FOREWORD
In Muharram 1434 on the day of Jumuah, a Bukhaari Khatam was
held at Malboro Jaame Masjid after Maghrib Salaah. Hadhrat
Maulana conducted the Jumuah Bayaan wherein Hadhrat
stressed on the importance of following the Deen of Islam and
Shariah, as it was revealed over 1400 years ago in its pristine
purity without any adulteration. Hadhrat emphasised that this is
the only Deen acceptable to Allah and not any other modern
form of Deen.
After Maghrib, Hadhrat Maulana conducted the Bukhaari Khatam
explaining the importance of sincerity, the need for Wahiy
(divine revelation), the harms of secularism and the need for
one’s Islaah even though one may be an Aalim of Deen.
May Allah accept Hadhrat Maulana’s effort and grant us the
Taufeeq to practise. Ameen.

JUMUAH BAYAAN-MARLBORO JUMUAH MASJID
I will read a few couplets and translate them and I plead to
everyone to keep these couplets in mind throughout the Bayaan.
The Bayaan will then prove to be more beneficial Insha-Allah. We
will also understand the purpose and the object of the Bayaan.
These couplets are,
ا ےہ رضور
.ایک دن رمن
Ehk din marnaa he Zuroor
“One day we will definitely have to die.”
ا ےہ ایک دن تیم
ان
رضور ق م ر ا ں ان
Ehk din mayyit koh qabr meh ootarna he Zuroor
“One day the deceased will definitely be lowered into the grave.”
رضور وےسی رھبین ےسیج رکین
Jese karne woh yese bahrne Zuroor
“As we lived our lives, so will we be rewarded without any doubt.”
ONE DAY WE WILL HAVE TO DIE, OUR BODIES WILL BE
LOWERED INTO THE QABR, AND WE WILL THEN GET THE
REPAYMENT OF OUR ACTIONS.

OBJECT OF ONE’S LIFE
We have not come into this world to pass our life. If a person
experiences some form of difficulty, some of us might say, “Now
he is finished, he is gone.” This may not be the case. We have not
come into this world so we can have big bank balances, big
houses, etc. The Dunya is a temporary abode. The real life is the
Akhiraah. We have come to the Dunya to prepare for our
Akhiraah so that we can live it up in Jannah forever.
A person would be foolish to live it up in this Dunya but he
suffers in the Akhiraah. A person who makes reservations in an
exclusive hotel and lives it up for one night but he has to pay the
bill for the rest of his life is a foolish man. Therefore we have not
come to this Dunya just to live it up but we have come to prepare
for the Akhiraah.
Islam is a balanced religion. Islam does not prohibit us from
Dunya. We are allowed to get married, have children, have
businesses, etc. but these things are secondary and not the
objective of our life. Our object is the Akhirat. We have to attend
to the Dunya according to our needs and necessities. We should
set our minds accordingly and understand our objective, of the
Dunya.
Page 7
I will repeat those couplets:
ا ےہ رضور
ایک دن رمن
Ehk din marnaa he Zuroor
“One day we will definitely have to die.”
ا ےہ رضور
ان
ایک دن تیم ق م ر ا ں ان
Ehk din mayyit koh qabr meh ootarna he Zuroor
“One day the deceased will definitely be lowered in the grave.”
ےسیج رکین وےسی رھبین رضور
“As we lived our lives, so will we be rewarded without any
doubt.”
Let us keep these couplets in mind throughout the Bayaan.
In the verse of the Quraan-e-Paak which I have recited, Allah
says,
اإلسالم إن الدين عند الل
Definitely the only way of life acceptable to Allah is Islam
Page 8
WHAT IS DEEN
This is a very famous verse and it is not difficult to understand
and it is easy to translate. Many people would translate it as,
“Undoubtedly the Deen by Allah is Islam.” However this is not
a translation but a repetition of the Arabic words. In Arabic the
word is Deen and we also translate it as Deen. What is Deen? We
translate the word Deen as religion. It is correct but it is a very
narrow meaning of religion.
In fact shaytaan and our enemies (the agents of shaytaan) want
us to understand, Deen is religion.
In which context and how?
They want us to understand that religion is one department of
your life. A person will do all other activities such as, one will be a
businessman, a husband, a housewife, etc. and being a Muslim
will be one department of one’s life.
An example of this is, we have come for Jumuah. Many people do
not wear Topis normally? But now for Jumuah they will wear a
Topi. If we are wearing a short sleeve shirt, then we will take a
Jubba from the Masjid and wear it, if we wear our trousers below
our ankles, then we will fold it up (above the ankles) because we
are in the department of Deen thus we will conform to Deen.
However when we leave this department and go back to our
businesses or our jobs, we will take off our Topi and lower our
trousers because we are no longer in the department of Deen.
Whilst we were in the department of Deen we accepted Deen.
Similarly during the month of Ramadaan, we become super
Muslims. When we go for Haj and Umrah, we become even more
Page 9
super Muslims. We excel in our Ibadat. When we return to our
businesses or when we are on the sports grounds we are just like
everyone else. We have made Deen one department of our life
and this is incorrect.
What is Deen? Deen is a complete way of life. A person should be
a Muslim at all times, whether he is in the Masjid, in the house, in
the privacy of his bedroom, in the business etc. it is a complete
way of life, which Allah requires from us.
إن الدين عند الل اإلسالم Definitely the only way of life acceptable to Allah is Islam
Then we translate the word Islam? Normally, we regard it to be a
religion. The Deen or religion which is accepted by Allah is
Islam. This is in contrast to Christianity, Hinduism and Judaism.
What is really the word Islam? Islam is total submission to
Allah, with our minds and our hearts. Therefore the correct
translation of this Ayat would be:
“The way of life which is accepted by Allah, is total submission to
Allah.”
For example, the days of Qurbani have passed and many of us
have made our Qurbani, Alhamdulillah. When we slaughtered we
also read this Ayat,
ق ل إن صالت ون س كي ومياي ومات لل رب العالمي “Say, Verily my Salaah, my slaughtering, my living and my dying is
for Allah Rabb of the universe”
Page 10
REALITY OF DEEN
If we made Qurbani in the true sense then the reality would have
come into us. However, if we only slaughtered an animal and we
did not find the reality of Qurbani then such a Qurbani will not
change anything in our life.
Another example, fasting is one thing and to stay hungry is
something else. Unfortunately many of us stay hungry in
Ramadaan and we regard Ramadaan to be a burden upon us. We
do not get any enjoyment in Ramadaan, but if we keep Roza (in
the true sense of the word), then it will be different.
A material example is, a person asks his son to open the shop for
him but he is not interested in the business. It doesn’t matter
whether there are customers or not, whether there are goods or
not, he is not concerned. This will be just opening and closing the
shop but doing business is something else. A person that makes a
profit in the business will encounter many problems but he will
continue trading because he is earning a profit in his business. If
one just opens and closes his shop, he will be wasting his time.
Similarly, keeping Roza and staying hungry are two different
things. Slaughtering an animal and making Qurbani are two
different things. If we make Qurbani with the spirit of Qurbani,
that is to sacrifice everything for Allah, then we will derive
enjoyment in Qurbani.
Deen is a complete way of life and that is to totally surrender
oneself and become submissive to Allah. We all know, this is
an Ayat of the Quraan Sharif which was revealed over 1400 years
ago. The Islam which Allah is speaking of in this Ayat is the
Page 11
Islam of more than 1400 years ago, which is the only way of life
that is acceptable by Allah.
In another Ayat, Allah says,
ومن يبتغ غري االسالم دينا فلن يقبل منه
And any person who chooses any other way of life besides total
submission to Allah, it won’t be accepted from him.
هو ىف االخرة من اخلسرينو
He will be amongst the real losers in the Akhirat, and the loss of the
Akhirat is a serious loss.
THE ISLAM OF RASULULLAH IS THE ONLY
ACCEPTABLE ISLAM
In the Akhirat there is either Jannah or Jahanam. There is no in-
between. In the world we will find some people who are super
rich, yet they spend very little. We will find many people who do
not even have enough to survive upon. Then we have a category
who earn a salary and live comfortably but they are not rich nor
are they poor.
In the hereafter, a person will either be super rich in Jannah or he
will be super poor in Jahannam. A person will receive the great
enjoyments of Jannah or the tortures and suffering of Jahannam.
It is not a matter of just living in this world and taking Islam
casually. If a Muslim attends Jumuah once a week and performs
Salaah etc. such a Muslim does not have any real concern of the
Akhiraah. This is the Islam, we are following. The Islam which
Page 12
Allah requires is that Islam which Allah gave to Rasulullah
1400 years ago.
If we present a new model of Islam to Allah today, whether it
be a Turkish model, Saudi Salafi model or any other model it will
be unacceptable. The model acceptable to Allah is the model
which was given to Rasulullah and we should be extremely
thankful that such a model still exists with us, from the era of
Rasulullah . It has been conveyed throughout the world over
this period of 1400 years via the Sahaaba , Taabi’een, Tabi
Taabi’een, the great Imaams of Fiqh such as, Imaan Abu Hanifa ,
the great Muhaditheen such as Imaam Bukhaari and many
other great Ulama and in our era by Mufti Sanjalvi Saheb and
other great Ulama which are present here today.
They brought that Islam which Allah says, He is going to
accept and all other new models of Islam are unacceptable by
Allah. What I am explaining is, that we have to stick to that
original model of Islam and not initiate any new model. Our
salvation lies in the original model of Islam which Rasulullah
brought to us. Otherwise, if we are going to embrace some new
models this will not be accepted by Allah .
As an example, if one likes Coca Cola, this is an example,
otherwise I do not like to take the name Coca-Cola. It is one
hundred percent poison and detrimental for the health. One of
our friends once took off his Topi and showed me a hole at the
back of his head the size of a tennis ball. He said this is the evil
and the harm of Coca Cola. All fizzy drinks especially Coke and
Pepsi contain huge contents of sugar and various other harmful
ingredients.
Page 13
Anyway, I am just giving an example. If a person adds black
vinegar inside a Coca Cola bottle and presents it to somebody.
The person will get very upset as the label reads Coca Cola but it
contains black vinegar. It looks like Coca Cola but it is not Coca
Cola. Likewise, if we have the name and label of Islam, it will be
more bitter than black vinegar and it will be unacceptable by
Allah just as a friend will not accept the vinegar in a falsely
labelled bottle.
Allah says in the Quraan Sharif,
فلن يقبل منه
It will never be accepted from him.
A persons label is Islam, his name is Muhammad or Yusuf, her
name is Fatima, Amina, etc. then keep that same label inside. Do
not have an Islamic label on the outside yet something else on the
inside. What is your label of Islam? It is that Islam which Allah
requires from us, which was given to Rasulullah. This is the
Deen which the Sahaba practised and the Ulama have given it
to us in a plate, ready for us to practise upon.
Like the couplet I have quoted, we will all have to die. When we
are in our Qabr, we will be asked about the original Islam and if
we go with any other type of Islam then we will have to suffer the
consequences. We will say the Ulama addressed us every Jumuah
but they did not inform us and now we have to suffer. Therefore,
it is the duty of the Ulama to inform you so that you are prepared
when you enter the grave. If we have weakness in our A’mal then
we need to make Tauba and Istighfaar but we should not change
our route.
Page 14
If a pilot of an aeroplane is one degree off from his landing point,
forget missing the airport or the landing strip, he will even miss
the country. He will land in the sea or in the jungle. If we move
one degree away from Shariah and the Islam which Allah had
given Rasulullah then we will land somewhere and what then
will be the condition when we enter Qabr. We should regard this
as a very serious matter.
ISLAM DOES NOT NEED A FACELIFT
Another example is that of a person that is getting married and
somebody buys him a very modern shoe and his friend delivers
the shoe to him the night before his wedding. However when he
fits the shoe, it is too small for him. What must he do? Will he
chop a portion of his toes off to make it fit? No! We will say use
another pair of shoes instead of chopping your toes.
Similarly, if Islam does not fit into modern day society, will we
chop and trim Islam? Will we use certain portions of Islam and
remove certain portions, will we remove the beard and Purda
from Islam and fit into the modern world? No! We must keep the
old Islam. Stretch your shoe or purchase a bigger size. Likewise,
we will not fit Islam into the modern world nor will we chop and
trim Islam to suit the modern day lifestyle to please people,
whether it is America, Israel, etc. we will not change our Islam to
suit them. We will pull Islam from the camel age and the modern
world will have to conform to this Islam.
A person came with his family from the village to the city. He had
never experienced city life. He went to a supermarket with his old
wife. He saw the door of a lift open and thought that the wall is
opening up. He wondered, “What is happening here?” He observed
very carefully, he saw an old lady go inside and the wall closed
Page 15
again. He was shocked! A woman went into the wall and it closed.
After a while the wall opened again and a young lady came out. He
sent his grandson to call his old wife quickly, so we can send her in
and she will come out as a new model.
We cannot give Islam a facelift. We cannot say that Islam is old
fashioned, we cannot say it is the camel age Islam or the stone-
age Islam. There is nothing as fresh, and modern and beautiful as
the Islam which Allah gave to Rasulullah. Must we change
our pure Islam to fit into the modern day nudity, drugs, rape and
crime? It can never happen!
Islam is a beautiful way of life and only this Islam is going to give
us salvation in the Aakhirah. Again I will quote these couplets.
ا ےہ رضور
ایک دن رمن
Ehk din marnaa he Zuroor
One day we will definitely have to die.”
ا ےہ رضور
ان
ایک دن تیم ق م ر ا ں ان
Ehk din mayyit koh ootarna he Zuroor
“One day the deceased will definitely be lowered in the grave.”
