ranking framework (NIRF)ranking Indian Institute of Science

(IISc) Bengaluru bagged the overall best institute in India.

Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) adjudged the best engineering college in

India.

Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) is the best management institution in

India.

All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) bagged the best medical institute in India.

4.2017 National Highway Growth.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that there was 20 % growth in construction of National

Highways in 2017.

It has laid 9,829 km Road constructed in 2017.

4.ASPIRE:

NASA successfully tested the Mars landing parachute called The Advanced Supersonic

Parachute Inflation Research Experiment (ASPIRE).

It will help NASA’s Mission to land safely in MARS.

1.Protection of Human Rights (Amendments) Bill, 2018

Union Cabinet has given its nod to approval for the Protection of Human Rights

(Amendments) Bill, 2018 for better protection and promotion of human rights.

The amendment makes National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and State Human Rights

Commission (SHRC) more compliant with the Paris Principle concerning autonomy,

independence, and more to effectively protect and promote Human rights.

It will help to strengthen the Human Rights institution, which makes more effectively

discharge their duties and will ensure the protection of rights relating to life, liberty, equality

and dignity of the individual.

Features of Amendment(as Per official release – source PIB)

It Proposed “National Commission for Protection of Child Rights” as deemed Member of the

Commission;

To add a woman Member in the composition of the Commission;

To enlarge the scope of eligibility and scope of selection of Chairperson, National Human

Rights Commission as well as the State Human Rights Commission; and

To incorporate a mechanism to look after the cases of human rights violation in the Union

Territories.

To amend the term of office of Chairperson and Members of National Human Rights

Commission and State Human Rights Commission to make it in consonance with the terms

of Chairperson and Members of other Commissions.

Paris Principle is set of international standards framed and guides the work of Human rights

1.RH300 sounding rocket

The RH300 Sounding Rocket developed by Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC),

Thiruvananthapuram launched successfully.

It was launched from Thumba Equatorial Rocket launching Station (TERLS) for atmospheric

studies.

It is part of the Sounding Rocket Experiment (SOUREX) programme of VSSC , which utilises

RH300 sounding rocket to study the equatorial E and Lower ionosphere region of

atmosphere.

It helps to improve the available atmospheric data and used for tropical weather prediction.

It also measures the neutral wind in the dynamo region (which is 85 and 200 km altitude

from earth) of equatorial ionosphere and perform cross validation using Tri Methyl

Aluminium (TMA).

Note:

TMA are used to study the neutral winds in the lower Ionosphere.

2.Oxytocin Banned.

Central Government has banned the import of Oxytocin to stop misuse of livestock industry.



It is banned due to misuse of Oxytocin by some dairy owners and farmers to improve milk

production and increase the size of vegetables, also in some overcrowded hospitals it is used

for speed up deliveries for pregnant women.

What is Oxytocin?

Oxytocin is segregated by Pituitary Gland.

It is a hormonal injection used widely in dairy, agriculture and horticulture areas for increase

the production.

It is also used for uterine contraction and augmentation of labour in women during delivery,

also helps to prevent post-delivery bleeding.

3.Exercise Gaganshakti 2018:

Indian Air force conducting one of the biggest combat exercise along Pakistan, China borders called

Gaganshakti 2018 from 8th April to 22nd April.

4.Gobardhan Yojana

Central Government set to launch “Gobardhan Yojana” scheme nationally from Haryana’s

Karnal region on April 30 2018.

Gobardhan Yojana is the scheme to convert the cattle dung and solid waste into manure and

bio gas.

The aim of the scheme is to ensure cleanliness in village and generate energy converting

solid waste into compost and biogas

7.ICICI Bank’s SWIFT’s GPI service.

ICICI Banks become the first Indian Bank to go live on SWIFT’s Global payment innovation

service.



Recently Reserve Bank of India has asked all banks to link its core banking solution with

SWIFT(Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications) interbank messaging

system by April 30.

About SWIFT.

SWIFT is a messaging networks that financial institution use to securely transmit information

and instructions through an identification codes.

SWIFT Codes mostly used for international wire transfers which consists of 8 to 11

alphanumeric characters.

It is founded in 1973, headquarters in La Hulpe, Belgium.

International Organisation of Standardization which approves the creation of SWIFT Codes.

Global Logistics Summit 2018 was held in New Delhi, with the aim to improve logistics and

connectivity which are vital for increasing intra-state and international trade flows.

