Adjustments and Settings The TM-H5000/ H5000P is set up at the factory to be appropriatefor alm ost all u sers. It does, how ever, offer some settings for userswith special requirements.

It has DIP switches that allow you to change comm unicationsettings, such as handshaking and p arity check, as well as printdensity and connection to a custom er display.

The TM-H5000/ H 5000P also has a near-end sensor for the paper inthe receipt section. This can g ive you a w arning w hen the paper isalm ost out. If you find that there is not enough p aper remaining onthe roll when the near-end sensor is triggered, you can change thenear-end sensor setting.

    Chapter 3 Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting This chap ter gives solutions to some p rinter p roblems you m ayhave.

    General problems

The lights on the control panel do not come on.

Make sure tha t the pow er sup ply cables are correctly plugged intothe printer, the pow er un it, and to the power ou tlet.

Make sure tha t pow er is supp lied to the pow er outlet. If the outletis controlled by a sw itch or timer, use another out let.

    Printing problems

The paper roll section ERRORlight is on (not blinking) and nothing isprinted.

If the PAPER OUT light is on , the paper roll is not installed or is ator near the end . Install a new paper r oll. See Chap ter 1 forinstructions.

If the PAPER OUT ligh t isoff , m ake sure that the p aper roll cover isproperly closed . Press the pr inter cover until the cover aud iblyclicks into p lace.

An ERRORlight is blinking and the printer does not print.

First, turn off the p rinter and check for a paper jam. (See the paper jam description on page 3-4.)

    3-2 Troubleshooting

If there is no p aper jam and the p rinter has been p rinting for qu ite awhile, the p rint head m ay be overheated. If the print head isoverheated, the printer w ill resum e printing w hen the head hascooled (usually w ithin tw o or three m inutes).

If there is no p aper jam and the print head is not overheated, turnoff the printer and turn it back on after abou t 10 seconds. If theERROR light is still flashing, contact a qualified service person.

The ERRORlight is off, but nothing is printed.

Try to run the self test to check that the p rinter works properly. See

the self test instructions in Chap ter 1 to ru n th e self test. If the self test does not w ork, contact your d ealer or a qualified serviceperson.

If the self test w orks p roperly, check the following:

    1. Check the connection at both ends of the interface cablebetween the printer and the comp uter. Also make sure that thiscable meets the specifications for both the p rinter an d th ecomputer.

    2. The data transmission settings may be different between theprinter and compu ter. Make sure that the p rinters DIP switchsettings for data transmission are the sam e as the comp uters. You can p rint the p rinters interface settings using the self test.

If the printer still does not p rint, contact your d ealer or a qu alified

    service person.

The slip section of the printer sounds like it is printing, but nothing isprinted.

The ribbon cassette may not be insta lled p roperly. See theinstructions in Chapter 1.

Notes on slip paper t The slip pap er mu st be flat, without cur ls or wrinkles,

especially at the top edges. Otherwise, the pap er may ru bagainst the ribbon and become d irty.

t There mu st be no glue on the bottom edge. Choose slip pap ercarefully since paper feeding an d insertion are affected bygluing conditions (such as glue quality, m ethod , and length)and glue location (see the illustrat ion below). Be especiallycareful when slip p aper is wide and has glue on the left edge, since it may not feed in a straight line.

t Since the TOF sensor uses a reflective photo sensor and itdetects from the back of slip paper, do n ot use paper that hasholes or dark p ortions with low reflection (less than 40%reflection) at the sensor position.

t Use thinner paper (N30 or equivalent) between the top an dbottom sheets of multi-ply paper. If thick pap er is used, thecopy capability is lowered .