ےسیج رکین وےسی رھبین رضور
Jese karne woh yese bahrne Zuroor
“As we lived our lives, so will we be rewarded without any doubt?”
Page 16
DECEPTION WILL BE EXPOSED IN THE QABR
The life of this world is sixty or seventy years but the life of the
Akhirat is forever. If we failed in our sixty or seventy years in this
Dunya, we are going to face eternal failure in the Akhirat. It is not
just a matter of death and it is all over. In this world we can
deceive people with an outward look of piety by wearing a Topi,
beard, Kurta and act very pious but our internal condition will be
exposed at the time of death.
ل ما ف الصد ور وح ص
What lies hidden within the chest is going to be exposed
If one owns a parrot and teaches it the Azaan, teaches it to make
Zikr, to make Salaam, etc. the parrot will do all of this the whole
day. However when the parrot is caught by a cat or the dog, it will
forget everything and it will utter that which is within its heart
and that is the sounds “Te, Te, Te.”
May Allah protect us at the time of death? What is a dog or cat
in comparison to “Malikul Maut,” who will come to us in a much
more frightening manner? If we haven’t registered “La-ilaha-
illalah” in the heart then everything else will be uttered at the
time of death. If we fail here it is eternal failure and if we pass
then it is eternal success in the hereafter.
OUR SOLUTION IS TO HOLD ON TO THE ISLAM OF
RASULULLAH DEARLY
My dear brothers! This is a very serious matter. We are faced
with Fitnas from all sides, internally and externally. New
challenges face us daily. The solution to these challenges is that
we hold firmly to that Islam which Allah gave to Rasulullah
Page 17
and as I mentioned if we are weak in our A’maal, we must make
Tauba and Istighfaar.
لم كآفة وال ت تبع وا خ ط وات الشيطان إنه لك م ع د و مبين ي أي ها الذين آمن وا ادخ ل وا ف السO you who have Imaan! Enter into Islam completely and do not
follow in the footsteps of Shaytaan for he is certainly your open
enemy.
Enter fully into this type of Islam, let us not be impressed by
outward beautiful forms, by new slogans and new words, etc. Let
us stick to that Islam which Allah wants from us. It is the only
Islam acceptable by Allah .
May Allah bless us to live and die by it and may Allah raise
us on it. Ameen!

WHY HAVE WE BEEN SENT TO THIS WORLD?
Tonight, we are greatly honoured to have the Khatam of Bukhaari
Sharif, which is the graduation of the Aalim course.
Allah has sent us in the world to prepare for the Akhirah.
الدنيا مزرعة االخرة
The world is a plantation of the hereafter!
How do we prepare for the Akhirah (hereafter)?
We only have knowledge of life in this world, we know how to
build a house, we know about our food, our cars etc.
Page 19
How will we come to know of the Akhirah. How would we have
known what will happen when we die? How would we have
known that there is life after death?
Allah sent the Quraan Sharif to Rasulullah and that is our
Kitaab of guidance. The Quraan Sharif is of a very high level and
nature to such an extent it is not even easy for the Ulama to
understand the Quraan Sharif.
Allah sent the Ambiya and finally Imaamul Ambiya (leader
of all the Messengers) Muhammad to explain the Quraan Sharif.
Rasulullah explained the Quraan Sharif verbally and
practically.
ن خلقه القرانكا
The character, the life of Rasulullah was the Quraan Sharif.
This is the basis of our preparation for the Akhirah, for which
Allah has sent us into the world. We should remove all forms
of doubt from our mind that we are in the world to enjoy the
worldly life, rather we are in this world solely and only to
prepare for the hereafter.
Dunya is a necessity and we have to attend to the necessities of
life, but the object of our life is not Dunya. For example, we use a
Garmin to reach our destination. When we have reached the
destination, we do not require the Garmin anymore.
Similarly, we require the Dunya to fulfil our needs. We are human
and therefore we have to eat, drink and we also have permissible
desires, which we have to fulfil, so we use the Dunya to fulfil
these needs. However, our object is to reach our destination
Page 20
which is to acquire the pleasure of Allah, to recognise Allah,
to prepare for the Akhirah and ultimately enter Jannah.
Allah has given us the Quraan Sharif and the explanation
which is the Hadith Sharif.
BUKHAARI SHARIF DISCUSSES ALL THE ASPECTS OF
DEEN
Amongst the Kitaabs of Hadith is the Kitaab of Muhammad bin
Ismail Al Bukhaari (rahimahullah) which is the most authentic
book after the Quraan Sharif - this is the Kitaab that will be
completed by these students, just as the students of every Darul-
Uloom in the world complete this Kitaab. This Kitaab is referred
to as a ‘Jaami’. ‘Jaami’ is that Kitaab that contains every aspect of
Deen. When the students studied Tafseer (commentary) of
Quraan Sharif and translation of the Quraan Sharif, they had
studied the entire Deen.
The Darul Ulooms are those blessed and honourable places,
where Deen is alive in totality up to this very day, even though it
may be only in teaching the theory such as capital punishment
(i.e. stoning to death, and flogging a person for committing
adultery, etc.) There are certain places in the world where capital
punishment still exists but there are many other aspects of Deen
which are non-existent. However, Alhamdulillah, these aspects of
Deen are being taught in the Darul Ulooms such as running an
Islamic country, Islamic law and judgment, Islamic business
principles etc.
In the Quraan Sharif Allah says,
ي أي ها الرس ول ب لغ ما أ نزل إليك من ربك وإن ل ت فعل فما ب لغت رسالته
Page 21
Oh Rasool, propagate what has been revealed to you from your
Rabb, and if you do not do so, then you have not conveyed Allah’s
message.
It is your duty to convey Deen to the next generation. Rasulullah
completed this task in such a perfect manner that when
Sahabah were questioned by Rasulullah ,
“Have I conveyed the message to you?”
They responded,
مة وكشفت الغمةقد بلغت الرسالة واديت االمانة ونصحت اال
Certainly, you have conveyed the message, discharged the
responsibility which you were entrusted with, you were a well-
wisher to the Ummah and you have removed all forms of darkness.
Rasulullah responded by saying,
اللهم اشهد اللهم اشهد
Oh Allah! You bear witness. Oh Allah! You bear witness (that I have
conveyed the message)
The Sahaaba gave evidence on the planes of Arafah. So, it is the
duty of every Aalim who is an inheritor of the Messengers to
convey the complete Deen.
THE RESPONSIBILITY TO PROPAGATE DEEN!
It is the duty of every Muslim parent to play their role as a parent
and give Deen to their children and to the future generations.
Teach them Deen, make them practise upon Deen, make their
Page 22
hearts and mind Islaamically orientated and not western
orientated - which is to love the west, their fashion, lifestyle, etc.
As the Ummatis of Rasulullah, it is our duty to pass on Deen to
the next generation as our parents have passed Deen on to us.
Only in this way will Islam be perpetuated and carry on. If we fail
in our duty and do not pass it on to the next generation, we will
not have Islam.
As Ulama, parents and as a community, it is our duty to pass on
the Deen of Islam, whether we are Mutawallis (caretakers) of the
Masjid or the responsible people of the town. Propagating Deen
is our primary duty. We will be counted from amongst those that
have fulfilled their responsibility if we convey Deen in all its
three facets:
1. We must convey the Knowledge of Deen.
2. We must practice on Deen.
3. The heart and mind must also become “Deendar” (Muslim
orientated).
Then only have we fulfilled our duty.
IMPORTANCE OF SINCERITY
Imaam Bukhaari (rahimahullah) explained one of the most
important aspects of Deen in the beginning of his kitaab which is
Niyyat (i.e. we must have sincerity in all that we do). Sincerity of
intention is a requirement for every person in all his actions.
For example, if we add zero plus zero it will equal to zero, if we
add one hundred zeros to zero, we still have zero. However, if
you place the number one in front of the zero we will get ten, if
Page 23
we add another zero it will become hundred, if we add another
zero it will become one thousand, if we add another zero it will
become ten thousand, etc. the value will continue increasing.
Likewise, if we add one Niyyat (intention) of Ikhlaas (sincerity) in
front then you will be doing A’mal (actions) with sincerity. If a
person’s actions are void of sincerity then the actions of such a
person will be like particles of dust on the day of Qiyamah as
explained in the Quraan Sharif,
هباء منثورا
Particles of dust!
The actions of a person will be brought before him on the day of
Qiyamah. The A’mal of a person without Ikhlaas (sincerity) is like
a person whose house was locked for a long time, six months or a
year. When he opens the house, it is full of dust. When he strikes
the dust with a duster, all the dust flies away.
Similarly, A’mal carried out without sincerity will be hit once and
all the A’mal will fly away. Imaam Bukhaari has drawn our
attention to this very important aspect. We must have Ikhlaas in
all our A’mal whether we are running Darul-Ulooms, teaching,
learning, etc. Without Ikhlaas (sincerity), our A’mal will fly away
leaving it valueless.
AN IMPORTANT DUA TAUGHT TO US BY RASULULLAH
Rasulullah said,
“If a pitch black ant moves in a pitch black night, on a pitch black
stone, nobody will hear the movement of the ant, neither will
Page 24
anyone see the ant. More secretly than that will ostentation come
into the heart of a person?”
وهم ال يشعرون
And they won’t even know (that they are inflicted with this disease
of ostentation.)
Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah reward him) said,
“Oh messenger of Allah, , in that case we will all be destroyed.
The Salaah, Zakaat, Haj, Charity, carried out during one’s lifetime
will be destroyed.”
Rasulullah taught them a Dua to recite which will protect them
from all forms of ostentation.
قليله وكثريه
Whether a person possesses a little or a lot
صغريه وكبريه
The small and the big.
ظاهره وابطنه
What is manifest and what is hidden?
Page 25
The Dua is as follows,
اللهم اىن اعوذبك ان اشرك بك شيئا واان اعلم واستغفرك ملا ال اعلم
Oh Allah! I seek refuge in You from ascribing any partners to You
knowingly and I seek Your forgiveness from that which I am
unaware of.
By the blessings of this Dua, Inshallah, we will gain one hundred
percent sincerity. However, Ikhlaas is a whole chapter of its own.
Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi takes Qasm (an oath) and says,
Ikhlaas (sincerity) will not come into a person unless he stays in
the company of Ahlullah and Mashaaikh.
It is a different thing that a person thinks that he is sincere.
Whether a person is really sincere or not is a separate issue
which he will find out in the Qabr. So it is very, very important
that we develop this quality of sincerity, which comes only by
remaining in the company of those people who have sincerity.
When a person attains sincerity, then only, will a person be
rewarded for his actions. Imaam Bukhaari has stressed on the
importance of sincerity and many Muhaditheen have started
their Kitaabs with the same Riwayat (narration) of Sincerity.
IMPORTANCE OF WAHIY
Imam Bukhaari starts the next chapter of his Kitaab,
”يه وسلمكيف كان بدئ وحى رسول هللا صلى هللا عل“
How did the revelation of Wahiy commence?
Page 26
Why is Wahiy important? Imaam Bukhaari had compiled his
Kitaab approximately 1200 years ago yet it informs us of all
forms of Fitnas that will come till the day of Qiyamah. If we study
Bukhaari Sharif properly then an Aalim will have the answer to
every Fitnah that will appear. He will also have an answer to the
most modernist people and the atheistic minded people. All the
answers are in Bukhaari Sharif.
In the verse of the Quraan Sharif that I recited Allah states that
Ibrahim made the syllabus for Rasulullah. What will the
work of Rasulullah be when he comes into the world?
Three things have been mentioned in the verse of the Quraan
Sharif,
يتلوا عليهم ايتك
He will recite Your verses to them
To learn, teach, and recite the Quraan Sharif. This is done in our
Maktabs (primary Madressahs) where the Quraan Sharif is
taught to the children.
ويعلمهم الكتاب واحلكمة
Teach them the book and wisdom
Where Quraan and Hadith is taught that is the Darul-Ulooms.
And then the third duty is
ويزكيهم
And He will purify them
Page 27
“Tazkiya-e-Nafs” which we call the department of the Khanqah, of
Islaah and Tazkiya (spiritual rectification)
This verse appears in four places of the Quraan Sharif. In the first
place the Dua of Ibrahim has been brought first. In the other
three places Allah has brought Tilawat (recitation) of Quraan
Sharif first, Tazkiya second and Taleem at the end. Allah has
brought Tazkiya after Tilawat of the Quraan Sharif. Why?
The Ulama explain that the reason for this sequence is that
learning the Quraan Sharif in the Maktab is most important and
then a person will be able to make Tazkiya. What is Tazkiya?
Tazkiya is to get the eyes of the heart opened. The glass that I
have in my hand has got a glassed bottom, therefore water will
not fall out. But if I have to turn the glass around then all the
water will fall out. If I place this glass upside down under the
Niagara Falls or Victoria Falls, not a single drop will go into the
glass. On the other hand, if I place the glass in the correct manner
under such a tap where the water is leaking one drop an hour,
the glass will gradually get filled.
If the glass of the heart is turned upside down, we will read
Bhukari Sharif, Hidayah, Jalalain, Baidawi but the glass will
remain empty, if the glass of the heart is turned up in the correct
manner then see the benefit that we will derive. This is when the
eyes of the heart, the spiritual eyes will be open.
This is the work of the Khanqah, the Ahlulla and the Mashaaikh.
When the spiritual eyes open and then one studies Bukhaari
Sharif, Hidayah and all the other kitaabs, then one will not see
with the eyes of the head but one will see with the eyes of the
heart and the glass will be filled.
Page 28
Imaam Bukhaari explained the importance of “Wahiy” (Divine
revelation from Allah). Wahiy is our means of acquiring
knowledge of Deen and Dunya. There are three basic sources of
knowledge which Allah has given us.
