TIPS FOR RESEARCHING - IDC4U

RESEARCH TIPS!!!! 1. KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO RESEARCH! If you are deba,ng between 2 celebri,es to research for your project, briefly research them both for 5=10 minutes each. Once you know a bit about each, it will be easier to determine who you really want to research. ADer you figure out WHO, it is important to specify research to WHAT you’re looking for. If you’re researching one’s past, “Tom Cruise’s childhood” will bring up more relevant informa,on than just googling “Tom Cruise”. 2. ASK FOR HELP! Centennial’s librarian is very helpful when it comes to finding websites or books to gather research from. Your teacher and peer tutor will be glad to help you too! 3. SCHEDULE! Research is easy to do when you plan out what you want to do and when. Today, you should find at least 2 website sources, jot down notes from them, and CITE those websites. (hint: a good website to research Canadian astronauts like Chris Hadfield is hSp://www.asc=csa.gc.ca = Canadian Space Agency) 4. REMOVE DISTRACTIONS! If you’re siWng beside someone you know will distract you, move a seat or two down. If class noise is distrac,ng you, listen to music or ask to go to another nearby computer lab. 5. DON’T STRESS, STAY CALM! If you are stressed out from researching or feel like you’ll never get it done, take a walk and clear your mind. You can get this done and you will get this done. 6. TYPE YOUR INFO! It is a lot faster to jot down notes and cita, ons in a computer’s Word Document or www.drive.dsbn.org than on paper. Make use of your resources. Save documents every 5 minutes and ,tle them appropriately. IDC4U - B. Bell

EasyBib will auto-fill information for you, click continue to fill out the missing information (“source didn’t give us”)4. Look back at the original website to find out the Article Title, Author and Published Date (at very top or end of article)5. Fill out what you can find. It’s okay if there are some fields missing.6. Click Create Citation Below7. Copy+Paste your new citation in a Word Document to hand in to the teacher.

Sometimes a website will include a citation for you at the end of the page. Make sure it is in MLA Style. Just copy+paste that! Easy!
