Who is this qualification for?
This vocational Level 2 qualification is intended for learners who require a Level 2 engineering
qualification to provide them with a broad base of engineering understanding. It is intended for 14
-16 learners completing a vocational engineering qualification as a part of their school curriculum.
What does it cover?
A broad range of engineering skills including, CAD, electronics, mechanical engineering,
maintenance, fabrication and welding, pipework installation, installing security systems and motor
vehicle maintenance.
What is this qualification?
This qualification meets the requirements of the Wolf report and is suitable for delivery in schools. It is included in the 2015 DFE Key Stage 4 Performance Tables list and has the equivalence of one GCSE. The learner must complete three mandatory units and choose three optional units from thirty one optional units to suit local requirements.
How is the qualification delivered?
This is delivered via a blended mix of workshop and classroom activities, with an emphasis on practical activities.
Where does this qualification lead?
This qualification provides an excellent base for progression to a range of Level 3 engineering
qualifications and also into employment and apprenticeships.

The following materials are available for this qualification: Qualification manual - which has been designed to provide an assessment centre with the
advice and guidance needed to manage and implement the qualification, e.g. qualification design and structure, setting and marking a synoptic assessment and competence requirements of the deliverers etc.
Delivery Packs – one for each unit that is for use by the delivery staff and includes all the
unit documentation. Learner Packs - These contain only the internal assessment documentation necessary for
the candidate, e.g. the candidate instructions, results tables, assessor checklists and question papers etc. for each unit.
How is the qualification assessed?
This qualification is assessed by: An on-screen external examination for the three mandatory units: consisting of a single one
hour 40 question MCQ examination that covers the assessment criteria of all three mandatory units.
All optional units have EAL provided task and/or questions papers with assessment
checklists and answers. Two centre devised and marked synoptic assessments that bring together the learning
across the unit chosen by the learner. The results from all the above assessments are brought together to produce the overall grading for the qualification from pass merit and distinction.