One source is our five senses i.e. seeing, speaking, hearing,
touching and smelling. With our eyes we are able to differentiate
between lights, a fan, etc. We acquire a lot of knowledge from
these five senses which Allah blessed us with.
ع واالبصار واالفئدةوجعل لكم السم
And He blessed you with ears, eyes and a heart
Allah made all this by which we acquire knowledge.
Another major faculty by which we acquire detailed and
sophisticated knowledge is by means of the brains that is, by
reasoning. We reason using our intellect and intelligence. We are
able to calculate, make equations, make formulas and develop
many things. We fly aeroplanes, go in submarines. We
communicate with people overseas, etc.
These two sources of acquiring knowledge are very limited. We
cannot use our brains to determine what is going to happen in
the Qabr, what is required on the day of Qiyamah, what is Jannat,
what is Jahannam?
Therefore the third most important source of knowledge is
Wahiy (divine revelation) which Allah sent.
Imaam Bukhaari is referring to this form of knowledge.
Page 29
WHAT IS SECULAR KNOWLEDGE?
Today, we are all seeking secular education. What is secular
education? The education that is in contrast to religious
education is termed as secular education (i.e. that education in
which there is no religion).
Approximately three to four hundred years ago, people in Europe
were governed by the church. Their countries and education
system was also controlled by the church. They broke away and
said, “We have become secular.” We are only living in the world
for enjoyment and love of world. In other words we will live the
life of an animal by doing whatever we want to do, irrespective of
how we get it? In that way they broke away from religious
education. When they broke away from religious education, the
concept of Allah was removed. The concept of Akhirah, Qabr,
and the day of Qiyamah, Jannat and Jahanam were removed.
When they removed religion from education, they were faced
with other challenges and dilemmas.
For example, when they took out Allah from their equation,
then they had to explain, how did this world come into existence?
According to the church and all other religions, Allah created
the heavens and earth.
ي ق ل أئنك م لتكف ر ون ابلذي خلق الرض ف ي ومي وتعل ون له أندادا ذلك رب العالم
Say, do you people really disbelieve in and ascribe partners to the
being Who created the earth in two days? It is He Who is the Rabb
of the universe.
Allah created the heavens and the earth but they removed it. So
how did it come into existence? They coined the theory called,
Page 30
“The big bang theory.” That a very huge bang took place and
everything, not only came into existence but into perfect
existence. A simple answer to that is, if I have to drop a small
glass on tiles or cement there will be a small bang, will the glass
be made or will it break with this small bang? It will break! They
say a big bang took place but things not only got made but got
made perfectly. They had to adopt this theory when they
removed Allah from the equation, the height of stupidity had
settled in.
Unfortunately, this theory is being promoted in the world and not
only amongst the non-Muslims but they are bringing it into our
Muslim schools, colleges and universities. Then they were faced
with another challenge, just very shortly after that, how did
humans come into existence?
HOW DID ALLAH CREATE THE HUMAN BEING?
Allah says,
It is He who created you from sand, then from a drop of fluid, then
from a clot of blood after which Allah had extracted you as a
child. Thereafter (Allah preserves you) to reach your strength
(as an adult) and then to become old, the lives of some of you being
taken first (before reaching old age) and so that you reach your
appointed term and so that you may understand.
يل ق ك م ف ب ط ون أ مهاتك م خلقا من ب عد خلق ف ظ ل مات ثالث
Page 31
Allah creates you in the wombs of your mothers, as a creation after
a creation (taking you through the various stages of foetal
development) in three layers of darkness
They had to create their own answers. Therefore they came up
with, “Darwins theory of evolution.” Man was first a monkey and
then he became a human being. Our Sheikh (Damat
Barakatuhum) gives a simple answer to this,
“In your Kruger National Park you got millions of monkeys. If one
monkey had become a human being, then why till today hasn’t
another monkey become a human being as well?”
A person has three or four children, one became a Hafiz, another
child can also become a Hafiz and in many families all the
children become Huffaz. One son is an Aalim and then another
one also becomes an Aalim. One son is a doctor, another one also
becomes a doctor. So why have we not seen a second monkey
become a human being till today? This is all their monkey
business which is a result of taking Allah out of the equation,
then stupidity and idiocy came into them.
The sad part is, all this is taught in all the universities and they do
PHD’s and doctorates on this. The fossils of monkeys are sold for
billions of pounds in the world. If we study Bukhaari Sharif we
will have the answer to all these things otherwise we will just
read it superficially, if the eyes of the heart are not open. We will
be unable to provide answers to many things.
If we read it with the eyes of the heart, Allah will grant us such
knowledge by which we will be able to extract, like Allamah
Busairi says.
Page 32
هلا معان كموج البحر ىف مدد
Quraan Sharif, has got meanings like the waves of the seas.
وفوق جوهره ىف احلسن والقيم
The beauty of the Quraan is superior to the pearls in the sea in
beauty and value.
We will be able to dive into the depths of Bukhaari and Hidayah,
we will then be able to pull out all those treasures that are there.
That is when the eyes of the heart is open.
KITAAB-UT-TAWHEED
Nevertheless, Imaam Bukhaari then commenced with Kitabul
Imaan and then goes onto the various acts of Ibaadaat and in this
manner he explained the complete Deen. We have completed
studying all these aspects of Deen by our Ustaads, Maulana Yunus
Saheb, Mufti Adam Saheb and all the other Asaatizah. These
Asaatizah have passed the complete knowledge of Deen to the
next generation.
After completing the chapter of Wahiy, Imaam Bukhaari
commenced with the chapter on Imaan, as Imaan is absolutely
important and finally he ends his Kitaab with the chapter of
Tawheed again.
What is Tasawwuf according to the Ahlullah?
Page 33
الرجوع اىل البداية
When you reach the end then return to the beginning.
When you come to the end of Hidayah then you return to the
beginning. Similarly, after completing the various stages of
Tasawwuf by obtaining sincerity, humbleness, removing greed
and pride from your heart, then we will return to “La ilaha
illalah” again and if the end of a person’s life is on “La ilaha
illalah” then it is worth that person’s life. Even though a person is
a great Aalim or a great Buzurg, or a great Hafiz and Qari but the
end of a person’s life has to be on Tawheed, therefore Imaam
Bukhaari brought Kitaabul Tawheed.
In this chapter he refutes the teachings of the Jahmiya, Mua’tazila,
etc. in our terms, these were such people who are the slaves of
their brains. They use their five senses and they have made their
brain their god. In the Quraan Sharif Allah states,
أرأيت من اتذ إهله هواه
Have you seen those that have made their desires their deity?
Hadhrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi was a great personality,
he mentioned in his Malfoozat,
رپ لقع ق اغلب روہک
کت عبب طب
Your desires should be controlled and harnessed with your brains.
Think! Is this good for me or is it bad for me?
Page 34
You may feel like looking at a woman, going out, eating
something but you should use your brains at such a time. If a
person has a heart problem and delicious food is brought in front
of him, he should use his brains and he should not eat even
though he desires to eat as it is not good for his heart.
لب روہکاغ رشتعی ق رپ لقعاور
A person’s brain should be controlled by Quraan and Hadith.
Don’t make your brains your god. These people are worshippers
of their brains. They will only accept that which they understand
with their brains. What they cannot understand with their brains
they will reject. Imaam Bukhaari commences the last chapter
with the verse of Quraan Sharif.
”.ابب القول هلل تعاىل“
ونضع الموازين القسط لي وم القيامة We will place the scale of justice on the day of Qiyamah. (And why
will we place it?)
وان اعمال بىن ادم وقوهلم يوزن
The actions of Bani Adam and their speech will be weighed.
Those people who use their brains say, “How can words be
weighed?” We have just performed the Maghrib Salaah, “How
can Namaaz be weighed?” We keep Roza (fast,) “How are our
Rozas going to be weighed?” We perform Haj, “How is our Haj
going to be weighed?”
Page 35
They raised an objection because they used their brains. If they
accepted Wahiy then they would have known the Qudrat (power)
of Allah.
Allah says in the Quraan Sharif,
إن الل على ك ل شيء قديرن
Verily Allah has power over everything!
FOLLOWING ONE’S DESIRES
We believe in Allah and in the Qudrat (power) of Allah, so
we do not have any objection. These people do not believe
because their source of acquiring knowledge stopped at their
brains. They did not go to the next stage of Wahiy, which is the
greatest source of knowledge which Allah has blessed us with.
Imaam Bukhaari is informing us that the Moududi’s, Salafis,
modernist and all similar types of people till the day of Qiyamah
are primarily the products of their brain worship and want
nothing to do with Wahiy. They will do that which is logical to
them and easy for their Nafs. They feel that you do not have to be
a Hanafi, you are free to follow any Mazhab. If a certain method
suits you today, you can follow that. If another method suits you
tomorrow, you may follow that method.
In essence, you are following your own passions and desires. You
are not following the commands of Allah. Imaam Bukhaari
gave an answer to these people many years ago and he has given
such answers in this kitaab that will suffice till the day of
Qiyamah. Any Aalim who studies like Imaam Bukhaari will
also have the answers. If we studied Bukhaari Sharif without
Page 36
Tazkiyah (spiritual purification), then it is like a person with
cataract of the eye. If he operates on his eye and removes the
cataract he will be able to see clearly.
Likewise, if the eye of our heart is suffering from cataract, then a
person will have to have an operation. There are doctors for this
field as well they are termed as the Mashaikh and Ahlullah. When
they remove the cataract of the eyes of the heart, a person will be
able to see everything clearly.
THE WEIGHING OF ONE’S DEEDS
Imaam Bukhaari has given the answer here, that A’mal will be
weighed. One of the salient features of Bukhaari Sharif is the
"ترمجة الباب"
Imaam Bukhaari has titled his chapter and then proved the
title from the Hadith of Rasulullah. In this instance Imaam
Bukhaari states that our actions and words will be weighed. To
prove this point he has brought the hadith,
"كلمتان"
There are two words
""خفيفتان على اللسان
Which are very light on the tongue.
"ثقيلتان ىف امليزان"
These words will be very heavy on the scale.
Page 37
Imaam Bukhaari has proven that deeds will be weighed and
not only will it be weighed but it will be very weighty and very
heavy on the scale. He has proven from the Hadith of
Rasulullah, that actions and words can be weighed.
Previously Ulama used to get involved in lengthy discussions to
prove that A’mal will be weighed. Nowadays it is easy to prove
because we have various instruments to measure abstract things.
Temperature is abstract and can be measured using a
thermometer. There are instruments that can measure volume, a
person’s blood pressure, cholesterol levels, etc. can be measured.
Doctors send patients for different types of blood tests and
various things are measured.
هل م أنه احلق سن ريهم آيتنا ف الفاق وف أنف سهم حت ي ت ب ي We shall soon show them our Ayaat on the horizons and within
themselves until it becomes clear to them that it (The Quraan) is certainly the truth.
We will show them our clear signs in the heavens and within themselves as well. A group of western people believed that the world is like a flat table and a person will fall off the earth if he goes to the edge. Allah explained in the Quraan Sharif that the world is round.
وه و الذي خلق الليل والن هار والشمس ك ل ف ف لك يسبح ون
It is Allah who created the night, the day, the sun and the moon, each swimming in its own orbit.
Allah explained 1400 years ago that the world is round. Allah explained all those things which could not be understood.
Page 38
Therefore actions and words will be weighed just as Allah has blessed us with various instruments to measure. Allah has shown these things to us, so a Mu’min who believes in Allah and the Qudrat of Allah accepts whole-heartedly. This is one point Imaam Bukhaari is explaining that actions
will be weighed. A’mal will have Quantity and value attached to it.
ثقيلتان ىف امليزان
These words have got quality in them and are not empty words.
If a person swallows an empty capsule it will not benefit him but
if he fills it with 5mg of medication he will derive some benefit
from it. If he fills it with 50mg or 100mg then he will benefit even
more.
Therefore the quality of the action will be weighed, not the
quantity.
Allah states in the Quraan Sharif,
لموت واحلياة لي ب ل وك م أيك م أحسن عمال الذي خلق ا
Allah is that Being who has created death and life so He will test
you which one of you carry out the best of actions.
Who amongst you will possess the best A’mal as far as quality is
concerned. That is what Allah requires.
Thereafter, Imaam Bukhaari discusses the aspect pertaining to
linguistics and language as Imaam Bukhaari was a master of all
sciences and not only of Hadith. He explains the Arabic grammar.
ويقال القسط مصدراملقسط
Page 39
He says that the word “القسط” which means "Justice” is the root
word of “المقسط"
And the meaning of that is “ العادل وهو الجائر" justice, fairness.
But the same word ""واما القاسط when taken into another Baab
.then it means oppression ”فهو الجائر"
This is not difficult to understand, in the English language. If we
go into the details of the semantics and the grammar in Arabic we
will bore everyone to such an extent that students will also
experience difficulty trying to comprehend. Take a simple word
in English such as “Responsible”. We all know the meaning of
responsible. Take the same English word into another paradigm
and just add the letter “i” in front. What is the word now?
“Irresponsible”. This is a total opposite meaning of the word
responsible.
Similarly, the word “القسط” on one side has the meaning of
“ العادل" on the other side it has the meaning of “الجائر"
The Quraan Sharif discusses both meanings.
وأما القاسط ون فكان وا جلهنم حطبا
As for the oppressors, they shall be fuel for Jahannam.
In another verse Allah uses the same word but on a different
paradigm and it means justice. In English there are many words
with positive and negative meanings. The same principle applies
with the word “Al-Qist” here. On one scale it means “Justice” and
Page 40
when brought on another scale it gives the meaning of
“Oppression” which is the total opposite.
