Week 22 (Mar. 7-8) @wcha_whockey /WCHAWomensHockey wcha.com@wcha_whockey FloHockey.tv3 /WCHAHockey

Annually pitting the nation’s top programs and players, the WCHA Postseason Tournament is the premier conference tournament in women’s college hockey.

This year, the two-week, seven-team tournament will play out over the weekends of Feb. 28-March 1 and 7-8, 2020.

All seven WCHA teams qualify for the tournament, with the top seed earning a quarterfinal-round bye and advancing directly to the 2019 WCHA Final Faceoff.

The remaining top three seeds host the bottom three seeds (No. 2 vs. No. 7, No. 3 vs. No. 6 and No. 4 vs. No. 5) in a best-of-three quarterfinal series on their campuses Feb. 28-March 1.

The three quarterfinal winners join the No. 1 seed at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis on March 7-8 for the 2020 WCHA Final Faceoff.

The WCHA debuted the league's new regular season championship trophy - the Julianne Bye Cup in 2018-19.

The Cup is named in honor of longtime women’s hockey advocate Julianne Bye

The Julianne Bye Cup is a custom-made perpetual traveling trophy that will be presented to the winner of the WCHA regular season championship each year. The trophy travels from champion to champion at the conclusion of each regular season.

The Cup rests on a three-tier base that will include the trophy name and the Julianne Bye story on the first tier and engraved plates with each championship school’s name.

• Late in the period Daryl Watts, the WCHA scoring champion this season, potted her 25th goal of the season at 18:23 to send Wisconsin into the locker room with a 2-1 lead.

• The only scoring the second period came off the stick of Caitlin Schneider who pushed the Badger lead to 3-1 at 7:57.

• Sophie Shirley ended the day's scoring with an empty-net goal at 19:21 for the final margin.

WCHA Final Faceoff – Semifinal Ohio State 4, Minnesota 3 (OT)

• Ohio State's Tatum Skaggs scored at 4:56 of overtime to defeat Minnesota, 4-3, in the second semifinal of the 2020 WCHA Final Faceoff at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis Saturday.

• Amy Potomak potted a pair of unassisted goals to stake the Golden Gophers to a 2-0 second period lead.

• The score stood at 2-0 after Potomak second goal at 3:04 of the second period but Skaggs got the Buckeyes on the board just 1:22 later with her 15th goal of the season.

• Ohio State equalized late in the period when Jenn Gardner banged home a rebound off a shot from Paetyn Lewis to tie the score at 2-2, but Minnesota retook the momentum less than two minutes later on a 5-on-3 power play goal from Taylor Heise to give the Golden Gophers a 3-2 lead.

• The lead held for the Gophers until late in the third period when Gardner punched a shot past Minnesota netminder Sydney Scobee at 7:27 to deadlock the contest at 3-3 and send the game into overtime, the first in the WCHA semifinals since 2017.

• Skaggs winning goal came off a rebound of a Liz Schepers shot and sent OSU to the WCHA's championship game for just the second time in program history.

The Patty Kaz Watch is ON: Wisconsin's Abby Roque has moved on in the race for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, being chosen as one of the Top-3 Finalists for the honor. The senior forward joins the company of Clarkson's Elizabeth Giguère and Northeastern's Alina Mueller

Four WCHA skaters were selected as top-10 finalists for the 2020 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award. A trio of Wisconsin forwards earned the nod as junior Daryl Watts, sophomore Sophie Shirley and senior Abby Roque each made the exclusive list. They are joined by Ohio State junior forward Emma Maltais, who is the first Buckeye to make the top 10 since the 2011-2012 season. The list will be narrowed down to the top-3 candidates before the annual winner selected by a 13-person committee and then crowned at the Frozen Four on March 21.

SportsCenter Top 10: Daryl Watts' extra-point-earning breakaway goal in Wisconsin's 3-on-3 overtime win against Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, Feb. 22 was tabbed as the number one play on SportCenter's notorious segment. Her inclusion marks the second time this season a WCHA skater has seen herself in SportCenter's spotlight as Minnesota's Amy Potomak earned the nod on Nov. 3, 2019. She scored the shootout-winning goal in Minnesota's 2-2 overtime contest with Wisconsin, slotting the puck through Kristen Campbell's five-hole to give the Gopher the extra league point.

Leaders on the Ice: With four teams ranked in the Top 10 coming from the WCHA, it comes as no surprise that WCHA teams and individuals from WCHA schools are among the best in the nation.

Wisconsin junior forward Daryl Watts paces the NCAA in points, recording 74 on 25 goals and 49 assists in 36 games for 2.06 points per game. Teammates Sophie Shirley and Abby Roque join Watts in the top ten nationally in point scoring as Shirley is fifth after tallying 29 goals and 32 assists for 61 points and Roque is seventh after recording 26 goals and 32 assists for 58 points.

Ohio State's Emma Maltais joins her fellow Patty Kaz finalists in the top 10, checking in at sixth with 59 points on 19 goals and 40 helpers. She is followed by Minnesota Duluth's Gabbie Hughes who is 10th in the country after picking up 51 points on 20 goals and 31 assists.

Wisconsin's Abby Roque leads the NCAA in faceoff wins and sits in second in plus/minus. The senior forward has won 523 faceoffs for the Badgers, giving her a faceoff win percentage of 65.6. Minnesota's Abigail Boreen has the fifth-best faceoff win percentage in the nation, boating a 62.8 clip on 93 wins in 148 attempts at the dot.

