TIVET is a acronym form indicating Technical,

Industrial, Vocational and EntrepreneurshipTraining. It covers components of: -

Technical Training Industrial Training

Vocational Training

Entrepreneurship Training

Each being a wholesome training subsystemwith a distinct curriculum process.



Academic and vocational preparation of students for jobs involving applied science and moderntechnology.

It emphasizes the understanding and practical

application of basic principles of science andmathematics.

Prepares graduates for occupations that are classed

above the skilled crafts but below the scientific orengineering professions.

People so employed are frequently called technicians



Students build their careers from apprenticeships The employer helps the apprentice learn their

trade, in exchange for their continuing labour foran agreed period after they become skilled.

These persons are trained in basic skills required todo jobs of say operator or a craftsman.

The theoretical knowledge and skills are taught

informally at either the workplace or formally byattending vocational schools

The employer meets the cost of such training



It prepares learners for jobs that are based in

manual or practical activities

It is traditionally non-academic and totally related

to a specific trade, occupation or vocation This means that the learner participates and

attains proficiency in manual skills.



Entrepreneurship training seeks to providestudents with knowledge, skills and motivation toencourage establishment of successfulenterprises in a variety of settings. It aims at: - Upgrading the social and economic status of self

employment as a career alternative;

Stimulating entrepreneurial attributes in the young inTIVET trainees;

Facilitating the development of entrepreneurial ideas; Promoting the overall development on an enterprise

culture into the country;



The goal of TIVET is to provide and promote life-

long education and training for self-reliance.

This means providing equitable access to good

quality skills training relevant to the labourmarket



Developing appropriate skills at all levels through

practical training and work experience.

Providing adequate skilled manpower at all levels

of the economy. Promoting active and continuous transfer of

technology through collaborative approacheswith relevant industries.

Providing increased training opportunities for theincreasing number of school leavers.

The minimum entry requirements is KCSE minimumgrade C (plain) with a bias in TIVET subjects those taking

technology courses. Those with no TIVET subjects must have attained C

(plain) in Mathematics, English and Physics as an addedrequirement for entry in those courses.

Those who wish to further their studies will joinundergraduate courses offered in TIVET University at the2nd year.