ESSENCE OF THE FIRST AND LAST HAADITH OF
BUKHAARI SHARIF
The first Hadith that Imaam Bukhaari brought was the Hadith
of Hadhrat Umar bin Khattab which is,
امنا االعمال ابلنيات
He was
.”ابمري املؤمني بي االصحاب عمر ابن اخلطاب" ياول ما مس
Umar was the first person to be called Ameerul Mu’mineen
amongst the Sahaaba . The first person to be called Ameerul
Mu’mineen in Hadith was Imaam Bukhaari . So he brought the
Hadith of Ameerul Mu’mineen first but everyone cannot be
Ameerul Mu’mineen, you can only have one Ameer in a country.
You cannot have multiple Ameers.
The last Hadith that Imaam Bukhaari brought is the Hadith of
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah who was a great Muhaddith. He was a
Darwesh, a Sufi. His real name was Abdur Rahmaam. He taught
Page 41
eight hundred students amongst them were Sahaaba such as
Hadhrat Abdullah ibn Umar and Abdullah ibn Abbas.
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah taught five and half thousand Ahadith
to his students.
Hadhrat Abu Hurairah was a person who kept away from
Jihaad as he had another job. The eye cannot substitute the
mouth, the ear cannot substitute the nose, etc. similarly Allah
has made different departments in the Ummah. There are those
people who will go for Jihaad, everyone cannot go for Jihaad. A
person who goes for Jihaad might not become an Aalim. Allah
has spread the necessities of the Ummah amongst the entire
Ummat.
Here Imaam Bukhaari is indicating to the students by bringing
the Riwayat of Abu Hurairah, that they should also become like
Abu Hurairah a great Muhaddith. They should also teach
Hadith and not worry about becoming Ameerul Mu’mineen in
Hadith. They should also become like Abu Hurairah.
TWO SIMPLE WORDS GREATLY LOVED BY ALLAH
قال النىب صلى هللا عليه وسلم كلمتان حبيبتان اىل الرمحن
Rasulullah said,
“There are two very simple words which are very greatly loved
by Rahmaan (Allah). Other names of Allah could have been
used such as “Habibataan ilal Qahhar” or “Habibataan ilal
Ghafaar” but Rahmaan is that being who is very Merciful,
Compassionate and Kind and He loves these two words. Anything
Page 42
that is loved by Allah, one would think that it must be a very
difficult task. No! "الدين يسر"
Deen is very easy. Nowadays many people find Deen to be boring,
difficult, brittle and Deen is unenjoyable to people. Other aspects
of life are enjoyable such as sports, music and all other Haraam
things. The reason being we have not understood what Deen is,
nor have we approached Deen correctly. Otherwise there is
nothing more enjoyable than Deen.
These words are beloved to Allah yet they are easy to utter.
""خفيفتان على للسان Anyone and everyone can say these words. If
these words are so easy to utter, then it may not be of great value.
If a person works for something throughout the night or perhaps
throughout his life it will hold great value in comparison to
something obtained over the counter and easy to acquire. This is
not the case with Deen. Even though something is easy, it is
weighty on the scales of Deeds. “ثقيلتان ىف امليزان”.
BRING QUALITY IN ONE’S DEEDS
Imaam Bukhaari has proven his point with this Hadith that
deeds will be weighed. The word “Subhanallah” is going to be
weighed on the day of Qiyamah and not only be weighed but it is
going to be very heavy. Another important indication Imam
Bukhaari has given us is that we should bring weight into our
A’mal.
Make your A’mal valuable.
Page 43
For example, everyone performed Maghrib Salaah next to one
another. Outwardly we all performed three Rakaats of Salaah.
The number of Ruku and Sajdah were the same. We performed
Salaah behind the same Imaam in the same Masjid yet the Salaah
of each person differs in value in the sight of Allah according to
our internal qualities. Some people received one hundred
percent, some received fifty percent some received ten percent
and some people according to the Hadith,
“The Salaah is converted in the form of a dirty rag and thrown
back at him. The Salaah addresses the person by saying, May Allah
destroy you as you have destroyed me”.
In the Quraan Sharif, Allah says,
“Fawaylul Lil Musalleen.”
Woe and destruction for those people that perform Salaah.
In another verse Allah says,
"قد افلح املؤمنون"
Those that perform their Salaah have become one hundred per
cent successful.
The quality of a person’s Salaah depends on the qualities within a
person.
We have made Deen an entertainment. When we give a Bayaan
wherein our sins are not exposed and no warnings are given and
we are told that Allah is pleased with us then we regard such a
Page 44
Bayaan as very good and we are happy. If we are told about our
sins, that one should not watch television, take photography, etc.
then such a Bayaan is not good and we do not want to listen to it.
When we host a Qiraat Jalsa with reciters from Egypt or the
Imaams of Haramain then we feel we have done our share of
Islam and I don’t have to worry for the rest of my life.
If we go to a doctor and we have a serious illness but the doctor
says, “You are alright my friend.” He is regarded as a good doctor
as he didn’t fnd any fault of mine but if the doctor says, “You have
to do certain tests because you have a serious illness.” Then such
a doctor is not regarded as a good doctor.
The Ulama that expose our faults are not good Ulama. Those
Ulama who say, “You are alright and have no faults.” They are
regarded as very good Maulanas. So, we have made Deen an
entertainment.
We have Jalsas in which beautiful Qiraat and Nazms are recited.
We ask how my son read. The important aspect is to possess the
reality, the essence and the Rooh (spirit) of Deen.
If a woman is absolutely beautiful but she does not have her Rooh
in her, she has to be taken straight to the graveyard. We cannot
even make a “mummy” out of it and keep it saying that it is very
handsome or beautiful. So the Rooh is of vital importance.
In the words, “ثقيلتان ىف امليزان” Imaan Bukhaari is indicating that
we should bring qualities in our Deen, not only should we render
beautiful Qiraat and give flowery Bayaans to impress people
whereas we do not possess the reality of Deen.
Page 45
In the end Imaam Bukhaari draws our attention to the fact that
you have read the entire Bukhaari Sharif so you have obtained
“Ilm-e-Nabuwat” now you have to acquire “Noor-e-Nabuwat.”
AN EXAMPLE OF MAULANA YUSUF KANDHELWI
Hadhrat Maulana Yusuf Kandhelwi has presented this example
many times which Maulana Ubaidullah Balyawi used to quote,
he said, “I didn’t read this example in any Kitaab, but I heard it
many times from Maulana Yusuf .”
Four people undertook a journey, they reached a strange town and
had to spend the night. So they said, “We do not know the condition
of this place therefore all of us will not be able to sleep at once. One
person should stay awake at a time.” So they divided their time,
each person had to stay awake for two hours and then the next
person will resume his duty.
The first person that stayed awake said, “What must I do in these
two hours?” He was a sculptor so he decided to make a statue. He
made the form of a very beautiful girl and his two hours were up so
he went to sleep.
The next person was a tailor. He saw the form of a beautiful girl
but she was naked. So he decided to sew some beautiful clothes for
this girl. When his two hours were up, he returned to sleep.
The next person was a jeweller. He saw a beautiful girl with
beautiful clothing, so he decided to make some jewellery and put it
on her.
Finally it was the last part of the night which is Tahajjud time, the
last person that woke up was a Sufi. He saw a beautiful girl
Page 46
adorned with beautiful clothes and beautiful jewellery but she is
dead. So he decided to make Dua and he made Dua, “Ya Allah! Put
life into her.”
This is the example of the various efforts of Deen, in our Makatib
we will get the form of Deen which is the statue. In the Darul-
Ulooms we will put the clothes of Deen, which is the details of
Deen. In Tableegh Jamaat, we will put on the jewellery and in the
Khanqah, we will get the Rooh which is the life of Deen. Without
life, she has to be buried irrespective of how beautiful she may
be.
Do not worry about entertainment. Today we are worried about
outward show. We have big parties before and after we go for Haj
and Umrah but the Rooh, the spirit of Haj and Umrah is missing.
We have completed Bukhaari Sharif but it shouldn’t be a big
show, big Jalsa, etc. The spirit of it should be within us, we should
practise on this.
Imaam Bukhaari says all this will come when you make Zikr of
Allah. Then this Noor and spirit will be achieved, that is this
Sufi Saheb at night who is putting the Rooh.
Maulana Adam Saheb, Maulana Yunus Saheb and all the other
Asatizah, May Allah reward them and the Sandton Muslim
Jamaat for the Madressahs they are running. May Allah reward
our women, who are at the back in purdah yet they are a strong
support. Maulana Adam Saheb and Maulana Yunus Saheb will
never be able to teach without their wife’s support. The
womenfolk serve as a support for the community, children,
Ustaads and everyone. May Allah reward all those that have
contributed towards this beautiful occasion.
Page 47
Two males and six females are completing Bukhaari Sharif, seven
males and one female will be completing Hifz. Great work is
taking place but the life and Rooh of it is when they establish a
relationship with a pious person, some Ahlullah and engage in
the Zikr of Allah. Zikr brings life, cleanliness, purity within a
person.
وہپاچن داتی ےہ ذرک ذارک ق ذمق ر
ی
Zikr makes the person making Zikr, reach his objective that is Allah
TO PRACTISE DEEN ONE NEEDS A SHEIKH
Hadhrat Khwaja Azizul Hassen Majzoob Saheb was a great
politician who was serving in the British government when the
British were ruling India. At that time, many people did not see a
motor car, yet he had a chauffeur driven motor car. One can well
imagine what a position he held in the Dunya.
When he established a relationship with Maulana Ashraf Ali
Thanwi , he became the Ustaad and Sheikh of great Ulama.
When Khwaja Saheb was present great personalities such as
Mufti Shafi Saheb , Maulana Phulpuri would not deliver a
lecture. This was a result of having connection with an Ahlullah.
On one occasion he asked Maulana Thanwi , “Hadhrat when
Zikr is sufficient to convey us to Allah and all our requirements
will be fulfilled then why do we need a Sheikh? We can all make
our individual Zikr.”
Page 48
Maulana Thanwi replied, “Khwaja Saheb what you are saying
is true, If there is a loaf of bread on the table and there is a knife
on the table. What will cut the bread?” He replied, “The knife,”
Hadhrat then asked, “When will it cut the bread?” He replied,
“When it is in someone’s hand.” Just the knife lying down on its
own will not cut the bread. The knife will have to be in someone’s
hand in order to cut the bread.
Similarly the Zikr will do the job but only if it is prescribed by
somebody who knows how much of Zikr should be made and
who should make the Zikr? When it is prescribed by such people
then it will have its effect.
Now we have completed Bukhaari Sharif so it is important that
we bring Deen into our lives as a reality and not just as an
entertainment and an outward picture. However, this can only be
achieved if we make contact with some Buzurg, bring the reality
of Deen into our lives and then see what Deen has got to offer.
Then only will we get the enjoyment and pleasure of the great
power of Deen. Sahabah controlled the world. How? Not with
maths, science, language, military power, finance or having
governments, but with Deen of Allah. Not even with knowledge
of Deen.
There is a great difference between the knowledge of Deen and
Deen. The students who have completed know very well, that علم is a genitive case therefore these are (knowledge of Deen) الدين
two separate things.
You have acquired the knowledge of Deen but Deen is something
else. To get Deen in our lives we will have to go and spend at least
Page 49
some time in the company of the Ahlullah and our Sheikh (Damat
Barakatuhum) quotes Imam Ghazali , Moulana Shah Anwar
Kashmiri and Hadhrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi .
“The help of Allah is not with the knowledge of Deen but with
Deen (i.e. when we have got Deen in our lives).”
So we should not stop here. We have not reached our
destination. Two thirds of our work is finished, Tazkiya (spiritual
rectification) still remains.
ي ت ل و عليهم آيتك وي علم ه م الكتاب واحلكمة
If the Hafiz recites the following verse of the Quraan Sharif in
Ramadaan but omits “يزكيهم", he will be corrected.
ن ه م ي ت ل و عليهم آيتك وي علم ه م الكتاب واحلكمة إنك أ نت رب نا واب عث فيهم رس وال م العزيز احلكيم
Hafiz Saheb, you have forgotten, “يزكيهم” remember practically in
our life we left out“يزكيهم" We have completed two parts which is
ل و عليهم آيتك وي علم ه م الكتاب واحلكمة ي ت and we are now going to teach and
become Imaams but we have left out يزكيهم we have not reached
perfection until we have purified ourselves.
May Allah accept from everyone and increase this great effort
of Deen and may every aspect of Deen with its essence come alive
in our lives and let us realise what power, enjoyment and beauty
Allah has kept in Deen itself.
Page 50
A person does not derive any enjoyment in the name of biryani,
rather the enjoyment is in the Biryani itself. So just the name of
Deen is not going to give us enjoyment, let the actual Deen be
alive.
The “Maloomat” (information) which we have acquired should
become “Mamoolat” (knowledge which is practised upon) then
we will get the enjoyment of Deen.

Let us begin with the Hadith, Al Musalsal bil Awwaliyyah. I have
acquired permission for this Hadith from Sheikhul Hadith,
Hadhrat Maulana Muhammad Zakariyya Saheb on two
occasions, once in Saharanpur and the other time in
Johannesburg. I have also acquired permission from Qari
Muhammad Tayyib Saheb, who was the rector of Darul Uloom
Deoband, as well as from my Ustâdh of Abu Dâwûd Sharif,
Maulana Abdul Ahad Saheb, and my Sheikh Hadhrat Maulana
Hakim Muhammad Akhtar Saheb (Damat Barakatuhum).
