Location: Alveoli of lungs. Lining of blood and lymphatic muscle (called endothelium, classification as connective tissue by some histologists). Surface layer of pleura, pericardium, peritoneum (called mesothelium; classified as connective tissue by some histologists

Function: Absorption by diffusion of respiratory gases between alveolar air and blood. Absorption by diffusion, filtration, osmosis. Absorption by diffusion and osmosis; also secretion.

Location: surface of mucous membrane lining mouth, esophagus, and vagina. Surface of skin.

Function: protection

Page 4: Tissues artifact

Surface of mucous membrane lining uriniarybladder and ureters

Function: protection and permits stretching.

Page 5: Tissues artifact

Location: surface layer of mucous lining of stomach, intestines, and part of respiratory tract.

Protection; secretion; absorption; moving of mucus (by a ciliated columnar epithelium epithelium)

Page 6: Tissues artifact

Location: lining of portions of the male urethra; mucous membrane near anus (rare)

Function: protection

Page 7: Tissues artifact

Surface of mucous membrane lining trachea, large bronchi, nasal mucosa, and parts of male reproductive tract (epididymis and vas deferens); lines large ducts of some glands.(e.g., parotid)

Page 8: Tissues artifact

Location: Ducts and tubules of many organs, including exocrine glands and kidneys

Function: secretion; absorbtion

Page 9: Tissues artifact

Location: ducts of sweat glands; lining of pharynx; covering potion of epiglottis

Function: protection

-loose, ordinary (areolar)

Location: between other tissues and organs

Function: connection and protection

Page 12: Tissues artifact

Location: under skin, padding at various points

Function: insulation, support and reserve food

Page 13: Tissues artifact

Location: inner framework of spleen, lymph nodes, bone marrow and filtration

Function: support

Page 14: Tissues artifact

Location: tendons, ligaments, aponeuroses

Function: flexible but strong connection, connection, support

Location: Deep fascia, dermis, scars, capsules of kidney, etc.

Function: Connection, support

Page 16: Tissues artifact

Location: Skeleton

Function: support, protection, calcium reservoir

Page 17: Tissues artifact

Location: Part of nasal septum, covering articular surfaces of bones, larynx, rings in trachea and bronchi

Function: Firm but flexible support

Page 18: Tissues artifact

Location: Disks between vertebrae, symphysispubis

Location: External ear, Eustachian tube

Page 20: Tissues artifact

Location: In the blood vessels

Function: Transportation, Protection

-Skeletal

Location: muscles that attach to the bones, extrinsic eyeball muscles, upper third of esophagus

Function: Movement of bones, eye movements, first part of swallowing

Page 22: Tissues artifact

Location: in walls of tubular viscera of digestive, respiratory, and genitourinary tracts, in walls of blood vessels and large lymphatic vessels, in ducts of glands, intrinsic eye muscles (iris and ciliary body) arrector muscles of hairs

Function: movement of substances along respective tracts, change diameter of blood vessels, thereby aiding in regulation of blood pressure, movement of substances along ducts, change diameter of pupils and shape of lens, erection of hairs (gooseflesh)

Location: Wall of heart

Function: Contraction of heart