1.RBI switches back to GDP model

Reserve Bank of India has switch backed to Gross Domestic product (GDP) based measure to

calculate the Growth Estimates, from Gross Value added (GVA) methodology .

GVA methodology was adopted by government for Growth estimates from January 2015 , it

also changed the base year to 2018 from January 2018.

The Basic Difference between GDP and GVA is that the GVA gives growth estimates from

producer (supply side )and GDP gives growth estimates from consumer side (demand side).

About GDP:

Gross Domestic product means the total value of final Goods and services produced over a specific

period of time within the boundary of country.

About GVA:

Gross Value added is a measure of total output and income of the country.

It is the total value of final Goods and services produced in the country after deducting cost

of inputs and raw materials that used for producing those goods and services.



2.Odilorhabdins:

The New class of antibiotics to kill bacteria has been discovered by scientist called

Odilorhabdins.

Odilorhabdins produced by symbiotic bacteria found in soil-dwelling nematode worms that

colonise insects for food .

3.Walmiki and Malhar languages

The 2 new languages Walmiki and Malhar has been discovered by Hyderabad Univeristy.

Walmiki was spoken in Koraput district of Odisha and border district of Andhra Pradesh.

Analysis said that Walmiki does not belong to particular family of languages.

The Walmiki speaking community claims that this language is descent from poet Valmiki.

Malhar spoken in small hamlet in Odihsa , which is 165 km away from Bhubaneswar.

Preliminary data shows Malhar belongs to North Dravidian Subgroup.

1.New source of global nitrogen

Researchers found that the 26 % of Nitrogen present in the ecosystem are sourced from

weathering of Earth’s bedrocks and remaining are from atmosphere.

1.First Offshore Wind energy project.

Chennai based the National Institute of Wind Energy has calls for Expression of Interest for

the development of first offshore wind energy project of India.

1.IRNSS-1I

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launches the IRNSS-1I navigation

satellite from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

It was launched in orbit by using PSLV-C41 launch Vehicle.

IRNSS-1I will replace IRNSS-1A due to its three rubidium atomic clocks failed to work.

About IRNSS:



Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System is a regional navigation satellite system

developed by India to provide accurate position information services to users across the

country and the region extending upto an area of 1,500km.

Till date ,there are seven satellites launched in IRNSS Series they are, IRNSS-1A, 1B, 1C,

ID,1E, 1F and IG.

It is designed to provide 2 types of services standard positioning service and restricted

service. Standard positioning service will provide to all users and restricted service is for

authorised users.

IRNSS will work similar like GPS(Global Positioning system) of US, Galileo of Europe, Russia’s

Glonass, Quasi Zenith Satellite System of Japan and Beidou of China.

Some of the application of IRNSS are Terrestrial, Aerial and marine navigation, disaster

management, Vehicle tracking and fleet management, Navigation aid and more.

1.Price Support System.

Central Government‟s Price Support System (PSS) under National Agricultural Cooperative

Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) has been extended to the pulse-Growing farmers of

Tamil Nadu.

NAFED will directly purchase the pulses from farmers when the Market price is lower than

the minimum support price (MSP) provided by Government.

For example- if the market price is Rs 42 and the MSP is Rs 50 then the PSS will directly

purchase the pulses from Farmers to reduce their loses.



2.Third revenue division for Tiruvannamalai.

A Third Revenue division with Arni as headquarters has been inaugurated in Tiruvannamalai

District.

Tiruvannamalai and Cheyyar are the other 2 revenue divisions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated Health and Wellness centre to mark the

India signed $48 Million loan agreement for Meghalaya Community - Led Landscapes

Management Project (MCLLMP) with World Bank.

The main objective of the agreement is to strengthen community-led landscapes management

in selected landscapes in Meghalaya.

2.Gram Swaraj Abhiyan launched.

Gram Swaraj Abhiyan has been launched on April 14 with the aim to inclusion of people of

backward villages of the country to get benefit in government welfare scheme.

India –Wiesbaden Conference 2018 held in New Delhi hosted by Ministry of external Affairs in

cooperation with Government of Germany and United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs

(UNODA).

The title of the conference is “Securing Global Supply Chains through Government-Industry

Partnerships towards Effective Implementation of UNSC Resolution 1540”

About UNSC Resolution 1540.