The Hadith is,
ءالرامحون يرمحهم الرمحن ارمحوا من ىف االرض يرمحكم من ىف السماThose who show mercy, Rahman (Allah) will show mercy to
them. Have mercy on those who are on earth and He who is in the
skies will have mercy on you!
Allah is everywhere - to show the greatness of Allah, He is
referred to as in the heavens. I grant this permission to all Ulama
present and to the students who are graduating today.
THE IMPORTANCE OF HADITH
We are in this world to please Allah, to earn Jannah and to save
ourselves from Jahannum. Allah has reserved a place for
everyone in Jannah and Jahannum as well. According to one
Hadith, we have come to Dunya (this world) to keep the one
reservation and cancel the other!
For this, Allah has revealed His Quraan Sharif to us, by which
we can achieve this purpose! The Quraan Sharif cannot be
understood on its own, so Nabi has explained it to us, which is
known to us as Hadith! From the Quraan and Hadith, the Fuqaha
Page 53
(jurists) have extracted all the Masa’il and presented it to us in
the form of Fiqh (jurisprudence). This complete knowledge of
Deen has been preserved and transmitted to us from the time of
Nabi till today by all the Ulama!
Hadith, is one of the fundamentals of our Deen.
Qari Muhammad Tayyib Saheb whilst traveling on a train had
a discussion with a person. The person said, “I only believe in the
Quraan and I do not believe in the Hadith.” Qari Saheb said,
“From what you are saying, I understand that you believe in the
Hadith.” He replied, “No, I do not believe in the Hadith, as it was
collected much later from bits written on bone, stone, memory
and remembered by different people. I do not accept it.”
Qari Saheb again repeated himself and said, “I understand that
you believe in the Hadith.” The man said, “I am surprised at you,
you are such an intelligent and great scholar and you do not
understand my simple statement.” After repeating this a few
times, Qari Saheb asked him, “Who informed you, that this is the
Quraan sent by Allah?
Did Jibraail come and tell you, who told you?” He was
dumbfounded and said, “I was not aware of what I was believing
in!” Qari Saheb explained to him, “It is only the Hadith that told
you, this is the Kalam (speech) of Allah.”
He said, “Jazakumullah, you have opened my eyes for me!”
THE RANK OF BUKHAARI SHARIF
The Hadith is an integral part of the knowledge of our Deen! And
Bukhaari Sharif holds an outstanding stature in the field of
Page 54
Hadith. It is known as “Asah'hul Kitab ba'da Kitabillah” (The most
authentic book after the book of Allah)
It is a Jami’ Kitab. In the technical terms of the Muhadithin
(scholars of Hadith), a Jami’ Kitab is one in which the whole of
Deen is collected and discussed. These students have studied
Tafsir (explanation) of the Quraan Sharif and Jami’ Kitaabs of
Hadith, so they have studied the whole of Deen. Their Ustaadhs
have taught them the whole of Deen.
These Darul Ulooms are the only places where the whole of Deen
is taught and transmitted from one generation to the other. These
are the only places where A’mal (practice) is made on this Ayat
(verse) of the Quraan Sharif,
ي أي ها الرس ول ب لغ ما أ نزل إليك من ربك O Rasul, convey that which was revealed to you from your Rabb
All that was revealed is the whole of Deen. So in a Jami’ Kitab like
Bukhaari Sharif we are taught the whole of Deen:
Imaan (beliefs), Ibadat (outward forms of worship), Mu'amalat
(monetary dealings), Akhlaq (character), Aadab (etiquettes),
Mu'asharat (social dealings), etc. the whole of Deen is taught and
transmitted from one generation to the other!
BE GRATEFUL FOR THE DARUL ULOOMS
We should be very, very thankful for our Darul Ulooms. They are
preserving the Deen of Allah and His Rasul . This
appreciation should not only be lip service.
An example is, a person's dog was dying and the owner was
crying because his beloved companion was dying. A person asked
Page 55
him, “Why are you crying so profusely.” He explained, “My
lifelong companion is dying.” So he asked him, “What is wrong
with your dog?” He replied, “My dog is dying of hunger.” He then
asked, “What is in your basket on your head?” He said, “Bread.”
The person said, “Then why don't you give him some bread and
save his life.” He replied, “Tears are free but the bread costs
money.”
We should not only offer lip service but we should support our
Darul Ulooms by sending our youngsters to study in these
institutions. Remember the true Deen can only remain alive in
our homes, societies and in the entire ummah, when the entire
Quraan and Hadith is studied under reliable Ulama. That is those
Ulama who studied from reliable Ulama and whose chain reaches
Rasulullah .
Success in this Dunya and salvation in the hereafter is totally
dependent on this original Deen. Not only is the Talim
(knowledge) required but also the correct Mizaj (temperament)
and Tarbiyat (nurturing) required. This cannot be acquired from
the internet, etc. the personal touch of the Ustaads is absolutely
essential. We should try and support these Darul Ulooms
financially, with Duaas, good advices and in kind.
It is narrated in a Hadith that there are three shareholders in
your wealth. We might say that we do not have partners where
did shareholders come in our wealth. SubhanAllah! Look at the
knowledge of Rasulullah ,
“One shareholder is the money we use for our day-to-day
necessities.” This is our food, clothing, shelter, transport, etc. we
spend most of our money on these necessities.
Page 56
“The second shareholder is our inheritors, whatever we leave
behind is also not ours and it belongs to our inheritors.” May Allah
forbid, unfortunately many times, this money goes to lawyers,
fighting lawsuits between the inheritors.
“The third share is that which we have sent ahead for ourselves in
the Aakhirat.” Then Nabi advises us, “Do not be the smallest
shareholder in your own wealth.” That is one does not send
anything or very little for himself in the Aakhirat.
Our sheikh (Damat Barakatuhum) says, “When a person has
given in the path of Allah, in fact he has not given anything
away, all he has done is, he has transferred his money from one
of his accounts of Dunya to another of his own accounts of
Aakhirat.”
In Dunya we have many bank accounts, in different banks and in
different countries. So if we transfer our money from one account
to another between various banks in order to safeguard it in the
Dunya we will not think that we have given our money away but
we will be thankful and even pay the bank a commission.
Therefore we should be even more thankful for our Madaris who
are transferring our currency for us to our bank of Aakhirat,
where it is most safe, and where we are earning the maximum
Halal returns on our investments!
THE FIRST HADITH OF BUKHAARI SHARIF
The first hadith of Bukhaari Sharif stresses on intention and sincerity! This is one of the three Ahadith, which great scholars like Imaam Nawawi have said are the foundations of Deen. The
second is:
Page 57
اال ان ىف اجلسد ملضغة اذا صلحت صلح اجلسد كله واذا فسدت فسد اجلسد كله اال وهى القلب
Verily there is a piece of flesh in the body. If this piece of flesh is
correct, the entire body will be correct, and if this piece of flesh is
corrupt, the entire body will be corrupt. Listen! It is the heart.
And the third hadith is,
من حسن اسالم املرء تركه ماال يعنيهFrom the beauty of Islam of a person is to give up vain and useless
actions and pursuits.
In a single Majlis, the whole of Deen was taught in the gatherings
of Rasulullah . In ten short years of Madinatul Munawwarah
Rasulullah taught the whole of Deen. Allahu Akbar! What an
achievement! And with what distinctions! The Sahabah said,
ونصحت االمة وكشفت الغمةقد بلغت الرسالة واديت االمانة Certainly, you have conveyed the message, discharged the
responsibility which you were entrusted with, you were a well-
wisher to the ummah and you have removed all forms of darkness.
We continuously read in the Ahadith,
ل هللا صلى هللا عليه وسلم ىف جملسكنا مع رسو
جلسنا مع رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وسلم
We were with Rasulullah in a majlis, we sat in the company of
Rasulullah, etc.
Page 58
This cannot be achieved today. We cannot teach from the basics
like, Istinja, Alif, Baa, Taa, Naazarah, Hifz, Aalim, Qiraat, Ifta,
Takhassus, etc. this is impossible in ten short years but Allaahu
Akbar, Nabi taught the whole of Deen, Nabi made the
Tarbiyat (nurturing) of the Sahaba and created a Mizaj
(temperament), etc. in ten short years. He achieved all this,
together with going out in Jihad, seeing to the needs of his family
and running the Islamic Khilafat.
IMPORTANCE OF IKHLAS
Mufassirin (commentators) have written that Ibrahim had
acted upon Tawria (spoke an apparent lie) on 3 occasions:
1. When he said, “Innie saqeem” (I am sick)
2. When he was asked, “Who did this to our idols (i.e. broke
our idols)?”
3. When he mentioned about his wife, Sara, “Hazhehi Ukhti”
(This is my sister), when the king had bad intentions with
her.
The first two instances Allah mentioned in the Quraan, but
Allah did not mention the third instance in the Quraan because
in the third instance there was a share for himself. It was his
wife! The other two were solely for Allah!
Rasulullah said, Recite this Dua,
اللهم اىن اعوذبك ان اشرك بك شيئا واان اعلم واستغفرك ملا ال اعلمOh Allah! I seek refuge in You from ascribing any partners to You
knowingly, and I seek Your forgiveness from that which I am
unaware of.
Page 59
Then a person will be saved from:
قليله وكثريهWhether a person possesses a little or a lot
صغريه وكبريهThe small and the big.
ظاهره وابطنهWhat is manifest and what is hidden.
The person who reads this Dua will be saved from doing things
for name and fame. In other words he will become a one hundred
percent Mukhlis, a sincere person. How important is not Ikhlaas
(sincerity) and we get this only from the company of the
Ahlullah! Maulana Thanwi took a Qasam (oath) on this!
Zubaidah, the wife of Harun-Ar-Rashîd, was seen in a dream after
she passed away and was asked how she fared there. She said,
“Alhamdulillah, Allah has given me great, great bounties here.”
The person asked her, “Was it because of all your great social and
welfare work that you did, such as having the Canal of Zubaidah
built, which runs from Baghdad to Makkah Sharif and it was built
at a time when there was no water in Makkah Sharif?” She
replied, “No! It was on account of certain intentions that I had in
my heart which no one knew about!”
Imam Shâfi says, “Everyone must have certain such A’mal
(actions), even if they be Nafl or Mustahab, which no one knows
about, not even one's wife. These actions will benefit him
tremendously on the day of Qiyamah, as the value of everything
by Allah is based on Ikhlaas.
Page 60
INCIDENT OF ABDULLAH BIN MUBARAK
When Abdullah ibn Mubarak passed away, somebody saw him
in a dream, and asked him how he fared there? He said, “Allah
has blessed me with plenty great bounties but my neighbour who
was a blacksmith, Allah has given him much more.” The
person was surprised that Abdullah ibn Mubârak was such a
great person, who spent six months in Jihad and taught Hadith
for six months he was very pious person and loved by all.
The person went to the blacksmith's wife and enquired about his
special actions on account of which Allah gave him such a
great stage. She said, “He was an ordinary person who worked to
earn a living and support his family. He hardly got time to make
any extra Ibadat however, he used to say that Abdullah ibn
Mubarak my neighbour is a great Buzurg, people love him very
much and shower him with gifts, on account of which he is free
from earning a living. I have to work hard to earn my living. If I
was also free like him, I would have made Ibadat excessively.” On
this Niyyah (intention), Allah blessed him with so much.
We really under-estimate the importance of Niyyah and sincerity
and this is another reason why it is necessary to stay in the
company of the Mashaikh. So making intention is very important,
the more intentions we make the greater the reward.
نية املؤمن خري من عملهThe intention of a believer is better than his action.
When Bani Israeel were affected with droughts, a person
amongst the Bani Israeel made an intention that if a certain
mountain was wheat he would have distributed it to all the needy
Page 61
people. On this Allah informed the Nabi of the time to tell this
person that, Allah has rewarded him on his intention?
HOW TO MEASURE ONE’S SINCERITY
How do we know whether a person’s intention is sincere or not?
A person that carries out that which is within his reach indicates
towards his sincerity. For example, if a person earns R5000 he
cannot give R50 000 in charity but he can give R5 or R50 in
charity.
Maulana In'âmul Hasan Saheb said, “A person should make
intention in the morning when he gets up that he will not make
Kufr, Shirk, Nifaaq (hypocrisy), Bid'at (innovations), drink liquor,
back bite, cast evil glances, commit adultery, gamble, etc. On this
intention, he will get the reward of abstaining from all Haram
acts. If he does not make the intention and does not commit all
this, he will not be sinful nor will he receive reward. However if
he makes an intention, he will get all this reward.” In the same
way, make intention that we will fulfil all Allah ’s commands,
stay on Imaan and Islam, have sincerity, remain humble, perform
five times Salah with Jamaat, etc. By making such intentions, one
will get all this reward!
Maulana Qamar Zaman Saheb of Ilahabad says that when a
person becomes old, he becomes physically weak and he cannot
do all those things which he used to do when he was young. So
now, he must take work from Niyyah (intention). Intention is
easy to make and great reward will be attained.
Page 62
ADVICE OF MAULANA ILYAS SAHEB AND THE VERSES
OF QURAAN ONE SHOULD READ BEFORE RENDERING A
BAYAAN
Maulana Muhammad Ilyaas Saheb once asked his son Maulana
Yusuf Saheb, “What intention did you make when delivering
the Khutbah?” He replied, “It is Sunnah.” Maulana remarked, “Had
you made the intention that Allah must convey this message to
all the people of the world, you would have received that much
reward!”
As graduating Ulama, you will be doing various works of Deen.
Therefore before commencing any action, recite Surah Ikhlaas
and by its Barakah and (blessings), you will be blessed with
sincerity. The following verses of Quraan should also be recited
ا الم ؤمن ون الذين إذا ذ كر الل وجلت ق ل وب ه م وإذا ت ليت عليهم آيت ه زادت ه م إ مياان وعلى إمن ربم ي ت وكل ون
The believers are those whose hearts tremble when Allah is
mentioned, whose Iman increases when His verses are recited to
them and who trust only in their Sustainer.
