and likes to take care of his Jeep by reading car magazines and learning from them.

Page 5: Title

Unsatisfactory Truth-Seeking Stopped going to church about a year ago

because he did not enjoy going to church and does not go to church because he doesn’t agree with the Catholic Church’s views on certain things. He has no impetus to investigate the truth.

Page 6: Title

Ambiguity

Ambiguity: “I am not very religious myself” Does he believe in God or does he not

believe in God. Contextualizing would help clarify his

religious beliefs because he would give more information about his beliefs.

Page 7: Title

Vagueness

Vagueness: “I like relaxing at people’s houses and just messing around with each other”

We have no idea what he actually does at other people’s homes. By clarifying intent and defining what he means by “messing around with each other” would evoke a clear understanding of what he does.

Emotional Appeals

Just Plain Folks “An upside to working at a bagel shop is

getting to eat the bagels that I want but the downside is the weight I would gain from eating.”

He is like an ordinary person who is worried bout their weight but still indulges in bagels.

Page 10: Title

Transfer “I also like books and movies because I have

been slowly building up my library.” Because he likes books, he must be an

cogent, intelligent, and sophisticated person.

Habits of Mind

Very Confident in Reasoning “When you go to a social function, do you

wear a paper bag over your head? Then why do you think you can do it here? POST A PHOTO.”

She is confident in her analogy that it would make sense to post a photo so that she can see what you look like.

Page 14: Title

Very inquisitive “I like taking classes at my local community

college just to learn about things that I’m interested in”

She goes out of her way to become informed in her areas of interest.

Page 15: Title

Ambiguity

Ambiguity: “I don’t need a “daddy” or someone to take care of me. Just someone to share in this absurd situation we call life.”

Would “sharing” involve sharing of the problems in life, too? Wouldn’t that mean to help each other out financially if we have financial problems?

Stipulating what she means by “sharing” would clarify what would be shared.

Page 16: Title

Vagueness

Vagueness: “I am attracted to intelligence in a male, books, watching a sunrise or a sunset, solving a problem…”

We have no idea what she means by solving a problem. If she would stipulate what a “problem” means for her, then we’d understand what she is attracted to.

Emotional Appeals

Just Plain Folks “I don’t need “walks on the beach” or “wine-

tasting in front of a fireplace.” Just a real person who is honest, open to new ideas.

She is trying to tout the image of an average woman who is does not have overly exaggerated romantic fantasies.

Page 19: Title

Ridicule When you go to a social function, do you

wear a paper bag over your head? Then why do you think you can do it here?

She makes fun of the people who send winks and smiles and do not display their own private information by making them seem like creeps who would wear paper bags over their heads at a social event.

They are a great match because:

There is no ambiguity in their appreciation of cars. He loves his Jeep and she loves her British cars. They are both car lovers.

They both posses an inquisitive habit of mind. They both used Just Plain Folks emotional

appeal to try to seem like an average person.