In 2004 United Nation Security Council has voted to adopt Resolution 1540, with aim to

prevent the non-state actors that attempt to develop, acquire, manufacture nuclear, biological,

and chemical weapons, their means of delivery, and related materials.

Therefore states should implement appropriate and effective measures to prevent non-state

actors such as terrorists, from obtaining access to weapons of mass destruction .

About Wiesbaden Process

It is a process initiated by Germany to strengthen the implementation of UNSC 1540 through

Government-industry partnership in 2012.

India has legally backed export control system to implement UNSC 1540 for its commitment

towards non-proliferation.

2.DARPAN-PLI App

DIGITAL ADVANCEMENT OF RURAL POST OFFICE FOR A NEW INDIA (DARPAN)

was launched by Department of posts.

DARPAN-PLI app launched with aim to achieve total digitisation of postal operations in

Union Environment Ministry released the details of National Clean Air Programme to tackle

the increasing air pollution problem across India.

The Aim of the programme to reduce air pollution by 35% in 100 selected cities in another 3

years and 50% in next 5 years.

India has won 6 elections to committees of United Nation Economic and Social Council

Bodies.

India got the highest number of votes with 46 followed by Pakistan 43,Bahrain 40 and China

39 to the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations.

The Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) Committee is considered influential because it

1.CJI Impeachment.

Seven Opposition Parties serve notice of impeachment of Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra

accusing him on ground of serious misbehaviour and misusing authority.

The opposition parties handed over the notice of impeachment to Chairman of Rajya Sabha M

Venkaiah Naidu with signatures of 71 MPs of Rajya Sabha.

Article 124 (4) of constitution deals with procedure of removal of Judges of Supreme Court

including CJI

Procedure of Removal of Judges:

The grounds of Removal of judges will be proved misbehaviour or incapacity.

A removal motion should signed by 100 member of lok Sabha or 50 members of Rajya

Sabha.

It should be given to Speaker / Chairman and they may reject or admit.

If it is admitted then Speaker/Chairman has to constitute the three member committee to

investigate the charges.

Committee should comprise of Chief justice or Supreme court Judge, Chief justice of high

Court and distinguished jurist.

If the committee finds the judge is guilty then the impeachment motion has to pass in both

houses.

It should be passed by Special majority in each house of parliament.



Once it is passed by both houses then it will send to president, then he will passes an order of

impeachment of Judge.

Till now no judge of the Supreme Court has been impeached.

Justice V Ramaswami is the only judge faced impeachment, the enquiry committee found guilty but

impeachment motion was defeated in Lok Sabha.

Union Cabinet has given its nod for restructured Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Rashtriya

Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA).

RGSA is launched for developing governance capabilities of PAnchayat Raj Institution to

deliver on sustainable development goals.

2.Earth Day- April 22

Earth day is observed on April 22 across the world to spread awareness for conservation and

to protect environment.

The 2018 theme of Earth Day is “End Plastic Pollution”.

3.Death Penalty for Rape of Girls under 12

Union Cabinet has given its nod for ordinance allowing Court to provide Death penalty those who

convicted for raping girls under age12.

4.Fugitive economic offenders ordinance

Union Cabinet has given its nod for the proposal to promulgate the Fugitive Economic

Offenders Ordinance 2018 which helps to prevent the economic offenders from evading the

process of Indian law by staying outside the jurisdiction of Indian Courts.

The total value of 100 crore or more will come under the purview of this bill.

Features of the Bill.

The bill will force the fugitive to return to India to face the trial.

Confiscation of the property of offender in India, Abroad including benami property.

Fugitive economic offender cannot demand any civil claim.

Separate administrator will appoint to manage and dispose the confiscated property.

This bill will help to improve the financial health of the banking sector because non –payment

of loan will worsen the financial health of the bank.

1.Sunderban to get Ramsar Tag.

Sunderban Reserve Forest is likely to declare as Ramsar site soon.

Sunderban Reserve forest is a tiger reserve and biosphere reserve in India which spread across

4,260 sq.km with around 2,000 sq.km is mangrove forest and Creeks.

Sunderban Reserve forest is partly in West Bengal and Bangladesh. It is part of Ganges Delta.

Sunderbans Mangrove forest is the largest mangrove forest in the world.

There are currently 26 sites recognised as Ramsar Wetland sites.

About Ramsar Convention:

Ramsar Convention is an intergovernmental Treaty adopted in 1971 at Ramsar in Iran.

The objective of treaty is national and international cooperation to conserve and better use of

wetlands.