By the Barakaat (blessings) of this, at least some person will benefit from the talk.
Also, recite the verse,
ر ل أمري واحل ل ع قدة من لسان واحل ل ع قدة من قال رب اشرح ل صدري ويس لسان
Moosa said, “O my Sustainer, expand my chest, make my task
easy and untie the knot on my tongue, so that they may understand
my speech.”
Page 63
By the Barakaat (blessings) of this, your subject matter will open
up, and you will be able to present things in the best way.
Now make intention,
“O Allah! I am doing this only for Your pleasure, make it a means
of Amal (action) and Hidaya (guidance), spread it throughout the
whole world till the day of Qiyamah, to all mankind and Jinn. Let
me deliver the lecture and explain it correctly, let it be understood
correctly and let it be practised correctly. May Allah bless me
with sincerity and qualities of acceptance! In whichever way, form,
by whichever means, wherever it reaches let there be only good in
it, let only good come out of it and give me a full share in all that is
good. Let there be no wrong or harm in it and let no harm come out
of it. O Allah! Bless me with a topic and subject matter which will
be most necessary, beneficial and correct according to every
individual’s requirements. Let there be only good in it, save me
from all evil, wrong, excessiveness and disrespect, etc. O Allah !
Make it only for Your pleasure, You declare it to be for only Your
pleasure, as far as intention, feeling, method of delivery etc. is
concerned”
CHAPTER ON WAHIY
The first Kitab that Imam Bukhaari has brought is,
“ ليه وسلم؟كيف كان بدئ وحى رسول هللا صلى هللا ع
Here he explains the importance of Wahiy (revelation). Wahiy
informs us of the knowledge of the unseen of Allah, His Sifaat
(qualities), how He wants us to live, the Qabr (grave), Aakhirat,
the angels, the unseen system of Allah which is superior and
over- rides this Dunya’s system.
Page 64
Those who do not believe and deny this source of knowledge, are
deprived and they deny the realities of all these absolute
necessary and fundamental facts, without which man's life is like
an animal! Therefore Imam Bukhaari has mentioned it right at
the beginning. All of mankind, believed in Allah, the Supreme
Being, even if many associated partners with Him, etc. they
believed in Allah in some way.
DARWINS THEORY OF EVOLUTION
This theory was introduced about three to four hundred years
ago. In fact, in its very roots and foundation is the hatred and
enmity for Allah , Deen and Akhirat. The anti-thesis of any
religion and the total denial of the Almighty and the Hereafter!
This is its roots and its foundation is then built on this. Whether
you study a natural subject like geography or mathematics, the
name of Allah , Deen or Aakhirat, will not be mentioned, not
even by mistake.
The world has been made their absolute god and very sadly,
Muslims have proven no exception to it. More horrifying and
which burns the heart is that Ulama are at the helm of affairs in
this devilish systemic uprooting of Deen. This is totally unlike the
previous simple knowledge of our great Muslim scholars and our
Masjid Halqas. It is absolutely essential to understand this
distinction. So the majority of people in the West have become
atheists and developed this education and have made it the 'god'
of modern times with regard to which Judge Akbar Illahabadi
said,
Page 65
اوعن لتق اوالد ےس
ا ف
ام ںیہن وہن
ویں دبن
اوسفس اوکس اکجل یک ںیہن وسیج
Firoun should not have been disgraced by the killing of all
infants, to achieve that very same object, for which he killed all
those infants, he should just have opened schools, by which the
same object, of controlling the masses would have been achieved.
School education, if x-rayed, amongst other things, is to make all
its citizens slaves of the state, that is why governments spend so
much on education. A bitter and difficult pill to swallow or even
to understand but it is the stark truth and reality, it is merely a
tool to enslave and control the minds and bodies of the citizens.
The body of the child remains the parents however, they have
hijacked and kidnapped the mind and the soul of the child. We
take care of our children by feeding and clothing them while in
essence they belong to the state and western society.
THE OBJECTIVE OF SCHOOLS
Schools are built in factory block style, the periods are governed
by sirens. The object is to train the students to work, to earn,
make the commercial god bigger and bigger, pay more taxes,
make the government more rich, concentrate on, Dunya only
Dunya, no Deen, no Allah , no Aakhirat. Family values are lost,
moral values are lost. It is the height of deception and stupidity to
cry about drugs, pregnancies, crime, violence and all other evils
at schools. They are designed to produce just that!
This anti-religion, secular education faced a dilemma, when Allah
was being denied so they introduced all these various theories
of creation.
Page 66
Our Sheikh (Damat Baraktuhum) says, “If somebody tells you
there was an old broken typewriter in the jungle, a few monkeys
jumped on it and produced the greatest prose and poetry, who
will believe this?” A person hears a big bang and sees bricks
flying, concrete, stone, water, doors, zincs, etc. flying and
instantly a beautiful house is made?! Is this drunkenness, idiocy,
madness? No! It is atheism!
There has to be a maker and He is Allah ! SubhânAllah! But
these concepts of kufr are being taught at our schools.
They were faced with such a dilemma, so they concocted a theory
that, their ancestors were monkeys or apes. The theory was
monkey developed, an itch in a very delicate part of his body, he
scratched and scratched, “Poor chap,” until his tail fell off. Then
he became “Mr Man,” the great one who has produced and
manufactured everything in the world.
WHY DID IMAAM BUKHAARI BRING THE CHAPTER
OF WAHIY
Imam Bukhaari has brought it right at the beginning, that all
which one is going to follow now is that great knowledge of
Wahiy-e-Ilahi (Divine revelation). By doing one's Tazkiyah
(reformation) and studying Bukhaari, Hidayah, etc. one will get
Basirat (insight), by which the eyes of the heart will open, and
one will see clearly all Fitnahs of all times and their answers.
From this we can also understand the difference between the two
types of knowledge and the superiority of Deeni (religious)
knowledge over mundane secular knowledge.
This discussion on the completion of Bukhaari Sharif is based on
the talks of my honourable Sheikh's talks, which Hadhrat said is
Page 67
the Khatam (completion) of Bukhaari Sharif by Hadhrat Maulana
Rashid Ahmed Gangohi.
LAST CHAPTER OF BUKHAARI
The last Baab (chapter) is, that the scale of justice and fairness
will be placed on the day of Judgement and the actions of the
children of Adam will be weighed. Imam Bukhaari is
establishing the Aqeedaah (belief) of the Ahlus Sunnah wal
Jama’ah.
This is in order to refute the Jahmiyya and Mu'tazila (the present
day modernists, moududis, salafis, etc. who are the slaves of their
feeble minds and limited intelligence). The main sources of
information and knowledge of the brains are the eyes and ears.
However these are limited, on a bright, sunny day, at 12 o clock in
the afternoon, if you put your palm in front of your eyes you
cannot see the back of your hand. A person can hear from a
limited distance. A person cannot understand foreign languages,
we even misunderstand the language we are able to speak. The
knowledge acquired on the basis of limited, unreliable, doubtful
resources is totally unreliable.
On the other hand, the knowledge of Allah is most perfect,
complete and absolute, as Allah is the Knower of everything.
When Allah informed us that there will be a scale to weigh the
actions of mankind that is absolute and final. We know that
actions are abstract, so how will they be weighed?
This was perhaps a bit difficult for the Ulama to explain to people
in the past. Allah says,
Page 68
هل م أنه احلق أول يكف بربك أنه سن على ريهم آيتنا ف الفاق وف أنف سهم حت ي ت ب ي ك ل شيء شهيدن
“We will show them our signs in the heavens and within
themselves, until it will dawn upon them that He is the truth.”
Everything that Allah has informed us is true! Today we are
able to measure body temperature, which is abstract, we are able
to measure sound, etc. then what difficulty is it for Allah , the
Creator of everything and the Knower of everything, to measure
the quality of the actions of the believers. Another very important
point is, the quantity is not the object but the quality (sincerity) is
required. Quality will bring weight in one’s actions and on the
scale of deeds. The Quraan refers to it as 'Haba'am Manthura'
that it was just dust, made to fly away if it was done without
sincerity.
MEANING OF THE WORD “QIST”
Imam Bukhaari discusses the semantics of the word justice. It
is one word with two opposite meanings, justice and injustice,
when read from different paradigms from the same root word. In
the Quraan Sharîf, both meanings of the root word 'قسط' is used in
different verses:
وأما القاسط ون فكان وا جلهنم حطبا
As for the oppressors, they shall be fuel for Jahannum.
ب الم قسطي إن الل ي Verily Allah loves those that are just.
Page 69
Then Imam Bukhaari discusses another point of language and
semantics and that is whether the word قسط is an original Arabic
word or is it of a foreign language. A whole detailed discussion
starts here whether there are non-Arabic words in the Quraan
Sharif, whereas the Quraan Sharif state that, its language is pure
Arabic. -
To prove his point and this is one of Imam Bukhaari’s great
achievement and this is also one of the great achievements of the
reader and the students of Bukhaari Sharif to reconcile and see
the agreement of the 'Tarjamatul Baab' the heading of the
chapter and how it is substantiated by the Hadith, etc.!
Imam Bukhaari proves his point and the Aqidah of the Ahlus
Sunnah wal Jama’ah, that actions will be weighed.
The Hadith of Nabi that there are two words,
سبحان هللا وحبمده سبحان هللا العظيم
Here Nabi has clearly stated that they will be heavy on the
scale. This proves that these two words, which are abstract, are
going to be and can be weighed on the scales. There will be scales
on the Day of Qiyamah!
It is narrated in a Hadith that “SubhanAllah” fills the space
between the skies and earth with rewards. “Alhamdulillah” fills
the pans of the scales with rewards.
Hadhrat Salman was asked, “What is the greatest action in
Islam?” He asked, “Don't you read the Quraan?” Allah says,
Page 70
ولذكر الل أكب ر And certainly the remembrance of Allah is the greatest.
ZIKR OF ALLAH
The Zikr of Allah is the greatest. It is mentioned in a Hadith
that there is no action that will save a person more from the
punishment of the grave than the Zikr of Allah . It is mentioned
in a Hadith that the Zaakirin (those engaged in zikr) will stroll
around on the day of Qiyamah merrily. One of the eight doors of
Jannah is exclusive for the Zaakirin. A person will not have
sorrow in Jannah, except for those moments, which he will recall,
wherein he did not make the Zikr of Allah .
In the last Hadith, Rasulullah says there are two words which
Allah loves. Immediately one will wonder, what does Allah
love so much? Allah is so great, the entire universe has been
created by Him and belongs to Him Alone, so that which He loves
must be something very big and difficult to fulfil. We are
immediately told, “No, these words are very light on the tongue.”
خفيفتان على اللسان
This is the way of those who are great, they do not make it
difficult and hard to please them. Allah is the Greatest, He will
make it easier for us to please Him. Our Sheikh (Damat
Barakatuhum) says that people with high positions and wealth
build large mansions. Allah is the Greatest therefore His house
should have been the biggest. Allah could have built His house
from Makkah Sharif till Jeddah. Then how would we have
performed Haj. We would not be able to make one round of
Tawaaf, forget seven rounds. Allah is Most Merciful He has
Page 71
made His house small in order to make it easy for us to worship
Him and make the seven rounds of Tawaaf.
Likewise Allah , has also made it so easy, just two words, that
are easy to pronounce. By presenting it in this way, a person
becomes curious and eager to find out, “I can't wait, please tell
me quickly, what are those two words? Only two words, so easy
to say them and very beloved by the Owner and Controller of the
entire creation. Please tell me quickly what are they? so that I
may say them and become the beloved of Allah and earn great
rewards also.” Those words are,
سبخان هللا وحبمده سبحان هللا العظيم
Let us keep our tongues moist with its recitation. Read it one
hundred times daily, recite it all the time and one will see its
benefit. It is so simple, no wudhu is required and one can recite it
anywhere, anytime and earn great rewards. What a bargain? How
can we deprive ourselves of these treasures?
It is stated in a Hadith,
“The recital of Alhamdulillah fills the scales and SubhanAllahi wal
Hamdulillahi, both of them fill whatever is between the heavens
and the earth.”
Abdullah Ibn Umar narrates from Nabi ,
“SubhanAllahi fills half the scales, Alhamdulillah fills it and La
illaha illAllahu does not have a veil between the reciter and Allah
.”
It is also narrated that,
Page 72
“SubhanAllah fills half the scales, Alhamdulillah fills it and
Allahuakbar fills up whatever is between the heavens and the
earth.”
THE BLESSING OF THE TONGUE
The correct usage of the tongue is a very great blessing of Allah
. Just ponder on the great creative power of Allah . He has
put the ability and quality of speech in this small piece of flesh.
Then be conscious of its correct usage and abstain from using it
wrongly. In a Hadith we read,
املسلم من سلم املسلمون من لسانه ويدهA Muslim is he who does not harm another Muslim, neither by his
tongue nor by his hand.
If we translate this Hadith literally as Salafis do, we will make a
grave error in our Deen, (i.e. we will declare all Muslims who
harm other Muslims have become non- Muslims and this will be
incorrect.) If we follow the Ulama of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah,
we will take the meaning as,
“A perfect Muslim is he who does not hurt another Muslim.”
We must not follow only the literal translation and take the
meaning of an isolated verse or Hadith. We must look at all the
relevant verses and Ahadith on that subject. May Allah save us
from the curse of Salafism!
