High cost saving for cylinder oil consumption of diesel engine ― Great contribution of operation cost for fleet －

Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. has started the sale of newly developed electronic

control cylinder oil lubricating system named Alpha Lubricator System, which effects reducing much of cylinder oil consumption for diesel engine under the MAN B&W license agreement. Cylinder oil is essential for the two-stroke marine diesel engine operation; accordingly reduction of the cylinder oil consumption is most effective for saving operation cost of the fleet.

Cylinder oil consumption by the Alpha Lubricator System is lower than by the conventional

lubricator because it can feed cylinder oil quickly at precise timing by electronic control. By this improvement, cylinder oil consumption can be reduced by 20 to 30% approximately.

The Alpha Lubricator System can be installed to two-part type cylinder liner without modification

of the liner. Meanwhile, conventional lubricator being used can be used for an emergency backup device as a fail-safe in case the Alpha system does not work.

The Alpha Lubricator System is functional and comparatively easy installation, therefore high

economical effect is expected such as initial investment cost can be recovered within 1.5 to 2 years in case of 10K90MC engine.

※ Additional modification is necessary on mono-block cylinder liner at oil groove and injector hole; also non-return valve must be changed to injector for Alpha system. However, Dual-cast cylinder liner does not require such modification because of its structure.