India joined the treaty on 1982.

2.AFSPA removed in Meghalaya

Union Government has removed Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 from Meghalaya

after 28 years.

AFSPA which provides special powers to Indian Armed force to bring control AFSPA

implemented area.

About AFSPA:

Armed Force Special Power act was enacted in 1958 which give special powers to Indian

armed force to bring control of “Disturbed area” declared by Indian government.

It gives the forces to shoot to kill, search houses, destroy any property likely to be used by

rebels. It also gives power to arrest without warrant.

Parts of Assam, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, Nagaland are under AFSPA.

Governor can send notification to union government regarding the imposition of AFSAP in

particular area. Center then declared particular area as disturbed region for minimum three

months.

3.Highest recipient of remittances

India becomes highest recipient of remittances worth of $69 billion says report released by

World Bank.

India is followed by China with $64 billion, Philippines with $33 billion.

1.Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan at Mandla, Madhya

Pradesh with the aim to strengthen the Panchayat Raj

RGSA will strengthen the Panchayat Raj across the nation and will address if there is any gap

that limits its success.

RGSA aim

RGSA will improve capacities and effectiveness of Panchayats and the Gram Sabhas;

Enable democratic decision-making and accountability in Panchayats and promote people's

participation;

Strengthen the institutional structure for knowledge creation and capacity building of

Panchayats;

Promote devolution of powers and responsibilities to Panchayats according to the spirit of the

Constitution and PESA Act;

Strengthen Gram Sabhas to function effectively as the basic forum of peoples participation,

transparency and accountability within the Panchayat system;

Create and strengthen democratic local self-government in areas where Panchayats do not

exist;

Strengthen the constitutionally mandated framework on which Panchayats are founded.

World‟s smallest land fern named Malvi‟s adders‟s tongue fern discovered in Western Ghats.

4.Madhya Pradesh Rural Connectivity Project

Union Government has signed $120M loan agreement with World bank to improve rural road

connectivity in Madhya Pradesh.

5.On-going power projects in TN



The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) is executing 5 super

critical thermal power project which will expected to commissioned by 2019-21.

The 5 super critical Thermal Power projects are North Chennai TPP with capacity of 800

MW, Ennore SEZ TPP with 1,320 MW, Ennore Expansion TPP with 660 MW, Uppur TPP in

Ramanathapuram district with 6000 MW , Udangudi TPP in Thoothukudi district with 1,320

MW Capacity.

Other power projects are Kadaladi Solar power project in Ramanathapuram district with 500

MW and Kundah Pumped storage hydroelectric project in Nilagiri district with 500 MW

capacity .

These projects are expected to complete before 2021 .

Union Cabinet has given its ex-post facto approval for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)

between India and Sao Tome and Principe for Cooperation in the field of Traditional Systems of

Medicine and Homoeopathy

2.Extension of Schedule Areas in Rajasthan.

Union Cabinet has given its nod for extension of Schedule areas in Rajasthan under Fifth

Schedule of Indian Constitution.

The Scheduled Tribes residing in Banswara, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, and partial areas of

Udaipur, Rajsamand, Chittorgarh, Pali and Sirohi districts of Rajasthan will get benefits under

this extension

Fifth Schedule of Indian Constitution deals with provisions on administration and control of

Schedule areas and Schedule Tribe.

3.HARIMAU SHAKTI 2018:

In order to build military ties with ASEAN Countries, India-Malaysia joint training exercise

to be held in Malaysia called HARIMAU SHAKTI 2018 from April 30 to May 13.

Exercise aims to build cooperation and coordination between both armed forces.

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has granted first licence to M/s Gujarat Alkalies and

India ranks 138th in the latest World Press Freedom Index 2018 report just one rank above

Gurjarati Poet Sitanshu Yashachandra chosen for 2017 Saraswati Samman for his Collection

of poetry titled Vakhar .



Saraswti Samman is an annual award constituted in 1991,

It provides to recognise outstanding literary work every year written in Indian Language listed

in Schedule VIII of the Constitution of India.

4.Asia Pacific Regional Workshop of UNCCD

The Asia Pacific Regional Workshop of United Nations Convention to Combat

Desertification (UNCCD) was held in New Delhi.

The workshop is to build the capacity of the Asia-Pacific region to monitor and report land

degradation.

UNCCD is the only legally binding international agreement on land issues with aim to protect

land from over use and drought.