This Hadith does not only mean that a perfect Muslim does not
harm only other Muslims. It refers to people in general and the
Ulama have written that the entire creation and even the
environment is meant here. However Muslim is mentioned
Page 73
because a Muslim associates mostly with other Muslims. (This is
another reason why we cannot take the meaning of a Hadith just
on its translation or its isolated meaning.)
It is clearly mentioned in a Hadith that one should not relieve
oneself under a tree, in water, etc. A Muslim should not pollute
the environment. He should not litter the place. He should not
leave his shoes lying around, he should use the shoe rack. A
Muslim does not park his car where he is obstructing other
people. One should not stand in the doorway and start a
conversation causing difficulty for people to pass, obstructing its
usage. One should not waste time in a toilet or leave it dirty
causing inconvenience to others.
It is narrated,
جسمه صغري وجرمه كبريThe size of the tongue is small but the crime committed by the
tongue is great.
In the same way the good carried out by the tongue also holds
great value. It is narrated in a Hadith,
“A person says something which he does not even pay any attention
to and it takes him to the heights of Jannah and on the other hand
he says some word which he does not pay any attention to and it
takes him to the depths of Jahannum.”
The tongue has no bones in it, this gives us an indication that one
should not say any hard and harsh words but rather use soft and
kind words. One should be firm but not rude, vulgar or harsh. A
beautiful example is given of silk, it is so soft and enjoyable to
handle but so strong that if two elephants pull it, they cannot tear
Page 74
it apart. Bullet proof vests are made of it. So we must be firm, but
soft.
REPLY OF MAULANA MASEEHULLAH
A person said to Hadhrat Maulana Maseehullah Khan Saheb in
Makkah Sharif, “Hadhrat, you teach us to be soft and kind, in that
case everyone, workers, subordinates, etc. will take advantage of
us.” Hadhrat said, “When did I say you must not put things
right? Do it in the right way.”
“Firstly, do not become angry. Secondly, control your language,
don't be rude and vulgar. Thirdly, explain the wrong that has
been done and why it is wrong. Fourthly, explain the right way it
must be done.” SubhânAllah! What beautiful advice!
When Allah created a foetus in the womb. He gave it life after
about four months. The food of the foetus is delivered to it via the
umbilical cord of the mother directly into its stomach not via its
mouth because its food is the impure menses of the mother. So
Allah did not allow its mouth to be polluted with filth. Allah
kept the mouth pure in the womb, so we must also keep our
tongues pure.
We must keep our children pure from all foul language, kufr, sin,
etc. One of the wisdom's of Allah in making the nourishment of
the foetus, the menses of the mother is, to avoid pride in a
person. A person must realize, “I was created from sand and
water, my fundamental nourishment was impure menses, I was
so weak and could do nothing for myself. What right have I got
today to be proud and arrogant, have I forgotten my history, from
where I came?”
Page 75
The tongue is placed between thirty two teeth, like riot police,
armed with different weapons to control a riot. Similarly the
teeth are different weapons, there are the sharp teeth in front to
bite, the pointed ones to eat meat, the molars to crush the food,
etc. These are the different weapons to control the riot of the
tongue.
The riot of the tongue is more dangerous than the riots of
thousands of people!
A NOTEWORTHY INCIDENT
An incident is narrated by Haaji Imdadullah Muhaajir Makki of
a king who made his son an Aalim, when the prince graduated the
king held a very big Da’wat. He told his son to say a few words,
quote some Ayats of the Quraan Sharif, some Ahadith, etc. but the
son remained quiet. The king thought perhaps he might have
gotten stage fright, seeing so many great Ulama and senior
people.
However, later the king noticed that his son was not talking at all.
He sent him for speech therapy but to no avail. One day he sent
him with some ministers on a hunting trip, so that maybe he will
feel a bit light hearted and he might speak. On the way they
passed a partridge which the hunters did not notice. After they
passed it, the partridge made a sound, so they heard it, they
returned and hunted it.
The boy spoke and said, “As long as you were quiet, you were
safe, no sooner did you open your mouth, you lost your life.”
The ministers heard the boy speak, they rushed to inform the
king. He was very happy and he arranged another big Da’wat and
Page 76
asked him to say a few words again, but again to no avail. The
king then declared, “He can speak, he is only pretending.” He
ordered the Jallad (the person appointed to mete out
punishment) to give him one hundred lashes. When he received
the last lash, he spoke again.
He said, “When the partridge spoke once, it lost its life, when I
spoke once, I got one hundred lashes what will be the condition
on the day of Qiyamah of those who make 'Chak, chak, bak, bak' all
the time.” The Quraan Sharif states,
ما ي لفظ من ق ول إال لديه رقيبن عتيدن
Whenever a word escapes (from a person’s mouth), there is a
guard ready by him. (An angel immediately records the good or
bad speech).
Therefore we must be careful how we use our tongue. Today
there is great negligence with regard to this as well. A person
made Dua to Allah to show him how the Kiraaman Kaatibin
(the recording angels) operate. Allah showed him. He made
Salaam to them, they wrote it down. He remarked, “You don't
reply to my Salaam.” They wrote that down as well. He said, “You
write everything down.” They wrote that down as well. These
two angels have been appointed to record everything.
MEANING OF SUBHANALLAH
The meaning of the word 'SubhanAllah'. Did we ever think of the
meaning of 'SubhanAllah' or do we just take it for granted, like we
do all other aspects of our Deen and our lives? Hafiz Ibn Hajar
Asqalani gives the meaning as,
Page 77
اسبح هللا عن النقائص كلهاI declare that Allah is free from all weaknesses and faults.
Allah has absolutely no faults, in fact, to mention the word
fault, etc. in relationship to Allah is disrespectful, may Allah
forgive us and not take us to task but we are mentioning it to
make us understand, no weaknesses can come anywhere near
Allah . No illness, flu, cold, old age, tiredness, sleepiness, etc.
can come near Allah .
When a person says 'SubhanAllah’, meaning Allah is free from
all faults, etc, Allah says,
“You say that I am free of faults. I am free of faults, even if you do
not say it, even if no Nabi or Wali says it. I am still free of faults.”
By us saying 'SubhanAllah’ we are not purifying Allah from
faults. Allah is completely pure and free from any and all faults
and weaknesses. When a person says 'SubhanAllah',
Allah says,
“You said that I am free of faults, in return I will free you of faults.”
By this our Tazkiyah (spiritual purification) takes place, and Allah
Himself is purifying the reader of 'SubhanAllah'. What
impurity can remain when Allah Himself is purifying you!? Our
Sheikh (Damat Barakatuhum) prescribes 'SubhanAllah' three
hundred times for ladies as their Wazifaah.
Page 78
MEANING OF ALHAMDULILLAH
The next word is 'Wa bihimdihi',
Hafiz Ibn Hajar says,
مشتمال على احملامد كلهاTogether with encompassing all praises (for Allah).
Here again when the servants praise Allah, Allah says,
“You have praised Me, praise is only for Me, whether you say it or
not, whether any Nabi or Wali says it or not but by you praising Me,
I will now create qualities of praise in you.”
By this, a person is blessed with noble qualities and a sublime
character by which people will praise him.
A WIFE WILL NOT PRAISE HER HUSBAND
Even your wife will begin to praise you otherwise normally a wife
does not praise her husband besides on two occasions. Which are
those two occasions? One is before marriage, she boasts in front
of her friends about her future husband. The other occasion is
after death, when she can't stop praising him and talking highly
of him. However, during his life, she will fight and scream at him
all the time.
My aunt phoned me and complained about my uncle (her
husband), her list was just not coming to an end. They were our
seniors. All I could do was pacify and console her by telling her
Page 79
that I will make Dua and try and speak to my uncle however two
months later my uncle passed away. We went to pay our
condolences. On this occasion, she told me, “Abdul Hamid, you
know what, I was married to your uncle for sixty years and he
didn’t even trouble me so much (pressing her middle finger to
the tip of her fore finger).” I was dumbfounded, just a few days
ago, her list of complaints were not coming to an end and now
this complete turn.
Really the more we will simply read 'Alhamdulillah’ Allah will
create the qualities of praise in us, and even our wives will praise
us in our life time and not only after our death.
Then 'SubhanAllah' is mentioned again in the second phrase, for
purification is more important. Before applying Itr (perfume),
first cleanse yourself. Then comes 'Al Azîm.'
Hafiz gives its meaning as,
مع عظمة شانهHis Greatness is according to His Grandeur.
This refers to the greatness of Allah, which is also expressed in
'Allahu Akbar'. So, when a servant says, “O Allah , You are the
Greatest,”
Allah says,
“I am the Greatest, whether you say it or not, even if nobody says it.
But now, by you saying that I am the greatest, I will create qualities
of greatness in you, (i.e. I will grant you respect and honour!)”
Page 80
IMPORTANCE OF RESPECT
Due to our lack of knowledge, we say, “We don't want respect,
honour or greatness.” We must not try to acquire honour with
our efforts, by boasting and being arrogant or showing off with
our achievements, etc. but if Allah gives it to us from His side
it is a great bounty. This is such a Ne'mat (bounty), that Nabi
asked for it through the following Dua,
اللهم اجعلىن ىف عيىن صغرياوىف اعي الناس كبرياO Allah , make me small in my eyes and big in the eyes of the
people
Our Sheikh (Damat Barakatuhum) says first the antibiotic was
given, i.e. to be small, humble in one's own eyes, so that no pride
may come into a person, no matter how much he is praised by the
people of the world! Thereafter greatness in the eyes of the
people is asked for. Without respect and honour, the systems of
the world will not function.
For example, if nobody respects the Imaam and trustees there
will be chaos in the Masjid, everyone will come and do just what
he feels like. Similarly in the house, if the children do not respect
their elders and parents, they will grow up to be delinquents.
They will misbehave in the classroom, on the road, etc.
Respect and honour is a very great necessity and Ne'mat
(bounty) of Allah but we must not try and acquire it directly,
by boasting and showing off we must acquire it via Allah .
When Allah gives it to us we will not get “swollen headed” and
Allah will protect us from jealous people, etc. we should not
ask or desire it for ourselves for Dunya but we should desire it for
the sake of Deen.
Page 81
By reading ‘Allahu- Akbar', etc, Allah will give us greatness,
respect and all systems in our daily lives will run smoothly. This
respect and honour should not be for self-enrichment and name
and fame but for the Deen of Allah .
ACQUISITION OF NUR-E-NABUWWAT
Imaam Bukhaari draws our attention to the fact, that you have
completed the Kitab, you have acquired, Ilm-e-Nabuwwat
(knowledge of Nabuwwat), now you have to acquire Nur-e-
Nabuwwat (light of Nabuwwat), i.e. acquire your Tazkiya-e-nafs
(the purification of the souls), in this way you will get, Nur-e-
Nabuwwat. The Aalim course is completed but this is two thirds
of your mission. You have not graduated yet. There is one third of
your work which you still have to accomplish.
What is that last third? In the Quraan Sharif we read the Dua of
Ibrahim,
“O Allah, send to them a messenger who will make Tilawat of Your
verses to them, who will teach them the Kitab and who will purify
them.”
Our Nabi is the result of the Dua of Nabi Ibrahim and the
syllabus of his Nabuwwat was the result of the Dua by
Ibrahim.
The masjid is the place of this effort and every Aalim, is “Warithul
Ambiya” (inheritors of the Ambiya), his duty, is the duty of Nabi
. That is to learn, then teach the Quraan and become an Aalim.
The third point which is most neglected, is to make one's
Tazkiyah and then to make the Tazkiyah of others and then the
mission of Nabi will be completed.
Page 82
Imam Bukhaari is drawing the attention of the student that
after becoming an Aalim, it is necessary to do your
housemanship.
A doctor is not allowed to practice or operate without having
done his housemanship, he will have to practise and be guided by
an older more experienced doctors, so it is not permissible for an
Aalim to practice without serving (Suhbat) the old experienced
Ulama-e-Haq, Ulama-e-Rabbaniyyin and the Mashaikh-e-Kiram.
PRACTISING AS AN AALIM WITHOUT HOUSEMANSHIP
To understand this, we will mention a little anecdote:
A person had to undergo an operation, on the appointed day, he
was very tense and very frightened. His doctor asked him why he
was so nervous. He said, “Doctor, this is the first operation of my life
and I have a young wife and three small children. You are going to
put me under anaesthetic and cut me up. What if I do not come
back to life, what will happen to my wife and my little children?”
The doctor, to console him, said, “My friend, don't be so worried,
this is your first operation and it is my first operation as well!”
What will happen to the poor patient?
What if the doctor did not do his housemanship? Even if he got
distinctions in his theory but he did not do housemanship, he will
not be allowed to practise. Imagine if he starts operating and
keeps referring to his textbook. When a complications arises and
he starts turning pages, trying to figure out, “What now!” What
will be the condition of the patient?
Likewise how can an Aalim practice on the souls of people, which
is far superior to the body? The body's lifespan is only for the
Page 83
duration of this Dunya. The soul on the other hand is eternal and
it is because of the soul that the body feels everything.
Therefore it is much more important for the correction of the
soul and for Deen that Ulama do housemanship under the
guidance of senior, experienced Ulama-e-Haq, Rabbaniyyin, who
have been granted permission to make the Islaah of others, the
Mashaikh-e-Haqq.
Whenever the Ulama are making Bayaan, whether they are
sorting out disputes between husband and wife, between
business partners, etc. they are doing spiritual operations on the
souls of the people. If they are operating without having done a
spiritual housemanship, what will be the result?
This is the dilemma the Ummah is facing today.
Previously a single Aalim, who had all the qualities of an Aalim,
was sufficient for an entire country. Today we are so many Ulama
and we are not sufficient for one family.
Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi gives an example, which I have heard
many times from my Sheikh (Damat Barakatuhum).