Minnesota State touts top-tier shot blocking as the Mavericks are third in the nation with 632 blocks as a team. Individually, Anna Wilgren ranks fifth in the NCAA with 96 blocks and Tristen Truax and McKenzie Sederberg sit tied for eighth with 83. Bemidji State's Tina Kampa also ranks in the top 10 nationally, with Kampa notching 100 blocks to claim fourth in the country. She posted 24 blocks in the WCHA Quarterfinal series against Minnesota Duluth, with a whopping 14 taking place during the Feb. 29 four-overtime contest.

Three fellow WCHA skaters crop up in the top 15. Mak Langei (Bemidji State) ranks 11th with 81 and Maggie Flaherty (Minnesota Duluth) is tied for 12th with 80 blocks.

St. Cloud State's Klára Hymlárová led all WCHA freshman in points with 26 on eight goals and 18 helpers. Minnesota State's Kelsey King ranked second with 22 points on six goals and 16 assists. Fellow league newcomers Reece Hunt (Bemidji State), Olivia Cvar (St. Cloud State) and Madeline Wethington (Minnesota) at just behind the duo in the point standings with 19, 15 and 16 respectively. Hunt is the only league rookie to record a hat trick this season

while Wethington touts the best plus/minus of any freshman in both the WCHA at +18. Cvar leads the league in goals and power-play goals scored by a newcomer with 10 tallies, two of which came on the man-advantage.

Resetting School Records: Ohio State's Emma Maltais became the Buckeyes record holder for points in a single season on Saturday, Feb. 22 as she added her third assist of the weekend for her fifth point in the series to reach 55 total points and surpass the previous record of 54. She continued on to take over the single-season assist record with a helper on the lone goal against Minnesota State on Saturday, Feb. 29 to move her total to 39. The junior forward currently sits at 19 goals and 40 assists for 59 points on the season.

Wisconsin's Daryl Watts also wrote herself into the record books, becoming the Badgers record holder for single-season assists. The junior forward tallied four helpers Feb. 22 and 24 to push her 2019-2020 total to 49, besting the previous record of 48 shared by Meghan Duggan (2010-11) and Sara Bauer (2006-07).

Bench-Boss Milestones: Bemidji State's Jim Scanlan achieved 100 career victories on Saturday, Feb. 29 when the Beavers bested Minnesota Duluth 2-1 in a four-overtime contest that became the longest game in WCHA history and the second-longest in NCAA records. Scanlan is the first coach in Bemidji's program history to achieve the milestone.

Minnesota head coach Brad Frost reached the 400 career-win mark on Saturday, Feb. 22 as the Gophers recorded a 3-0 victory over visiting Minnesota State. He ranks fifth among NCAA women's ice hockey coaches with 400 or more victories.

Earlier this season, Wisconsin head coach Mark Johnson achieved 500 career victories on Oct. 18 as the Badgers crushed LIU 10-2. The Badger bench boss is the first NCAA women's ice hockey head coach to record 500 wins.

badgersuniversiTy of Wisconsin

• The No. 2/2 Badgers open NCAA tournament play on Saturday with a showdown with No. 7/7 Clarkson at LaBahn Arena. Puck drop between UW and CU is set for 2:07 p.m. CT and the game sold out within minutes on Monday morning.

• The Badgers are no strangers to Clarkson, as the two schools met in the 2019 NCAA Frozen Four semifinal, a game UW won 5-0. It marks the third time in the last four seasons the Badgers and Golden Knights will meet in the NCAA tournament as Clarkson handed UW a loss in the 2017 NCAA title game in St. Charles, Missouri.

• UW, the WCHA regular-season champions, is coming off of a split at the WCHA Final Faceoff as the Badgers defeated UMD, 4-1, on Saturday before suffering a 1-0 overtime setback to Ohio State in the WCHA championship contest.

• The Badgers are eyeing their seventh-straight NCAA Frozen Four appearance, which would not only extend the longest active streak in the NCAA, but would break the record for the longest streak in NCAA women’s hockey history.

• UW is 25-8 in NCAA tournament games and has won its last 12 NCAA quarterfinal contests.

• Wisconsin enters the weekend with an 28-5-3 record this year. UW leads the country in scoring offense, averaging 4.59 goals per game, while UW’s scoring defense ranks in the top 10, holding opponents to an average of 1.76 goals per game.

• UW has won a WCHA-best eight Final Faceoff titles and has won four of the past five league tournaments.

• Abby Roque was named a top-three finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award on Tuesday as the senior alternate captain is enjoying a fantastic season for UW. She ranks seventh in the country in points with 59 and in the top-10 in both goals (26) and assists (32) while her 523 faceoff wins pace the country. Roque has moved into ninth place in school history in scoring with 170 points. In addition, her 114 assists rank No. 7 in program history as she became only the eighth Badger to tally 100 career assists.

• Junior Daryl Watts, the 2018 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winner, leads the country in points (74) and assists (49). Her 74 points this year rank eighth in program history while her 49 assists are the most in school history. Her 49 assists this year rank No. 9 in NCAA history as she looks to become only the eight NCAA women’s hockey player to tally 50 assists in a single season.

• Wisconsin holds three of the top 10 scorers in the nation as Daryl Watts leads with 74, Sophie Shirley ranks fifth with 61 points and Abby Roque ranks seventh with 58 points.

• UW is the only school in the country with three 50+ point scorers and this marks the first time since the 2011-12 season that Wisconsin has had three or more players with 50+ points.
