What is LEED?The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating SystemTM is a national voluntary standard developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a coalition non-profi t organization. LEED is a nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.

The LEED Rating System gives architects, building contractors and owners tools to determine how to have measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. It provides the building industry with con-sistent, credible standards to design and maintain green buildings that are healthy places for their oc-cupants, energy-effi cient and cost-effi cient, and built with sustainable materials in a sustainable way.

Why do I need to know about LEED?We live in a world where concern for the environment and sustainable development – minimizing the impact of our consumption of renewable resources – is a necessary and growing consideration for everyone. Business and industry are paying attention to this trend because energy-effi ciency has an impact on overhead and profi tability, and it positively refl ects their values as good corporate citizens. Legislative passage of EPAct 2005 and other environmental laws show that conservation is a national issue, and the green building industry is bound to grow stronger.

Using the LEED system helps guide builders and architects toward real solutions for green building practices. Specifying T&S Brass water-saving plumbing products can help achieve LEED certifi cation.

What is LEED certifi cation? What are its benefi ts?LEED credits are awarded based on criteria in six categories of performance. Architects, building planners, owners or other project team members apply for this certifi cation. A building project must meet a set of prerequisites to be registered, and it must achieve the minimum number of points to earn a basic “Certifi ed” level of LEED certifi cation. The number of points the project earns determines the level of LEED certifi cation (from a Certifi ed level through Silver and Gold to the Platinum level).

LEED certifi cation is a third-party validation of a building’s green performance, and it demonstrates that building green need not cost more money to reap benefi ts. According to the USGBC, LEED-certifi ed buildings cost less to operate and maintain, are healthier places to live and work in, and conserve our natural resources (see the usgbc.org website for more information).

Can T&S products be certifi ed under LEED?No. LEED applies to green building projects, and the USGBC does not endorse or certify the products and services of any company. However, individual manufacturers’ products can contribute to credits under the LEED rating system.

Many T&S products can help contribute to two of the six categories of performance – Water Effi ciency and Materials & Resources. For instance, many of our faucets and spray valves help earn points under “Water Effi ciency” as “Water Use Reduction” credits. Please refer to the chart on the back page of this brochure to specify and modify T&S products, and note how they can help contribute towards credits for LEED certifi cation. Each LEED project is unique, therefore the T&S contribution will be different.

Why is T&S interested in LEED and green building? For many years, T&S Brass has paid attention to the relationship between the environment and our engineering and manufacturing processes. As an example, over 20 years ago we anticipated an energy-effi cient market demand for a low-fl ow spray valve with our B-0107-C. Many of our water-effi cient pre-rinse units, faucets and fi ttings have been on the market for over a decade.

More recently, we have designed an extensive line of new water-conserving foodservice pre-rinse units, faucets, hose assemblies, as well as additional spray valves and accessories, in response to EPAct 2005. These products will be specifi ed more and more as the green building market grows.

What benefi ts come from being more green-minded? How can you profi t? Encourage architects, contractors and other building designers to specify the energy-effi cient T&S products you already sell.

How does the building industry profi t? Specifying T&S products helps contribute towards credits for LEED certifi cation. It also demonstrates commitment to green building practices and helps realize profi tability. This is good business, and it is good for everyone.

T&S Foodservice and Plumbing Products LEED Qualifi cation Guide

CATEGORY: Water Effi ciency (WE)All T&S products meet the minimum EPA 1992 requirements within all LEED Systems. T&S products can contribute to Water Use Reduction credits in several LEED rating systems of performance under “Water Effi ciency:”

• New Commercial Construction and Major Renovation projects (LEED-NC)• Existing Building Operations and Maintenance (LEED-EB)• Commercial Interiors projects (LEED-CI)• Core and Shell Development projects (LEED-CS)• Homes• Neighborhood Development• Guidelines for Multiple Buildings and On-Campus Building Projects• LEED for Schools• LEED for Retail – New Construction • LEED for Retail – Commercial Interiors

WE Credit 3.1 – Water Use Reduction (20%)

WE Credit 3.2 – Water Use Reduction (30%)

Specifying T&S faucets with a -CR Cerama cartridge (instead of the standard Eterna cartridge) can contribute towards Water Use Reduction credits.

All T&S Electronic Sensor Faucets, and Lavatory Faucets using the 238A Metering Cartridge can contribute towards credits. Specifying one of the many T&S faucets which accept T&S Aerators and Flow Control Devices (in particular, the -01F-xx through -08F-xx Series Aerators which have fl ow rates of 0.5 gpm) can also contribute towards Water Use Reduction credits.

Please refer to the LEED for Retail rating system. Many T&S Pre-rinse Units, Spray Valves and other foodservice products can contribute towards credits or points under “Water Effi ciency.” In fact, many T&S products are the most

water-effi cient available, and fall well within the EPAct 2005 requirement for fl ow rate (1.6 gpm maximum) for the foodservice plumbing industry.

CATEGORY: Materials & Resources (MR)Please refer to the LEED for Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI) rating system. Where project teams can opt to include plumbing products within this system, Recycled Content credits and Regional Materials credits can contribute towards credits or points under “Materials & Resources” by specifying T&S products.

MR Credit 4.1 – Recycled Content: 10% (Post-consumer + 1/2 Pre-consumer)

MR Credit 4.2 – Recycled Content: 20% (Post-consumer + 1/2 Pre-consumer)

Specifying T&S products can contribute to one rating of performance under “Materials & Resources”– Recycled Content, because of T&S’s award-winning commitment to outstanding recycling practices as recognized by various regional governing authorities.

MR Credit 5.1 – Regional Materials: 20% Manufactured Regionally

Specifying T&S products can contribute towards credits or points under “Materials & Resources” – Regional Materials, when regional materials (T&S products) are specifi ed for a qualifying LEED project. See our manufacturing locations below.

See the chart on the back page of this brochure for a more comprehensive list of T&S water- and energy-saving products and how they can help contribute credits towards LEED certifi cation. For more information, contact T&S Customer Service at 1-800-476-4103.
