There are many forms of meditation, with many goals. Other prac-tices most often involve some concentration or control of themind and others involve contemplationthinking about something.
Some of these practices keep the mind engaged in some way,
for example, by focusing on an object or on something like your

The National Institutes of Health has granted over $20 million tostudy the eects of the Transcendental Meditation program on theprevention and treatment of heart disease, hypertension, and stroke.
In addition, hundreds of other studies have been conducted on the
benecial eects of the TM program for mind, health, behavior, and
society at over 210 independent universities and research institutions
in 33 countries, including Harvard, Yale, and UCLA Medical School.
HOW STRESS DAMAGES THE HEART
Psychological stress has been shown to increase activation of the
sympathetic nervous system and other areas critical to heart health.
This increased activation releases a set of stress hormones which
lead to faster heart rate, increased cardiac output, and narrower
arteries. These changes, in turn, create increased blood pressure.
Activat ion of these systems a lso accelerates the prog-
ress of atherosclerosis and can lead to plaque rupture, which
results in angina and coronary heart disease and stroke.

The relationships with hundreds of people and the way you handle
those relationships and the individuals youre dealing with they
all impact your success rate. Your mind is turning over all the time.
You constantly have to ll it up and then clear it o for the next sub-
ject, ll it and clear it o. I think pretty much all business is like that.
For me Transcendental Meditation provides the clearing off or
cleansing. Its like taking a bucket of water, throwing it on your dirty
car, and watching the dirt wash o until you have a nice, shiny car
again. TM didnt impact my religious beliefs or any other beliefs.
It didnt get in the way of anything. It didnt take a degree in nuclear phys-
ics to understand. It was just a very simple, relaxing technique that gave
my brain a chance to breathe at the beginning and end of each work day.