A small little ant climbs a grape vine. When it finally reaches the
top, it starts eating the leaves of the grape-vine, holes are also
made in the leaves and it lives on the leaves for a long time. If it had
a Sheikh to guide it, he would have told it, “You made such a great
effort getting up to the top but you are living off these leaves. If you
make a little more effort and move one centimetre higher you will
get the grapes and with just one drop of the grape juice, your
SubhanAllah would have come out from the bottom of your heart!”
Page 84
Similarly, we have made a great effort in becoming Ulama, we
studied Takhti (basic primer for learning the Arabic letters), then
we studied Qaidah, then Naazarah (reading of Quraan Sharîf),
then the whole Quraan Sharif, then Hifz, then all the stages of the
Aalim course, Sarf, Nahwa, Lughat, Adab, Usul of the various
sciences, Quraan, Hadith, Tarjumuah, Tafsir, etc. all of this is
reaching the leaves.
When we start serving Deen, Imaamat, Dars, Khitaabat, etc. we
will be living on the leaves. If we just go one step higher and get
the Ma'rifat and love of Allah , then our SubhanAllah will also
come out from the bottom of our hearts. For now, we will get the
sweetness of Imaan and consequently the sweetness of Ibaadah,
Mu'asharat and everything else!
ALLAMAH KHALID KURDI
Allamah Khalid Kurdi was a great Aalim of Kurdistaan, he lived
in Shaam (Syria). He was a great Aalim and Mufti of his time, a
Khatib, Imaam, Mudarris (lecturer). He felt the need to be
connected to his Creator Allah and for this purpose, he set out
on the journey of Hajj, as there were great Awliya in Makkah
Sharif and Madina Sharif, from whom he could gain this great
treasure of the sweetness of being connected to Allah , the
Most Sweetest, the Most Beautiful, the Creator of all beauty and
sweetness.
He first went to Madinatul Munawwarah where he sat in the Dars
and Majalis of great Awliya but his heart did not connect to any
one of them. One day, in a lesson, he heard the lecturer saying,
“Very fortunate is the person whom Allah blessed with Ilm
(knowledge), the Khidmat of Ilm (spreading knowledge) and
Page 85
Deen, with good Akhlaaq (character), etc. and who is connected to
Allah . His ears pricked up and he thought to himself that this is
what I am looking for. After taking permission, he explained to
the people attending the gathering that he had been blessed by
Allah with the qualities mentioned and he was seeking his
connection with Allah , so they should please make Dua for him
that Allah blesses him with this. He continued his stay in
Madinah Sharif until his time of departure to Makkah Sharif drew
close.
There was a Buzurg with whom he sat very often. He asked him
for some advice before his departure. He advised him, “When you
go to the Haram of Makkah Sharif, do not object to anyone even
in your heart, no matter what condition you see them in.” Allah
's Shaan, the first person his eyes fell upon, on entering the
Haram, was an old man leaning with his back against the Ka’bah
Sharif with his legs stretched out.
Immediately he thought to himself, “What disrespect of the
Ka’bah?” The old man was a Buzurg, he called him and asked him,
“What advice did the Buzurg give you in Madinah Sharif?” He got
a shock and stretched his hands out to him, asking him to make
him Bay'at! He told him, “Your share (of Islaah and connection to
Allah ) is in India! He was a Taalib-e-Saadiq (a genuine seeker
for the truth). Immediately after Hajj, he proceeded to India
seeking his heart's desire.
INCIDENTS OF TOLERANCE OF OUR PIOUS
PREDECESSORS
Finally he found it in Delhi in the Khanqah of Hadhrat Shah
Ghulam Rasul Saheb, the Khalifah of Hadhrat Mirza Jane-Jana
of the Naqshabandi Silsila (chain).
Page 86
A mention of a few short instances of Hadhrat Mirza Jane-Jana .
When he used to do his shopping, a grocer used to mock him,
saying,
“My goat's beard is better than your beard.” He always kept silent.
After his demise, his Janazah passed by the same grocer. By way of
Karamat (miraculously), Allah made him speak and he told the
grocer, “Today I can tell you my beard is better than your goats
beard.” He always feared that if he died without Imaan, then the
goats beard would be better than his, but now that he died with
Imaan, his beard was better.
Another incident! After he passed away, a note was found in his
Kitab:
رمزا رم ےئگ الص ا ں رمزا رھگےئگ سب ےتہکںیہ
All are saying Mirza has died, actually Mirza is only gone home!
A third incident. Mirza Saheb was a very temperamental
person, very particular. If one stitch in his Topi was crooked he
would get a headache, if one stitch in his eiderdown would be
crooked, he would not be able to sleep. Once on his way to the
masjid, he saw a Charpaai (bed) lying crooked on the footpath, he
returned home with a severe headache! This quality was disliked
by Allah , to correct this, Allah inspired him and told him,
“If you marry a certain woman of your neighbourhood, who has a
very sharp tongue and even more temperamental than you and you
tolerate her, I will make you famous in the world!”
Look at us, today after so long and in such a place, we are
remembering him and being inspired by him! Let us learn a
Page 87
lesson from here to tolerate our wives and be soft and kind to
them.
To digress a little with regard to tolerating our wives.
Hadhrat Shah Ahmed Rifa’i, once when he was making
Ziyaarat, he made Salaam to Rasulullah . Rasulullah replied to
his Salaam and many people heard the reply. He then said, “O
Rasulullah , stretch your hand out.” He was blessed with a great
miracle and Rasulullah ’s hand came out to greet him. At that
time there were between 7,000 and 9000 people who witnessed
this.
Once a Pathan came to visit Shah Ahmed Rifa’i, he found the
Majlis was over and all were resting. He went straight into the
private home of Shah Saheb and saw his wife pinching and hitting
him with a tong, demanding her Mehar (dowry) money and a
divorce.
The Pathan became extremely angry and woke the mureeds up,
telling them, “How can you people sleep whilst the Sheikh is
going through all this.” They replied, “This is nothing new, it is a
daily occurrence.” And they went back to sleep. Still angry, he
went to the bazaar and made a collection for the Sheikh's Mehar
so that he could be free of his wife. He came to the Sheikh after
Asr and presented it to him.
The Sheikh told him,
“You foolish person, don't you know that it is by tolerating her that
Allah gave me such honour that the hand of Nabi came out to
greet me!”
Page 88
We will mention another incident because many young Ulama
have terrible, violent, uncontrollable tempers, resulting in many
marriage problems. A person travelled from Khurasaan to
Kharqaan to become Bay'at to Shah Abul Hasan Kharqani. It
was a very long journey.
On knocking at the Sheikh's door, his wife inquired the purpose
of his coming. He said, “To become Bay'at, as I have heard of his
piety.” She retorted, “What piety? Ask me, I live with him, how he
carries on and treats me!” He became very despondent. The
neighbours saw what had happened and told him not to be
despondent, since her temperament was like that.
They instructed him to go to a certain jungle and he would find
the Sheikh there. On reaching there, what does he see? The
Sheikh is bringing firewood for the house, a lion is his
conveyance and a snake is his whip to control the lion.
The Sheikh sees the person from a distance and says to him, “It
looks like you went to my house and heard a lot of negative
things about me from my wife. This Karamat (miracle) you see
bestowed on me, riding a lion and controlling it with a snake, is
all on account of tolerance of my wife!”
It is a unanimous Mas'ala of the Awliya that a person who keeps
his wife happy, despite having Deeni weaknesses, is a Wali of
Allah .
Anyway we were discussing Shah Khalid Kurdi who had taken
Bay'at to Shah Ghulam Rasul. His Sheikh instructed him to stay
with him for forty days. This incident was during the era of
Hadhrat Shah Abdul Aziz, the illustrious son of the illustrious
Page 89
father Hadhrat Shah Waliyullah, the famous Muhaddith of
Delhi. When Shah Abdul Aziz, heard that a great Arab Aalim has
come to India for Islaah-e-nafs, he wanted to meet him. When he
sent the message to him, he replied, “I am busy doing my course
of Islaah-e-nafs for forty days and I cannot interfere with my
programme but you are a great Aalim and I also desire to meet
you. Therefore I will come personally to meet you after I have
completed my forty days, please do not take the trouble to come
to me.”
Anyway after completing his forty days and attaining his
connection with Allah , he returned home. Many great scholars
were Bay’at to him, Allamah Sayed Mahmud Alusi, the author
of the Tafsir Ruhul Ma'ani, the greatest Arabic Tafsir of the
Quraan Sharif in thirty volumes and the Mufti of Baghdad,
became Bay'at to him and what great work Allah took from
him. Also, Allamah ibn Abi Deen Shami , the compiler of Fatawa
Shamia became Bay'at to him and Allah took very great work
from him also.
IMPORTANCE OF SUHBAT
In Fadhâil-e-Zikr of Hadhrat Sheikh Maulana Muhammad
Zakariyya Saheb, he narrates a similar incident of a great Aalim,
who was a Mufti, Khatib, Waiz, Imaam, etc. and he felt the need,
on his own, to be connected to Allah and for this purpose he
approached the Buzurg of his town. The Buzurg said, “No
problem, stay with me for forty days and I will connect you with
Allah , the only condition is that you must do as I tell you.”
He agreed. He told him to give up all his activities and only make
the Zikr of Allah in the Khanqah and he obliged. The people of
Page 90
the town became very upset and made a big hue and cry about it,
that he has been stopped from Deeni work, which the people
were benefitting from. He was sincere, and wanted connection
with Allah . After some time the Buzurg found out that he was
making Tilaawat of Quraan Sharif, he stopped him from this too.
This caused more criticism and comments from the people! They
said that the Sheikh is a Zindiq (a kafir), etc. But this great Aalim
was sincere and carried on as instructed. After completing his
forty days, on making his first Bayaan, every person became a
Wali of Allah and got Nisbat (connection) with Allah in one
sitting. SubhanAllah! This is the result of Suhbat (company) of the
Awliya.
Our Sheikh (Damat Barakatuhum) says a beautiful poem with
regard to this:

The Tongue of Love
The doors of the secrets of Shariat open, when the tongue of love speaks
Intelligence is astonished by that tongue that speaks from the heart Meanings which became apparent by words cannot reach the
hidden love Language tells you meanings, love tells you the story of the heart!
Where will you find in Sadra and Bazegha, love that is concealed in the crevices of the heart?
But where will you find this treasure? Should I tell you where you will find it?
It is found by the lovers of Allah, by their Duas and their company That King of the two worlds, in whose heart He comes he gets enjoyment greater than that of the two worlds
O friends, He who is the creator of sugar, the beauty of the sun and the light of the moon!
Do not ask what is the sweetness of the Zikr of Allah? The sweetness of the name of that Pure Great Being
From where is the unlimited love, what relationship has a speck of dust got with the heavens?
This treasure of the love of the heart Akhtar, fortunate is the one who has been bestowed with it!
So my dear friends, Imam Bukhaari is turning our attention to
the greatness of making our Islaah, by connecting to a Sheikh-e-
Tariqat and making the Zikr of Allah under his supervision.
Page 92
Then see what great enjoyment you will get in Deen and what
great work Allah will take from you and how the Ummah's
condition will improve!
FIVE IMPORTANT DUAS
We will end with five Duas, which I have learnt from our Buzurgs
and by their Faidh (blessings). My advice to the students is to try
and read these Duas at the end of every action. The first Dua is:
رب نا ت قبل منا إنك أنت السميع العليم وت ب علينا انك انت الت واب الرحيم
O our Rabb, accept from us. You are the All Hearing, the All
Knowing and forgive us, Verily You are the most pardoning, Most
Merciful.
Our Sheikh (Damat Barakatuhum) explains that Allamah Alusi
in Ruhul Ma'ani explains that 'Taqabbal' is from the Baab of تفاعل which has a special meaning of 'Takalluf', which means that this
action though it is not worthy of acceptance but in Your kindness
accept it (i.e. make Takalluf and accept it) and forgive us for any
and all our shortcomings and not fulfilling the rights of Your
Honour and Greatness.
The second Dua is,
ما شاء هللا ال قوة اال ابهللMaulana Idris Kandhelwi writes in Ma'ariful Quraan that the
one who reads this Dua on any of his Ne'mats, that Ne'mat will
not be taken away from him.
Page 93
The third Dua is:
احلمد هللا الذى بنعمته تتم الصاحلاتAll praise is due to Allah, by Whose bounty good things are
completed.
By reading this Dua, no matter how great the act accomplished
may be and the whole world can praise one but pride will not
come into one, as one acknowledges that it was only possible by
the help and Taufiq (assistance) of Allah .
The fourth Dua is the Dua of Kaffarah (expiation) of a majlis:
سبحان هللا وحبمده سبحانك اللهم وحبمدك نشهد اال اله اال انت نستغفرك ونتوب اليك
Glory be to Allah and all praise is for You, You are most pure and all praise belongs to You. We bear witness that there is no one
besides You (to be worshipped), we beg Your forgiveness and we promise to stay away from Your disobedience.
By reading this Dua, all errors and omissions in that action will
be removed and a seal will be put on that A’mal, which only you
will open on the day of Qiyamah. This A’mal will not be given
away to anyone (in the case of paying other people their rights
and you have fallen short of good deeds).
Page 94
And the fifth Dua is,
س بحان ربك رب العزة عما يصف ون
وسالمن على الم رسلي
واحلمد لل رب العالمي
Your Lord, the Rabb of all Honour is pure from (all wrong) they
ascribed to Him and peace on all the messengers and all praise is
due solely to Allah.
By reading this Dua, no matter how small an A’mal may be, it will
be made so weighty that a very big scale will have to be brought
to measure it on the day of Qiyamah.
May Allah grant us the ability to practise! Ameen!
